Review: Rwax has handed Brian Garrett AKA Javonntte his own 'Trax Series' of releases on their Motor City Edition offshoot - an honour previously only afforded to Gerald Mitchell AKA Los Hermanos. This series debut is a predictably strong offering, with Garett bouncing between rubbery, jazz-flecked deep house positivity (the starry and infectious 'Alone With You'); sub-heavy, synth sax-sporting chunkiness ('Deep...Into You', a variation on the EP's opening cut); smooth and classy deep house sensuality ('Every Body's a Star'); and intergalactic-but-underwater excellence ('Neptunelove', where raw analogue sub-bass, spacey synth sounds and tactile chords catch the ear). In other words, it's another rock-solid outing from one of deep house's most reliable producers.

Review: More value-for-money goodness from Situationism's 'In The Bag' series, which offers up tried-and-tested tunes and never-before-heard remixes of catalogue cuts. As you'd expect, label bosses Situation are heavily represented, with Max Essa's dreamy, squelch-along Balearic nu-disco tweak of 'Say Goodbye' being joined by Masterman's deep and spacey house revision of their Andre Esput hook-up, 'Not So Crazy'. The hits come thick and fast elsewhere across the EP, from the groovy, dubby, disco-tinged deep house shuffle of 'Peqach Snapps' by Francesco S, and a gorgeously summery spin on Javontte's 'Beautiful' by South Beach Recycling, to the deep, broken house sunshine that is 'L'Amore' by Aaron Matthews, and the mid-tempo New Jersey garage retro-futurism of Bittasuite's 'We Have Landed'.

There's naturally plenty to get the blood pumping throughout, from the thrillingly off-kilter Afro-house rhythms of Mike Agent X Clark's 'My Journey Thru Afroism', and Javontte's sensational recent single 'Soul People', to the sparkling synths of BRS's 'Chance Not Choice' and the rushing, jazz guitar-flecked summer house swelter of Groovement Inc's 'Firstdraw'. Review: Lumberjacks in Hell's latest release may well be the smoothest, warmest and most soulful chunk of deep house we've heard so far in 2021. 'Jus Move' is a cross-generational collaboration between Jonna and Javontte, with both providing slick, eyes-closed vocals atop a hazy, occasionally loopy backing track (all clipped organ sounds, unfussy drum machine beats and woozy chords). It's followed by one of the final remixes by the late, great Michael Baumann AKA Soulphiction - a dusty, jazzy, warming and tactile take tailor-made for dancefloors at sunrise. Detroit's Marcellus Pittman provides a longer, Osunlade-influenced take to close - think deep Afro-house with plenty of jazzy mucsical details and you're close.

Review: Detroit dee house don Javontte first joined forces with Stroud's Situationism label earlier this year, contributing a killer cut to the multi-artist 2Up2Down Volume 3 EP. The JMarsFrank Project sees him deliver his first fill EP for the imprint, and it's genuinely a doozy. Our undisputed highlight is 'Soul People', a Moodymann-esque chunk of organic deep house haziness in which gently spacey synths, drowsy but soulful vocals, rubbery bass guitar and starry keys ride a rolling, laidback but energetic groove. The EP includes a near 11-minute extended version, which is little less than sublime. Elsewhere, 'Moon Over You' is chunkier and sweatier, with bolder beats and heavier bass amongst the headline attractions, while 'Like 9' is a sparkling and spacey slab of intergalactic deep house warmth.

Review: Body N Deep's first BND Project mini-compilation was one of our favourite EPs of 2019 - a 27-minute journey into deep, soulful house packed with high-quality tracks. This belated sequel is every bit as alluring as its predecessor, with label chief Jovonn selecting another four treats for the ears. Atlanta's Kai Alce kicks things off with a sublime slab of percussive and sweaty late-night deep house ('Dreamin'), before Alex Arnout adds sci-fi synth lines, sustained chords and bubbly electronics to a rock-solid beat on 'Flashback'. Those seeking sun-drenched positivity should check out Alfozo Bottone's sparkling 'Mindfully', while Javontte's 'Too High' offers a near-perfect blend of chunky, off-kilter grooves, jazzy keys, filter effects and massively manipulated Stevie Wonder vocal samples.

