Review: Sun's out, lenger's out - Young Guns slap down the second part of the "Ikon:Ik" series a tribute release for the late greaat Joe Ikon and it's every bit as ruthless, uncompromised and all-encompassing as the launch release two weeks ago. Ranging from the clipped and sinewy laser bass riff stabs of "Listen" to the more subverted biggie-bass grumblings of "Wake Up Fucked Up" by way of the sprightly skank and toxic slurry bass of "Twist", it's another scorching Ikon beacon for all drum & bass radars.

Constantly splashing their signature funk to any genre or corner of the dance they feel, Brighton-nee-London indie Jalapeno dust off the handsome array of D&B originals and remixes they've released plus a selection of brand new cuts such as Serum's sublime homage to De La Soul & Chaka Khan's "All Good" and a chilly graveyard staunter from Cybass ("Departure") Other highlights include Max Sedgley's Moulin Rouge-burning soul-stamper "What've I Got To Do", Dr Meaker's instant-smile inducing party-primed remix of Aldo Vanucci, Technimatic's sunset twist of Ephemerals and the unabashed vibes of Deeline & Ed Solo's Featurecast remix. And that's not even half of it. Tasty.

Review: Young Guns Recordings: keeping the true spirit of drum and bass alive. It's all fire on this release, starting out nicely with Ikon & Fatman D's Rhianna sampling "Murdara", a minimal tech stepper reminiscent of legends like Trace and Decoder. They up the ante on Fretman's "Good Night" with its high pitched hoover samples and bongo drums going ballistic nasty sub bass pulsations and the fiercest breaks this side of Ed Rush & Optical. Finally Ikon is back again, going solo on "Run It" where he lets the bassline do the talking, quite literally at times, complete with old junglist samples and sampled dancehall breakdown towards the middle which works really well.
