Review: Bristol bubblers aplenty! Jaxx returns to Natty Dub with four more of his finest bumpers and bruisers. All stripped back to the bare beats and bass, each cut comes with its own cheeky groove and character. 'Patterns' takes the lead and sets the scene with its molten bass and rolling drums, elsewhere 'Love Over War' ups the energy with big splashy Zinc-style breaks and trippy bleeps, 'Sycamore' hits with that classic Full Cycle style jazz and some superb bassline wobbles while 'Stuck In A Rut' closes the EP with a rasping gritty edge that's reminiscent of a young Mampi Swift. Review: Time for some unadulterated, uncut wobbly Bristol D&B direct from one of the most authorised Avon sources - OG Full Cyclist Suv and his Ramp Up label. First up comes Slix who, fresh from his adventures on the likes of Train and Twist, lays down 'Brighter Dayz' complete with a bassline so flabby it would make D*Minds blush. Not to be outdone, Ramp Up daddy Jaxx brings up the rear with 'Darker Dayz', a more percussive take that's full of Stokes Croft grunt. Loaded with a remix for a good variation, this is heavy enough to have you saying 'Oh my dayz' for at least eight and a half months. Maybe longer.

Review: We don't mean to alarm you but Jaxx has 'Left The Dome'. Where is he going? We don't know. Why was he even in the dome? We don't know. What exactly is the dome? We don't know. Should we care? Probably not because he's firing out baboy tunes like nobody's business regardless of whether he's in the dome or not. Especially on this EP. Highlights across this stinking six-track selection include the swaggering groove and grizzles of 'Which Could Be Worse?', the rattling slaps and killer spoken word sample of 'Sonic Booms' and the raw funk of 'In The Streets'. And that's just half the EP! Dome is where the heart is.

Review: Natty Dub saddle up for their 10th anniversary with a whole slew of celebratory reboots and exclusives from the family. 2018 banger 'Where The Root Is' goes under the knife of the mighty Kleu who flip the track into a wild dancefloor beast, leaving no stone unturned and ensuring a big stack of energy for the 2022 dancefloors. 'Laserbeams' meanwhile takes us back to that anthemic, emotional mid 2000s Massive bassline sound.

Review: What a powerful collection we have here as we see the one and only Jaxx land with almost superhero-like momentum onto Co-Lab Recordings, equipped with four rave-weapons for us all to enjoy. First up, 'Backward Never' is a wicked display of subtle percussive clinks and sub-rumbling basslines below, before 'Tinto De Verano' the steadily rising sweeps of 'Tinto De Verano' are let loose for a bit more of a stripped back adventure. We then dive into the growling, synthetic synthesizer belches of 'Tinto De Verano', which through a minimal drum backing becomes all the more potent the longer it extends. To round off, 'Darker Tunnel', a seriously stripped back crunchfest, focusing primarily on three elements, the uniquely squeaky snare drum curdles, the folded over kicks and of course a mind-numbing bassline below.

Review: The Train Recordings team have done a very good job with this latest compilation collection, welcoming 25 pulsating originals to the table across a wide range of artists. The range of production talents involved is pretty outstanding, with the likes of Ceph, Jaxx, Phantom Warrior, Insize Dub, Top Dolla and many more all providing welcome additions to the tracklisting. For us, there are a couple of immediate stand outs, from the industrial sounding drum designs and breathy percussive blows of 'Time To Go' from Spektral, to the sub-busting synth sizzles of Ickleman's 'Open The Hatch' and of course, the spooky organ leads of Dub General's 'World Of Confusion' to match. A very full collection indeed.

Review: 'Mad Times' for the current chaotic era we seem to find ourselves in these days, courtesy of Jaxx. Last spotted on Calypso Muzak way back in 2019 when none of us even knew what a Covid was, he's back packing some of his juiciest, fattest, not mention sweariest, tear-ups to date. 'Mad Times' is a c-bomb hurling slab of danger that's followed by a wide range of flavours and ideas. 'Apologise To My Guy' is all about the obese bassline and minimal funk dynamics, 'New World' (with Illphaze) is a high voltage array of nutty bass tones while 'Didn't Stand A Chance' brings a little jungle fury in to the mix. Music to go mad as hell to.

Review: Portsmouth-based label Murky Digital returns with another collection of moody, dark, rolling and steppy drum & bass and jungle, curated by label chief founder Elsta. Highlights include: DJ Direkt's subterranean roller "Claret", Yatuza getting mental on the neurofunk trip of "Seeing Things", the ever reliable Conrad Subs steppin' out into the darkside on "Sketchy", while more expansive UK flava comes in the form of Guzi & Agro's grime crossover "The Dirty South" (Guzi remix) and with names like Malicious & Bass Antics you'd surely be in good hands right? Their offering "Talk & Chat" ticks all the boxes.