Review: Lumberjacks In Hell welcome Croatian producer Andrej Laseech to the table following his promising early outings on Be Yourself and Sound Exhibitions. On this release, Laseech has reached out to the mighty, eternally prolific Javonntte for a little vocal magic, resulting in the utterly sexy deep house burner "More Than Friends". It's a track that Marcel Vogel & Tim Jules clearly dig, judging by the light touch they applied to their own remix of the track. "Take You Away" on the flip is another sweet and sultry warm-up or backroom jam that gets lifted even higher by Javonntte's stellar vocals.

Review: Whether serving up devilishly drowsy deep house and sun-kissed downtempo grooves, Detroit stalwart Brian "Javonntte" Garrett can do no wrong. Further proof arrives via "The Show EP", which marks the Motor City producer's first outing on Burek. We're particularly enjoying "Journey", where Garrett's own seductive, soulful vocals drift across bustling beats, seductive strings, warm keys and thickset synth-bass. Others, though, may prefer the elastic beats, snaking synth-sax, booming bass and cheeky James Brown samples of "Tomorrow", the dreamy soulful house shuffle of "No One Like You" or the Skyy-sampling deep house bliss of closing cut "Enter The Disco". Basically, every track's a winner - as you'd expect given his track record - and you'd be a fool not to snap up the EP.

Review: Detroit legend Brian 'Javonnte' Garrett steps up with four tracks that are absolutely drenched in soul. Opener 'UK Express' is aptly titled as there are distinct UK garage influences at play, albeit paired with synth-strings that are pure Detroit. 'Into The Night' is redolent of the likes of Amp Fiddler or Thundercat, while 'Samba Say' is another one where the clue's in the name as Latin influences come to the fore, along with some vocal scatting including an infectious 'hmm mmm mmm' chorus. And then finally there's 'Day Dreaming', an ultra-smooth soulful houser destined for heavy rotation at the likes of Vocal Booth Weekender and 51st State.

Review: For as long as we can remember, Defected's annual Miami Music Week compilation has done a brilliant job showcasing tracks that we'll be dancing to a lot in the following weeks and months. Predictably, this year's volume is no different. There's the usual mixture of alternative remixes of familiar favourites from the previous 12 months (see David Penn's remix of Sophie Lloyd's gospel disco anthem "Calling Out" and I:Cube's brilliant revision of Peggy Gou's "It Makes You Forget"), previously released anthems (Horse Meat Disco and Amy Douglas's "Let's Go Dancing" and Ray Mang's delicious disco mix of Phenomenal Handclap Band's "Judge Not") and suitably big tunes that will soon become peak-time staples the world over (see the tracks by Bawrut, Low Steppa, Bsicits and Mighty Mouse).

Review: Detroit deep house producer Javonntte returns to German label Quintessentials with a four-track EP. '20 Million On The Planet' marries pounding drums to a Cevin Fisher-like "I wanna make 'em all dance" vocal, 'Detroit 9' is a jazzy, lounge-y affair underpinned by more of those whomping 4/4s, 'And We Vibe' - arguably the standout of the four tracks here - has strands of both jazz-funk and 80s boogie in its DNA, while the slightly pacier 'In My Soul' combines a dubwise bassline, a soulful one-line vocal and flamenco strains into a blissed-out cut that's got 'Ibiza sundown' written all over it.

Review: A warm welcome to Detroit producer Javonntte for his first Quintessentials release. Javonntte has been releasing his blend of pure deep house quality for years, and his new release How Is Club246 is another fine example of his great talent. First of all, the title is an homage to a club in Detroit, circa 1996. Javonntte's interpretation of this zeitgeist is quite diverse - from the opening track "Remember" which takes its cues from Kerri Chandler or Jovonn, whereas the title rack is a funk and bumpin' club tool for all you Chicago fans out there. The B-side goes deeper with "Worldmix" which is a deep, smoky and lo-slung groove for the late night and "Citylights" is a classic vocal deep house track. Club246 means proper house music - all night long.

Review: It would be fair to say that Javontte (AKA original '90s deep house producer Brian Garrett) has been making up for lost time. Since returning to action in 2016, he's released no less than ten EP singles, all of which have been packed with high quality material. Predictably, it's hard to find fault with the five fine tracks featured on Garrett's first contribution to the Let's Play House "White" series. Check, for example, the bumpin' '90s deep house warmth of opener "Just Listen", where ascending electric piano lines rise above toasty chords and sneaky vocal samples, and the feel-good roll of "Capricorn". Elsewhere, we recommend the spacey bounce of "City to City People", which also features a wobbly, D&B style bassline, and the laidback dancefloor jazziness of evocative closer "Organic J Mix 2".
