Diamonds In The Night Vol 3
Hyboid - "Italians & Spacemen" - (4:46) 116 BPM Hot
Discobeton - "Discobeton I" - (7:46) 120 BPM
Daniel Monaco & Futuristant - "Summer '96" - (5:31) 118 BPM
Captain Mustache - "Red Light Disco" - (4:34) 120 BPM
Review: The fact that the first track here is entitled 'Italians & Spacemen' should give you a pretty good idea what to expect from the rest of the EP: we're esconced firmly in Italo territory here, with Moroder-like basslines, Carpenter-esque sci-fi synths and analogue drum machine beats very much in evidence throughout. Look to Hyboid and Discobeton if it's faithful pastiche of the original early 80s Italo sound you're after, Daniel Monaco & Futuristant for a more late 80s-ish update or Captain Mustache if you want to be dragged into the present with hints of techno, footwork and electro.

Review: Sebastian H?bert aka Hyboid delivers another wonderfully out there album's worth synth and electro tracks. The pulsating groove of "Starcrush" comes across like a new age version of Legowelt, while the title track is a cosmic-sounding piece of electro pop. H?bert clearly spends a lot of his time star-gazing because the album also contains wonderfully cosmic pieces like "Crystal of the Ancients" and the sci-fi sound track of "Future Fever". While some tracks on Strange Signals veer into electronic easy listening, H?bert's slick production and knack of writing memorable melodies - check "Walking the Milky Way" if you're in any doubt - make this a delightfully spaced out journey.

Review: Sebastian Hubert's Hyboid project continues to deliver high-tech waves of contemporary electro, and there's no stopping him or his insatiable Astro Chicken imprint. "UFOs Over Berlin", a sight all too often seen by the city's residents, starts off with a harsh artillery of beats and a fast, 80s sort of tempo that verges into coldwave; "Torture By Popcorn" sounds like an early 2000's Euro house anthem stripped down to its bare bones, and "Rocket Science" goes for a more sombre, synth-heavy approach for the more introspective listeners out there. The virtual B-side starts with the sinister yet seductive synth harmonics of the glitchy "Ambush At Treptower Park", "A Fistful Of Tribbles" sounds like a boogie reinterpretation of some cold, 90s electro madness, and "Randezvous With An Invader" takes inspiration from the Kraftwerk school of thought, transporting the listener with a quirky selection of synth waves.
