Review: Happy eighth birthday to Hot Digits, who are celebrating their anniversary with this superb collection of contemporary disco, funk and boogie slammers. With a whopping 30 tracks to choose from there's obviously no room here to go into them all one-by-one, but with cuts ranging from the smooth jazz-funk of 'George's Groove' to the unabashed filter disco euphoria of 'Cuz I'm Naked', and from the fat-ass slap bass of 'We're Gettin' In' to cheeky Loleatta-referencing disco-houser 'Dub Sensation', there's evidence a-plenty here, should any be required, that Hot Digits do this kind of tackle better than most.

Review: Unlike many of its rivals, Fingerman's Hot Digits label doesn't fill its' obligatory annual compilation with back catalogue cuts. Instead, we're offered a vast number of previously unheard re-edits, remixes and original productions. It's a successful blueprint and one religiously adhered to on Hot Digits: Year Seven, the popular imprint's latest must-check collection. There's not enough room to single out every sonic highlight, but our current favourites include the breezy boogie squelch of Ross Fitz's 'I Miss Your Love ('85 Mix)', the driving deep house haziness of Fingerman and Henri Le Blanc's 'Leave Your Cares Tonight', the neo-trance cheeriness of Picklejam's 'Endorphin Situation' and the stab-happy, peak-time house retro-futurism of 'The Feeling' by Downunder Disco.

Review: Having recently notched up a sixth year in business, Fingerman's Hot Digits imprint is in a celebratory mood - hence this all-action round-up of recent delights and unheard treats from the disco-loving label. Encompassing no less than 30 tunes, the collection giddily skips between warming beatdown disco (P-Sol's "Walter"), Mark E style slo-mo loop jams (Vigi's "I'll Be There") and glassy-eyed Balearic nu-disco (Picklejam's "Untitled Love"), before raising its hands skywards as the peak-time party-starters begin to appear thick and fast. Highights in this category include the vibrant jazz-house flex of Dexter Jones' "Swing Thing", the bustling boogie re-edit business of Monsieur Von Pratt's "Let's Dance" and the hearty disco-funk heaviness of Chewy Rubs' "Funky Bee Bop".

Review: ISM's tenth anniversary celebrations tend towards the epic, with the Yam Who-helmed label serving up a series of bulging retrospective compilations stacked to the rafters with imprint highlights, dancefloor hits and overlooked gems. This second selection boasts 24 more tried-and-tested ISM classics, from the rubbery disco-funk bounce of Birdee's "Chemistry" and the synth-laden electrofunk revivalism of Qwestlife's D-Train style revision of "Streetlife" by Natasha Watts, to the spiraling Balearic disco throb of Pete Herbert's killer remix of Gemini Brothers' "Jeckermich" and the piano-powered nu-disco-soul of Rocco Raimundo's "Higher Lovin", featuring the smooth vocals of Stee Downes. Review: London disco house imprint ISN presents us with a compilation showcasing recent graduates of their Class of '16. All the usual suspects are here; and they all pass, with honours! Hosting the ceremony is none other than Yam? Who, compiling the release tremendously with some surefire dancefloor fodder to make it one year to remember, and boy do they ever! There's the sweet boogie down vibes of The Hinge Project's "Brand New Day" and Freekwency's "Something Else On Your Mind" right through to the Italo favoured vibe of Ichisan's "Bela Libujanja" and not to mention sweet nu disco ditties by Joey Dice ("Puzzling Me") and Richard Seaborne ("U Said U Loved Me") showcasing the labels various moods and grooves in impressive fashion.

Review: The best thing about spring is all the new stuff starts to arrive. Editorial have taken this idea quite literately and have rounded up a whole bunch of fresh new faces and tunes. There are nine fine jams contained on Spring Thing comp, some of the (many) highlights include the sweet and tender boogie-pop of "Good 4 You" by the artfully-punned Serge Gamesbourg, the throbbing bass loops of the sublime "Closer & Closer" and the mesmerising fusion of punk-funk bass and sunshine keyboard melodies on "Brighter" by Dagfest.

