Review: For the latest missive on his long-running Internasjonal imprint, Norse disco don Prins Thomas has turned to first-time collaborators SONNS (AKA South Korea-based Frenchman Timothee Victorri) and Mexcian maverick Inigo Vontier, a producer renowned for the psychedelic nature of his dancefloor workouts. The headline attraction is arguably title tracl 'Mascara De Tigre', a pleasingly percussive, offbeat and mind-mangling affair that wraps hazy piano motifs, trippy electronics and tactile vocal samples around an unusual but addictive beat. Prins Thomas remixes, giving the track a sleazy Italo disco-meets-weirdo house flex, before the pair offer up two more tracks: the acid-flecked nu-disco shuffle of 'Dreamers' and the post punk-goes-dark disco flex of 'Drummers Dance'.

Review: Inigo Vontier returns to Multi Culti with a crafty four-track EP. "Asi Si" is a rolling tribal house groove, populated by high-pitched tones and repetitive vocal samples. Dub influences loom large on the title track, where spaced out tones are fused with warbling 303s and subtle percussive builds. Vontier takes inspiration from Chicago on "Tumbada", with doubled-up drums and steely percussion providing the basis for gritty acid lines and a clanging bass. "Ultra Jungle" marks another shift in sound. On this occasion, Vontier deploys robust kicks and a throbbing, pulsating bass, making for a delightfully tripped out dub disco track.

Review: For fans of Damian Lazarus's Crosstown Rebels label, the release of a new SPIRITS compilation has become something of a New Year tradition. In Lazarus' words, the yearly collection - which here hits its' sixth volume - sets the label's "agenda" for the year ahead via cuts from fresh signings and label regulars. There are plenty of bona-fide dancefloor gems to be found throughout the eight-track collection, with our current favourites including the throbbing, percussion-rich big room tech-house excellence of 'The Vision' by Cameron Jack; the acid-fired heaviness of Lauren Lane's 'Fair Game', with its wobbly sub-bass and echoing Latin drum hits; the crackling, mind-mangling tech-house psychedelia of 'So Deep' by Cristina Lazic and Leia Contois; and the fiendishly bass-heavy tribal-tech wonder that is Inigo Vontier's accurately titled 'That Trippy Sound'.

Review: Following years spent showcasing his hallucinatory, tribal-tinged musical fusions on the likes of Multi-Culti, Lumiere Noire and Roam Recordings, Inigo Vontier makes his bow on Optimo Music's club-focused Digital Danceforce offshoot. He hits the ground running with title track 'Setsi', a thrillingly mind-mangling chugger rich in wonky electronic noises, foreboding pulses, stabbing bass and restless cowbells, before dousing Maurice Fulton's Syclops sound in premium Mezcal on 'Weirdo'. 'Oh Yeah' fixes hissing, seemingly-non-stop cymbals and more trippy electronics to a locked-in groove, while 'Mental Letal' is a shroom-powered throb-job where undulating electronics and odd, modular-sounding noises fizz across the sound space.

Review: For their tenth release, Mexico's Inigo Vontier (Calypso Records) returns to Swedish label Ya Hala Ya Hala with an exciting three track EP titled Talom, on which he proves yet again to be one of the most exciting artists on the dark disco scene. Features the tunnelling psychedelic chug of "Kual" leading into the droning title track which will have you stoned into the groove with its combination of throbbing bassline, quirky synths and stuttered vocals, and finally "Tokoto" will propel you into the stratosphere on this spaced-out yet lo-slung epic.

Review: For proof of just how broad a church 'disco' has become in the modern era, look no further than this collection from "eclectic and lysergic" Argentinian/Spanish label Playground, which opens in Afro-cosmic territory courtesy of Petr Stanci and Beatfoot, then spans styles ranging from Orchid's almost New Beat-ish 'Geomantika' to the house/prog/Italo vibes of 'Disco Atomica' by Zombies In Miami & Joseeph, via what to these ears is the EP standout, Oblako Moranta's slo-mo synth throbber 'Onion Rings Around Saturn'. You won't find much in the way of straight-up funk/soul-inspired disco, but if your tastes lean to the electronic side there's plenty to enjoy here.