Review: Putting the bang into bangers and the hurter into hurters, Natty Dub wrap up 2021 with this box of heavyweight weaponry from some of their closest family members and affiliates. Coda takes the lead with a stampy, stompy heads-down piece with a stern reverse warp bassline and thicc-assed kicks. He's joined by an all-star cast: K Jah & Vytol link up for 'Another Tomorrow', a pipe-snapping stepper with big harmonic bass breathing beneath, Erbman gets all roughhouse with his early Clipz style bass textures, Jaxx calls time with his swaggering 'Tickin Clocks' while Damagement concludes the EP with the focused fire and fury of 'Odds & Sods'. Review: Jaxx is rolling out the old school vibes here, harking back to the Bristol jump up glory days with its oozing, heavy-set basslines and crunchy, vibrant drums. It's a two-track single on the always present Natty Dub Recordings, and it's the flip, 'Machu Picchu', that really shines. With a percussive line that will live rent free in your head for some time to come and a simple yet shocking good bassline, this is a genuine party track that would sound equally at home at a free party as it would a Metalheadz rave. Big ups.

Review: Twisted's Grid switch to full blast once again with another collections of what they call 'Head Nodders' but us mere mortals call 'deep, tense, stinky bangers'. Featuring a full cast of familiar Gridsters, the vibes range from the farty party of Jando's opening 'Jaguar Trap' to the Dutch oven noxiousness of Parallel's screaming finale 'Warped Entity'. Between these two points we have the trumpy pumpy ruffage of Damage Report's 'Punch Bag', the trippy steamy vapours of Oli Lewis's 'Just You' and the air biscuit crunch of Jaxx's swashbuckling 'Horses For Courses'. Review: Last spotted on Murky telling us to 'Prepare For Take Off', Jaxx is now back on the label and fully out of orbit with this rocket-powered five track attack. All wriggly and highly filthed, Jaxx's sound continues to hit the funkiest spots between jump-up and minimal; there's a nice whiff of Die to the title track 'Weight Off Your Shoulders', 'Be Strong' balances a sweet vocal element with a buzzsaw bassline while Dub General features on the tense, growling behemoth that is 'Got You Here', 'Nice One Mate' is a low-swinging grumbler with cheeky jazzy flourishes before 'TJA Bro' closes the EP on a grizzly early 2000s Full Cycle style message. The Jaxx Action!

Review: Squad up! Natty Dub celebrate 50 releases with this absolutely stinking set from some of their nearest and dearest, closest and bro-sest. Firing from all cannons, every track is a thumper; Saxxon gets his squelch on with "Brockley Fox", T>I is all screams, wriggles and giggles on "Pointless Torture", Sikka delivers one of his best tunes to date in the funk-fuelled form of "You Know", Suv and Mood give us a Bristol kiss with the slinky, hip-twisting "Mambo" and Jaxx nods his cap at the wild west of the mid 90s on the percussion heavy "Hurdles". Review: Murky Digital don't tend to put out music that's weak, thin or otherwise not suitable for the dancefloor. Jaxx's Prepare For Take Off EP is a testament to that, all five cuts do some serious damage and the release overall is certainly on the sharper end of the spectrum. 'Take Off' is the best of the bunch and it's got a rough, Sofa Sound edge that injects a satisfying level of oomph into the arrangement, there's a serious vibrancy in the bass-drums relationship and it's a pleasure to listen to. 'Stacks' is a close second and its incredibly unique concoction of swirling basses and gargling pulsars adds a wicked futuristic element, all of it underpinned by a creative, stepping percussive line. There's a wicked variety here and everything feels accurate and well-placed - well played to the Murky Digital crew.

Review: Murky Digital are a label who do what their name might suggest in that they release digital murkiness on a regular basis. Black Lagoon is a various artists release that brings together Jaxx, Euphonique, Vital, Damageman and Tarz, all of whom have contributed dastardly naughty tracks. Vital's 'Bank Robbers' is up there with the best of them and it's all about that bassline, a foghorn of groaning, fiery proportions which rattles its way through the arrangement. Damageman also impresses with 'Low Signal', a sub-heavy roller which will please the more minimalistic heads amongst you. Banging stuff.

Review: Jaxx has killed this EP. It's called Live Your Life and consists of four sharp-edged but nicely melodic dancefloor numbers that are aimed at causing destruction, but not indiscriminately. Our favourite is 'Zoots' featuring Wednesday Amelia, a long-time D&B vocalist who has worked with some of the best producers around, who appears on this track over what begins as soft tune with lovely guitar licks, but which descends into a bassy, wobbly number. The rest are harder, with 'Pressing Buttons' standing out for its snapping drums and grating, industrial bassline. Wicked EP therefrom the Co-Lab crew.