Review: Hold tight for more boozy dancefloor excess from the Editorial crew, a collective of re-editors whose musical output is always worth a listen. The seven-track missive begins with a chunk of electric piano-laden samba/jazz-funk magic courtesy of Nik M, before sometime Hot Digits and Midnight Riot man Frank Virgillio offers a more piano and percussion-laden chunk of sun-kissed Brazilian magic. Labor of Love gets the disco juices flowing via the cowbell-heavy shuffle of disco funker "Like I Do", The Funk District reach for the Clavinets on hazy roller "Baby Got It" and I Gemin smothers a tasty groove in liquid synths and deep house flourishes on "Oh Baby". To round things off, C Da Afro rearranges a warm and groovy electrofunk jam and Rica lays down some colourful nu-disco deepness.

Review: Dobro is a house and disco edits label run by Belarusian DJ/producer Iner out of St Petersburg. For its fifth release, it's another various artists affair featuring a whopping six tracks with appearances from I Gemin on the dusty, boompty and off-kilter 'I Like 2 Party', Paul Rudder & OUI go ultra deep in the tradition of the Three Chairs sound on the emotive 'In The Sky For Our Love', while Bendrik serves up the mandatory late night mood music vibes on 'Chat House' and Swales provides the banger on the funky and tough rolling 'Blue Skies'.

Review: The latest missive from the Editorial camp is something of a summery treat, with a sextet of producers taking it turns to lay down warm and inviting dancefloor treats, First up is Matt Hughes, whose "Lonestar" joins the dots between eyes-closed deep house and rich, bass-heavy Balearic disco. Hotmood lays down a chunk of horn-heavy, party-hearty disco house, while Massimo Vanoni marinades a sweet, sun-kissed disco cut in several gallons of tasty rum punch. Elsewhere, Sunner Soul works the filters hard on the low-slung disco house shuffler "Good Parts", I Gemin gets all sweaty and loopy on "Disco Fevah", and Andy Buchan does a great job reinventing an 80s synth-pop cut as a saucer-eyed slab of peak-time goodness.

Review: Slothboogie's latest series, 'Remixing With Friends', was founded on the simplest of ideas, namely to get artists they admire to rework tracks from the label's growing catalogue. The series' debut offering is suitably strong from start to finish. Scottish slow-house veteran The Revenge delivers a pleasingly crunchy spacey and hypnotic rework of DJ Akmael's 'Strobe', before Joe Cleen re-imagines Subjoi's 'What You Do' as a deep and sensuous two-step garage workout with added sexy organ stabs and solos. International Dateline then delivers a tweak of Jesse Bru's 'Yellow Sunshine Machine' that sits somewhere between Metro Area and sparse analogue house, while Jason Hodges turns I Germin's 'Green Light' into a woozy-but-bumpin' disco-house loop jam. Best of all though is Chrissy's energetic, TB-303-propelled, breakbeat-sporting re-wire of Jesse Bru and Max Ullis's 'Big Chirp'.

Review: Yam Who's ISM imprint has been in fine form of late, delivering excellent EPs from Alena, Bubblegum, The Drive and Ilija Rudman. Here that run continues, as the veteran producer unleashes an impressive debut album from I Gemin, AKA newcomer Mike Popov. There's much to admire from the off, with "Can't Nobody" offering a deliciously loose and jazzy fusion of pulsating garage bass, two-step influenced beats, lilting deep house chords and evocative vocal samples. Elsewhere, he delivers some Floating Points-esque deep house lusciousness (the superb, boogie-influenced "Private Life") and - best of all - a carnival-friendly chunk of woozy, horn-laden, 21st century dancefloor soul ("Next 2 Me"). Yam Who and Leebo Freeman deliver killer remixes, with the latter's dub-flecked deep house take on "Next 2 Me" standing out.