Review: Following some great EPs by the likes of Alex Aguayo, Silicodisco and label chief David Ponziano, Penrose kickstarts back into action with a terrific new one this week by Calypso Records" Inigo Vontier, in collaboration with Concret - the duo comprised of Diego Angelico Escobar and Q-pha. The Mexican trio serve up a tunneling expedition through the more psychedelic fringes of indie-dance on "Kiodo" which receives a rework by the one-and-only Lauer up next, taking you on a neon-lit night drive. Then submit to the hypnotic polyrhythms of dark disco chugger "Buconero", it too getting a re-rub this time by Javi Redondo - who delves deep into 303 territory.

Review: For the second volume in the label's occasional Calypso Cult series, Multi Culti has snapped up two tracks apiece from "warriors of chug" (as they put it) Inigo Vontier and Thomass Jackson. Jackson steps up first, peppering a stretched out groove with trippy effects and hallucinatory electronics on the deliciously wonky 'Big Plastic Room', before opting for a bass-heavy, new beat-goes-to-the-moon vibe on the pleasingly out-there 'Slow Train'. Vontier instinctively pitches up the tempo and reaches for some ritualistic percussion sounds (think marimba melodies, oddball hand percussion and more) on the sparse psychedelic disco throb of 'Jungle Tungle', before reverting to 98 BPM on the psyobilin-doused weirdo dub of 'Hipocampos'. A brilliantly wayward EP all told.

Review: There's a time for accessible podium belters, and there's a time for deeper jams that aren't afraid to take a left turn now and again. This five-tracker is one to reach for when you're firmly into the latter zone, as Multi Culti serve up a collection of eyes-down, late-night cuts that mine various global musics for inspiration: Sheila Chandra has been a stalwart of the British Asian music scene for 40 years, Sababa 5's 'Nasnusa' is a take on a classic Mizrahi song, while the title of 'Amakondera' references a style of Rwandan music that uses horn- and gourd-based wind instruments. An EP that will delight those whose tastes lean towards the exotic and the less familiar.

Review: Those Duro boys are it again, look out! Label chiefs Inigo Vontier & Theus Mago team up for some typically devilish disco on their latest offering "Derrumbes & Escaleras", where the Mexican duo take you deep into the cosmic hole for a lesson in proper trance induction. There are three remixes also included: Chez De Milo carries over the hypnotic polyrhythms of the original and keeps it slo-mo, while Zillas On Acid's take is a muscular EBM styled rendition for the peak time, plus Saiko going for an acid infused and bass-driven minimal style thumper.

Review: Based in Hamburg, TAU is a label started in 2018 by Benjamin Busse and Friso Traas aka Adana Twins, that has released tracks by scene heroes such as Glowal, Echonomist, The Cheapers and many more. The label presents their second instalment in the 'Spektrum' various artists sampler, which features top shelf material by the likes of: Southern Italian duo Underspreche who deliver the entrancing pizzicato inflected vibes of "My Beloved", German veteran Ruede Hagelstein delivering impeccable dancefloor drama as always on "Aschera", ascendant Berliners Local Suicide teaming up with Duro main man Theus Mago on the dark disco odyssey "Technican" and Watergate's sound engineer in residence Biesmans, who provides yet more successful efforts in his newfound love of music production on the neon-lit Italo acid energy of "Wild Wild World".

Review: Hailing from Mexico Inigo Vontier has graced a number of discofied house labels out there like Chloe's Lumiere Noire and Thomas Von Party's Multi Culti, but it was 2017 when the artist first emerged on Calypso, delivering the label it's third release. He returns to where it all began delivering an the Mexican imprint with a new age ambient album of EBM infused exotica journeying through sweet and subtle synths to organic soundscapes and otherworldly percussion. Expect broken beats and touches of jazz to heavily processed sine waves and harder drum machine aggression. A trip from start to finish.

