Review: A few weeks ago you may remember us asking if James Burnham ever finds time to sleep? Clearly not! The Middlesbourough native and Constant Sound main man takes time out from the Burnski alias and is on a roll as James Solace, following up a terrific efforts for Hot Creations and Knee Deep In Sound. His new hit prediction is "Ghost Town", a rolling funky house tool which is sure to cause a stir in the clubs, not to mention the energised and tranced-out euphoria of "Universal" and the utterly hypnotic prog house epic "Spectral" which will work a treat under the strobe lights. Finally, the Afro house influenced "Thoughts" provides emotive and spiritual vibes.

Review: Does James Burnham ever find time to sleep? The Leeds-based tech house hero has been churning out his trademark grooves for the better part of 15 years as Burnski, where he was a staple of top labels like 20:20 Vision, Dessous and Real Tone before moving on to head up his successful Constant Sound - the current 'go to' label. He's no stranger to Jamie Jones either, having released on both Hot Creations and sister label Hottrax previously, but he's back under the lesser known alias of James Solace here for the 'Mind Music' EP. It features the deep, down and dirty Reese-driven action of "Keep On", the sunny peak time thriller "Catalyst" which we can imagine having the crowd going mental on The White Isle this summer, and the tunnelling after hours shenanigans of "Groove" - which works that TB-303 to perfection.

Portal EP
Portal - (6:05) 126 BPM Hot
Ba Dah Be Dah - (5:36) 127 BPM
54 - (6:18) 128 BPM
Review: Two of the biggest names in UK house team up here for a massive release on the ever reliable Hot Creations: the prolific and multifaceted James Solace (aka James 'Burnski" Burnham) with rising star of the scene Michael Jansons - who's hot off the success of his hit "Medicine" with Dope Earth Alien. Of the Portal EP, the pair described eager plans to join each other for some time in the studio, with lockdown being the perfect opportunity to make it happen. The White Isle summer season may not happen this year, but you can imagine you are there in the club while listening to the pumping title track. This is proper funked up and tough rolling tech house that's aimed squarely at the main room dancefloor. Next up, get your head down and into the groove on the sweltering tribal rhythms of "Ba Dah Be Dah" followed by the hypnotic disco loops of "54" nailing that classic DJ Sneak vibe.

Setting Sun/The Light
Setting Sun - (6:48) 127 BPM
The Light - (6:03) 127 BPM Hot
Setting Sun (East End Dubs remix) - (7:04) 127 BPM
The Light (Jansons remix) - (6:52) 126 BPM
Setting Sun (VONDA7's Flying On Cloud 7 remix) - (5:05) 126 BPM
Review: A synth-tastic EP here from Richy Ahmed's Four Thirty Two stable that touches on several musical bases. The two originals are most likely to find favour with the progressive/melodic community: 'Setting Sun' foregrounds a shimmering, arpeggiated synth line while 'The Light' has a more driving, peaktime kinda feel. Remix-wise, East End Dubs' mix of 'Setting Sun' is the pick for deep house floors, with the synths toned down and the bassline brought forward, while Jansons delivers a surging, euphoric take on 'The Light' and finally VONDA7's Flying On Cloud 7 Remix of 'Setting Sun' takes us into progressive techno territory.

Lime - (5:22) 125 BPM
Shine - (4:54) 124 BPM
Review: The unstoppable force that is James Burnham returns under his James Solace alias, with three pumping tracks on the 'Shine' EP for Knee Deep In Sound. The retro jack of the roaring vocal house number "Time" features a familiar vocal from a Detroit classic, repackaging this as an anthem for another generation. This is followed by the slinky and evocative mood music of "Lime" which makes for perfect summertime euphoria (in isolation, of course) until finally the title track ends things on another soulful and uplifting note, featuring life affirming vocals and hypnotic pads over a smooth deep house groove.

Sputnik
Sputnik - (6:48) 127 BPM
Colour Theme - (6:17) 127 BPM
No Signal - (6:39) 125 BPM Hot
Review: The unstoppable James Burnham is back again this week under the James Solace alias, which follows up some fire releases of late on Hot Creations and Last Night On Earth. This one is for a new imprint called Callisto. Features the very Kevin Saunderson sounding hi-tech soul epic that is "Sputnik", complete with roaring Reese bassline and futuristic motifs galore. He goes for a neon-lit night drive on the soulful and uplifting nu-disco of "Colour Theme" featuring a Giorgio Mordoer style arpeggio, and closes it out with the glassy eyed and bittersweet dub tech house journey "No Signal".