Review: Not content with presenting us with the action-packed Gold Grooves compilation, the ever-generous Editorial are back with another meaty compilation. There are five new cuts to get to grips with here - Matt Hughes's luxurious tight-funk bass anthem "Solar Boogie", the lazy, lapping ocean beach disco of "Any Damn Time" by Danny Deluxe and the chuggin locomotive rhythms of I Gemin's "How Could It". Elsewhere Jay Airiness brings some Italo-space disco to the table with "Sunshine Grooves and "Public Transit" is slick cocktail-house at its finest.

Review: Scruscru's Scruniversal take a left turn into jazzier pastures than normal with this four-track EP from I Gemin, AKA Russian producer Mike Popov. The EP opens with the languid, cinematic instrumental 'Introfall (Autumn)', before moving into out-and-out jazz territory with the flute-laden 'Ninjazz Bit'. Funk and soul flavas then inform 'Dry My Tears' with its wukka-wukking geetars and (presumably sampled) gospel-like vocal, before '2Gether We Funk' plays us out in more "traditional" funk mode, with brass fanfares galore and a distinct car chase feel. Musically speaking 'Ninjazz Bit' is arguably the most impressive, polished piece here but it's '2Gether We Funk' that'll get those booties shakin'!

Review: Russian veteran Mike Popov AKA I Gemin comes to Iner's St Petersburg-based DOBRO label with four deep house jams that'll serve you equally well for post-club chillin' or for keeping 'em moving through till sun-up. 'Afterlife' centres around a looping guitar hook, rolling drums and treated soulful vocal snatches, while there are more treated vox on the similarly styled 'Tears I've Cried'. You then get two quite different mixes of 'The Time Is Right' itself to choose from: the Original's a gloriously moody, jazzy slo-mo funker, before Berlin's Siggatunez drags it onto the dancefloor with tuff, driving beats and heady synth washes.

Review: Some very fine contemporary disco and funk grooves to be found on this latest EP from Russian producer I Gemin, which is brought to you by Hot Digits Music. 'Fun For Me' itself, in its original form, is an unhurried, lolloping groove that, with its chanted vox and in-your-face horns, could pass itself off in certain lights as a long lost Brass Construction track, while Fingerman's rework tones down the brass a little and brings the bass forward. There's more chanting on the Afro-tinged 'Oh Eh Oh Eh', alongside some squalling rock guitars, while finally 'Over & Over' is a dense, loopy lil' shuffler that's really more of a DJ tool.

Review: Having previously delivered largely overlooked - but rather good - releases on Moiss Music and Closer To Truth, Mike Popov brings his I Gemin project to SlothBoogie for the very first time. The long-serving producer begins in fine fashion with 'Green Light', a warming chunk of Azymouth-influenced deep house/jazz-house fusion built around layered, loose-limbed carnival drums, before craftily combining jazz-funk instrumentation and head-nodding hip-hop beats on 'Interlude 74'. Popov returns to the dancefloor with the sample-house-goes-broken house brilliance of 'Into The Sun' - all simmering sampled strings, warming Blaxploitation soundtrack instrumentation, dub delays and layered percussion - before once again flexing his downtempo muscles on the blazed, DJ Cam style haziness of 'Yaju'.

Review: For the latest release on his Scruniversal label, ScruScru has turned to friend and fellow Russian deep house and nu-disco producer I Gemin. The sometime SlothBoogie contributor has delivered a tidy and tasteful three-tracker just oozing with class. Check first 'Astrafunk',a warming 188 BPM loop jam that peppers a rolling, jazz-flecked house beat with boogie bass, kaleidoscopic synth doodles, warming chords and spacey motifs, before admiring the early St Germain style jazz-house classiness of 'Make It Real'. To round off a rock-solid EP, he lays down a suitably trippy, woozy and surprisingly loose-limbed chunk of dusty loop-house whose restless electric piano motifs and rumbling bassline are undeniably addictive.
