Review: The Straight Up Breakbeat team have undoubtedly pulled a seriously cool collection of originals out of the bag with this next mini-compilation as they unveil the first edition of 'Flatliners', featuring four potent breakbeat bangers. We begin with the nostalgic drum designs and powerful bassline action of Aeon Four's 'Ruffer' before the high energy, hardcore throwbacks of 'Immersion' deliver a second punch of good feeling. Next, 'Lift Off' from Infekto pushes together scattered drum breaks and powerful sub-lines below but this time with a spacious pad gracing the high end, followed by one heck of a finale in 'Hypnotic Hardcore', a slower, more ambient creation which brings the project to a gentle close.

Review: Krafty Kuts & Bomb Strikes, two names that when combined leave us with potentially incredible results. They join forces here to curate and design the fifth edition of 'Bass Funk', showcasing some of the most prominent faces across the entire breadth of breaks. The tracklisting for this one looks pretty monstrous, featuring the likes of A Skillz, Dubra, Arteo, Fort Knox Five, K+Lab & more. There are a couple of immediate stand outs however, with the latin horn melodies and vibrant rhythms of Ninjula's 'Spanish Princess' and the pure rawcus devilry of 'AI' from the legendary Delta Heavy both standing out!

Review: There's something about a funky liquid roller, with its sunny sampling and upbeat nonchalance, that hits harder than any Neurofunk or jump-up track. They're just pure, unadulterated funk-based energy and that's what Infekto has lined up for us here, two slices of simplicity and elegance. 'Casino' is the first, with climbing brass notes and a soulful vocal flick over the top, each phrase smoothly slips into the next and the track ends before you know it - a real eye-closer. 'Memories' is more of the same except with a hefty dose of double-bass action bringing the low-frequency funk, with another catchy vocal sample laid out over the top and yet more summery vibes. Love this one.

Review: Rico Tubbs dusts off his old Infekto alter ego for some classic junglist fun. Both rolling at the original 160 tempo, it's an instant snapback to the early chapters when Moving Shadow forecasted the bleakest of electronic futures. "Escape" balances a classic reggae sample with a slew of roughage drums while "Phuture" is a rainbow of harmonic arpeggios layered over breaks so finely diced you'll feel freshly shaven just listening to it. Remix-wise Modern Ruin regulars lay down the science: The Renegades throw in a little hardcore mentality (and just a tiny bit of acid) while Sideswipe provide some rather champion sounds (ahem).

Reminiscent of the 'Stylers back around the early thousands, this will slap several shades of sweaty from any skank-minded dance.
