Review: The almighty Flexout dig deep into their vaults for this very special sophomore volume of their Deep Dark Soul series. Featuring a wide range of long time friends and fresh new talent, all five of these cuts slaps and tickles with raw intent and smouldering tension. Amoss gets busy with his remix of Objectiv and T-Man's 'Baritone', Invadhertz twist our melons with the soothing chords and twisted bass tones of 'Everything To Me' while Arkaik turns us off and turns us on again for the ultimate system reboot 'The Great Reset'. Bringing up the rear we have Blinde with the super dreamy 'Cursed' and Nebulate who rattles us up no end with the finale cut 'Glitch'. Modern soul never sounded so twisted.
Review: Felix Raymon and Invadhertz link up for an absolute peach of a release on Flexout. 'Heartless' is pure fast lane bliss as it paces along with a simple back/forth bass squelch, sweeping pads and processed vocal. It's backed up by two deliciously contrasting collabs with Jamal Dilmen; 'Too Late' is an obscene halftime / space funk punch up while 'Too Much' is a gentle jazzy heartbreaker along the lines of SpectraSoul and dBridge's 'Glimpse'. In case that's not enough, the deal is further sealed with a Wingz remix of 'Too Much'. Hearty.
Review: Vandal's Modern Soul series of LPs has for a long time been a breeding ground for a wide variety of drum & bass, including formative tracks from Shield, Monty and others. This time around it's number five and the quality continues, kicking things off with a gorgeously light liquid number from Phase and Lameduza that brings old school vibes right to the forefront. Tech wizard Rizzle is known for his liquid depth too as 'Levitate' has a sumptuously mystical back end that falls and falls, whilst fellow minimal heads Invadhertz equally try their hand at wispy pads and far-off vocal samples. Monty makes an appearance, as does Amoss, SKS and Arcatype. A tour de-force.
Review: Premiership D&B deepsmiths Delta9 hit the streets once again for another immense VA collection. All chiselled from new-gen coal face, all devilishly dark and stripped-back in nature, tracks come from the likes of Waeys, Screamarts, Askel & Elere, Sl8r, Nemy and many more key names-to-watch who are showing all the right sings of donning things in the very near future. Highlights across the 25 track collection include the waspy stabs and elastic bassline of Nemy's "Distracting", the bulldozer groove of RMS's "Mikro", the faraway soul and epic atmospheres of Glyph's "Across Hidden Dimension" to name but a few...
Review: Invadhertz are one of the best acts working on the more minimal side of the spectrum right now, with releases on Flexout, Context and more, and now they're flying the Italian flag on Delta9 Recordings. This is a sweet EP, featuring a stinking remix from fre4knc, that stretches out over six tracks of pure stripped back, industrial sonics. There's a range of sounds, from the minimal forces of 'Neo Tribes' contrasting with the rolling liquid sounds of 'Take Me Places'. This is a piece of quality from Delta9.