Review: INigo Vontier delivers the third take of Calypso Records. Inspired by a local mexican tribe called the "Huicholes" or "Raramuris", Vontier delivers three tracks full of hypnotic rythms and ritual chants accompanied by Dreems on remix duties. To begin the ritual, "Wirikuta" will take you to a higher state of consciousness with Huichol chants and horns. As a wake up call "Marakame" will hit you in the guts with a straight forward drumbeat and sharp synths. "Maxa" does the work for a mental trip with chants that comes and go with psychedelic guitars on top. To finalize the ritual, aussie wizard Dreems comes with a more foward version of "Wirikuta" that somehow mix a new age feeling with the tribe vibes. On top of these four tracks, the label offers us two digital only tracks which should definitely not be missed.

Review: Mexican producer Inigo Vontier releases his fifth EP, including a massive remix from Tolouse Low Trax of Salon Des Amateurs. Vontier claims that since he was young, he's been immersed in the culture of the Mexican Aztecs and Mayas. Seen from Europe, his assertion can seem puzzling; but to him this hybridisation makes sense, expressing the dreams of people steeped in such mystique. Moreover, he states proudly that he's here to help the Mexican dance music scene to reach its deserved credibility, along with homegrown heroes such as Rebolledo (Pachanga Boys/Hippie Dance). The slow burning and atmospheric "Aluxes" comes by way of Italo via Kompakt style techno. "Patito" gets it on much darker and energetically: perfect to create dancefloor drama and will appeal to fans of the Correspondant sound. Equally brooding is "Macaco" but the aforementioned remix by Dusseldorf hero Detlef Weinrich takes it down a notch and into a nice tool styled remix for cruise control on the dancefloor.

Review: It's not often we get an insight into the electronic music of South America, so all hail the arrival of Calypso from Mexico's Inigo Vontier and Argentina's Thomass Jackson. The tracks featured certainly strike a unique chord, with Mendrix weaving a seductive, noirish tale full of brooding guitar and slow ticking drums, while "Colossio" takes on a darkwave tone on the wonderfully creepy "Esta En Mi". The label bosses carries on with Jackson's "Fantomas" sporting a sharper dancefloor sensibility without ever resorting to obvious tropes. Vontier rounds the EP out with the weirdo boogie throwdown of "Namaste", sure to pique the interest of anyone locked into the sound coming out of the speakers.

Review: Tronik Youth's London based tech house and nu-disco force Nein is back with a weighty 17-trackcompilation celebrating his current label roster and a love for more retro-inspired sounds. From the grinding electro-punk of Justine's "Infernale Cavale", to Freudenthal's dark synthpop epic "Bilderblast", there's plenty of stylistic range here. Highlights come thick and fast on Yes Means Nein, with the gutsy EBM groove of Tunnel Signs "Hellfire" and a remix of Emperor Machine's "Sisco Seeker" from label mainstay Rodion and Fabrizio Mammarella particularly standing out!

Review: Since launching back in 2012 with a suitably grisly EP from Moon Runner, Disque-Discos' occasional Discorror series has provided listeners with an impressive catalogue of horror-influenced, heavily electronic disco jams. This fifth installment, arriving just in time for Halloween, offers more of the same. There's naturally plenty to enjoy, from the John Carpenter-on-steroids pomp of Comegatos' "Ultratumba" and psycho strings of Gameboyz dark italo jam "Casa De Morte", to the throbbing bass, snappy analogue hits and moody electronics of Inigo Vontier's "Camino A Mordor". Arguably even better is the deliciously camp stomp of "Palo Oscurito" by Roman & Castro, and the sludgy, mid-tempo pulse of Tronik Youth's standout "The Machines Are Coming".
