Review: The Dirtybird US team have pulled together a serious sizzler with this one as they invite the sumptuous sounds of Hugo Massien inside for a four track bubbler, kicking off with the spacey pad textures and lofi-style drum techniques of 'Fast Forward, which through its alienistic timbre delivers glittering introduction. From here, the beautiful chord progressions and padded backdrops of 'Dynamic Symmetry' combine beautifully with some warbling sub textures below for a very enjoyable creation, followed swiftly by the more acidic sounding moog sweeps of 'Quantum Mechanics' for a bit of a switch up. Finally, the stuttering synthetic designs of 'Astral Waves' gives us a smooth finale, rounding off a very impressive collection indeed!

Review: Following a run of label-busting releases from the likes of Xantrax, Data Room and Squallfront, the Ecke label out of Berlin continue to reinvent their wholly undeniable sound that comes from somewhere between bass, dub, jungle, house and drum and bass. This particular compilation pools together a unique collection of artists that sees peeps like FoxMind throw down a flurry of side-widing percussion and bass next to Lawrence Lee's hi-tech club track, "Genetically Enhanced". For something a little more tropical, chilled out and streamlined don't sleep on Inner Zone's synth house session "Wave Trip" next to the turned-out trance elements in DJ Agency's "Excessive Rider". For the experimental bass heads there's DJ Draai's "Full Swing (Lylat Dub)" and Barking's ghoulish "Soft Delete" next to some slo-mo warehouse acid by Hugo Massien and some dope outsider house by Peter Fonda, "Don't Slip".

Review: Massien has put out material on labels like XL and Tectonic and now brings his street sounds to Dance Trax. "Twist & Turn" is inspired by old-school, breaking electro, with Massien dropping warbling synths over rolling 808s and powerful bass stabs, while on "Lust & Sound", he drops a niggling acid-led breaker. Electro producer of the moment Jensen Interceptor introduces a more clubby feel to the release, which is thanks to an ominous bass on his remix, while there are two tracks featuring DJ Haus; "Hypnotik Rhythm Sequence" is a bleak, steely breaker and "Random Access Memory" is an acid-laced, tone-shifting affair - both marking Massien out as a formidable artist.

Review: Hot on the heels of his Tectonic EP, Berlin-based Brit Hugo continues on his expedition into more broken territories with five fractured forays on E-Beamz. "Where Your Body Begins" sets the tone with menacing bass tones blasting beneath slow jungle rolls before being countered by the Bicep-flexing drifter "The Only Constant Is Change". Deeper again; "Alien Shapes" is the teeth grinder of the set with its rasping, rising venomous acid and brittle breaks, "Circles" re-soothes our soul with a rippling beatless floatation sensation and "Faith In Chaos" throws us in a big bubbly bath of acid for a final hoorah. Review: Current scene darling Hugo Massien is up next on Pinch's esteemed Tectonic imprint. The Berlin by away of Bristol DJ/producer is the rising star most commonly associated with the 'deep tech sound' with releases on hot imprints previously such as XL, E-Beamz and 17 Steps. Indeed the Advanced Aerial Threat EP features yet more modern rave perspectives, that are drenched in evocative and dramatic aesthetics. From the bittersweet post jungle deconstruction of "Ursa Minor", some artificial intelligence on the sleek electro of "Candy Flip" that would make even Gerald Hanson or Carl Finlow stand up and notice, while the fierce breakbeat drama of "Divisions From The Start" flaunt Massien's fine knack for rhythm.

Review: Current darling of the scene Hugo Massien returns on E Beamz for his second offering on the hot British label, following up last years wicked No Return EP. The Bristol based artist serves up more deep, darkside tech on Almost Becoming Lucid, however the title track features some jungle style breaks to build the mood. "Chemically Minded" is more like the artist we know on this slinky and tunnelling journey into the late night. Massien proves he's certainly capable of heads down and hypnotic minimal techno, like on "Do's Final Exit" or "Andromeda Signal" - the latter incorporating deep house aesthetics atop seamlessly and proving that he's still on a roll. We agree with the critics: he's very much the future of UK house music.

Review: Up next for Defected's In The House series is the UK's DJ Haus, 'a decidedly untraditional DJ, producer, originator and DIY label innovator.' The Unknown To The Unknown and Hot Haus Recs boss has received big props from the underground house community and in Defected's opinion: he's an ambassador for the future of house music. Quite a compliment there! Serving up a a wicked collection of raw and jacking sounds that encompass electro, Chicago house, disco, techno and UK garage: and all very much on the lo-fi tip. The supporting cast on DJ Haus In The Haus is quite a remarkable one and musical highlights are not limited to: NYC hero X-Coast (who is fresh off a killer release on Underthesea) with last year's sleeper hit "Mango Bay", Aussie larrikin and Steel City Dance Discs boss Mall Grab with the wicked "Pool Party" through to stateside jams by Justin Cudmore - who gives us a taste of the acid life on "Forget It" and so does the master Matrixxman on the epic "The Spell" (Original Mix).
