Review: By their standards, Jack Fell Down - AKA producers James Vickers and Tony Craig - had a fairly quiet 2014, with an acclaimed EP on Quintessentials their only release of note. Here, they kick-start 2015 with an expansive EP for Jacques Renault and Nik Mercer's Let's Play House imprint. Despite the intergalactic melodies and acid-flecked funk of "Space Junk", it's a largely heads-down, late night affair, with the duo variously offering up clanking rhythms and wonky electronics ("Overrated"), moody tech-house ("Epiphany") and thunderous, dub influenced after-party fare ("Blackmail"). Matrixxman channels this clandestine mood, turning "Overrated" into a typically Germanic chunk of mind bending tech-house.

Review: The eighth release on Sccucci Manucci sees the imprint pack a hefty eight productions that traverse various house sounds from around the world onto two slabs of handstamped wax. From Coeo's bouncy and vocal track through to Mella Dee's dark and distinctively UK-centric track the label has tried to explore the sheer wealth of production talent on offer at the moment.

Review: Fast-rising Brit house duo Jack Fell Down (AKA James Vickers and Tony Craig) pop up on Milanese imprint DaBit with more booming, bassy, floor-filling fare. "Bump 2 Bump", a sweaty combination of classic chords, bassbin-bothering low-end, sparse vocal samples and robust rhythms, is arguably the pick of the EP, though the Mood II Swing-inspired, organ-heavy bounce of of "I Say" isn't far behind. Remix-wise, Accatone delivers a warm, cosy and decidedly deep dub of "Bump 2 Bump", while Urulu adds a little more depth and wide-eyed feeling to the previously hectic "I Say". As a result, it's Urulu's mix that stands out.

Review: Breaking crowns with their smooth, synth-struck melodies since launching in 2012, Jack Fell Down are making some serious waves on the deep house scene right now. With four tracks in total, this EP shows the duo at their most extensive and comprehensive. Boasting the distinctive confident laziness of vocalist Stee Downes throughout, across the EP you'll drift away to a whole new world on the deep, dubby title track, you'll bump and grind to the 2 Bears-style "No Way" and you'll lie back and receive a full mind massage from "Just Begun". Jack Fell Down... and the vibes came tumbling after.

Another Way EP
Road To No Where - (6:54) 117 BPM Hot
Brothers And Sisters - (8:04) 121 BPM
Review: The Jack Fell Down duo made a considerable splash last year with releases on Southern Fried and Hometaping Is Killing Music and now they resurface in style with the Another Way EP. The second offering from new Sccucci Manucci offshoot, Manucci's Mistress, this 10" operation is a good home for the Jack Fell Down sound. Lead track "Road To Nowhere" displays a pensive melodic restraint that many of the new crop of house producers seem to overlook in their excitement to get productions from Ableton to Soundcloud. If the first track sounds like Jack Fell Down holding back, then "Brothers & Sisters" could potentially have them sectioned, such is the crazed madness of the screaming vocals that intermittently punctuate the 90s rave stabs. Great fun.

Provision - (6:21) 113 BPM
Review: With two strong releases already under their belts for Southern Fried showcasing their dubby, Visionquest-style house grooves, Jack Fell Down move to Home Taping Is Killing Music for their latest release. This time round, they've got designs on the shuffling, mid-tempo garage house sound that Huxley does so well; the title track achieves all this and more with its atmospheric vocals and thick bassline, while "My Body" continues the theme with its snappy percussion, spacious atmospherics, swaggering bassline and smooth synth buildups. "Provision" meanwhile is another deep excursion into midnight dancefloor territory with its dubbed out, rolling bassline and crisp hi-hats. The Revenge provides his own remix of "My Body" and its expectedly brilliant, imbuing the original with an added sense of urgency and depth.

Review: Label boss Shir Khan describes Secret Gold as a "mini compilation series", with each release showcasing previously unheard cuts from the extended Exploited family. This second EP expands on the three-track formula of the first, offering five solid saunters into the worlds of house and techno. There's a chunk of revivalist rave-era house fuzziness from Jesse Perez (the sturdy "Mama Me la"), a formidably bass-heavy tech-boompty take on Claptone's "Maximum" from Joyce Muniz and some delicious synth futurism-meets-deep house from Purple Velvet. Oh, and some siren-laden midtempo "Bounce" from the fast-rising Jack Fell Down.

Review: Bristol-based rising stars Jaymo and Andy George are regular collaborators. Here, they join forces again to launch Moda Music offshoot Moda Black with a compilation of previously unreleased material. For those interested in the new wave of British and European house, it should be an essential purchase. Some of the duo's own Bristol pals make an appearance, with strong contributions from Lukas (the darting "Best In Show") and Eats Everything & Idiotproof (an excellent, peaktime-friendly remix of The 2 Bears). Elsewhere, highlights include a grandiose new cut from the duo themselves, an organ-heavy garage-meets-cocaine house banger from Disclosure, and a cacophonous rinse-out from Hot Since 82.

Review: Despite being seriously hyped - largely on the back of giving away some very good deep house material on Soundcloud - London combo Jack Fell Down are doing their best to remain nameless and push their "we do it differently" credentials. This debut commercial release for Southern Fried shows a willingness to mix things up in search of deep house perfection. So, we get nagging disco guitars and Visionquest-ish grooves on "I Want It", bluesy, early morning blissfulness on "Anyway" and soft-focus, feelgood retro-futurism on "Everybody". There's also another freebie in the shape of "Deepest Sleep", a shuffling, dubbed-out slice of saucer-eyed slinkiness.
