Review: US drum & bass has never been in such a healthy of vibrant state as it is right now in 2023, but it's always been there and it's always been characterised and driven by longstanding soldiers like Jaybee. A man who's been on this for years and previous flexed on labels like V, Good Looking, Innerground and Mac II, here he is on Influence with two more exceptional weapons. 'Mudhole' is the heads-down groover of the two; all sludgey and deep with a vibe that's just round the corner from DLR. 'Bad Guy' takes us to much grittier territories. Review: Founded by DJ Hybrid, one of the hardest working men in the last 10 years of jungle, Audio Addict has been a vital platform for many artists to breakthrough. Kumarachi, Agro, Scartip, RMS, Section, Jaybee and many more enjoyed early cuts on the label, who've always had an open remit that's stretched from heavier dancefloor cuts to deeper, more junglist tunes. Recently rebooted with a new plan and re-generated crew, the label now look back over many killer cuts from last decade. Highlights include the sample-smashing 'Back To Reality' (RMS) , the epic disco feels of 'All You Need To Know' (Bassface Sascha & Fiendsoul) and the bleepy, low-slung stepper 'My Days Are Cold' (Agro). Here's to another 10 years.

Review: Humdruma Recordingz always try their best to replicate the no-holds-barred, anarchic nature of life on the 19th century, American frontier and they do so via the aggressive tones of modern D&B. This is a best-of compilation of tracks that have come out through the label and it puts that ethos on good display, featuring some seriously weighty acts like Coda and Ikon B. The former's contribution is especially potent, a gargling display of production intensity and a lesson to all budding artists out there in how to create a knockout jump-up track, its biting bass stabs teaching you all you need to know. Ikon B's tune - 'Really' - is equally as naughty but it rests on a much more potent set of drum hits, giving it an extra oomph that you can certainly hear. The others are just as good - check em.

Review: Digital 6 are doing us all a favour with this release, simply because the big old US of A desperately needs more representation in a scene that is dominated by the European players. Although this is obviously in part because the USA has less D&B fans, the more American music in play the faster this is likely to change. Stateside Junglism 3 is a jungle heavy, breaksy release that doesn't take many prisoners. 'Murda Music' by Shamanga, featuring MC Zulu, is a perfect example of this, as his vocals lead you in with a distinctive reggae tone before a broken drop emanates with some serious force, subterranean wobbles abound and it's an all-round moody listen. The rest of the LP is just as strong - big up the Atlantic crew!

Review: Celsius mainstay Surreal dials in US scientist Jaybee for three pristine rollers. "Signal" shows us a signal with divine rattling breaks, a groaning bass and some ace late-entering jazzy keys. "Blow" takes us deeper into the storm with an introspective sidewinder; sashayed with an air of early Lenzman, there's an immense soul coded deep into the feels right here. "Minimal" closes the show on a high with Detroitian synth tones and a classic sense of foundation insistency. Three swings, three hits; this one strikes in all directions.

Review: Randall knows what time it is. Not just in the UK but stateside too as he continues to rep and support some of the US's most authentic and clued-up junglists Jaybee and Dave Owen. Here they hit hard with some of their gulliest flavours to date: "Grimey Shit" nods at the KOTR/Benny L style of foghorn bass, "Sacrifice" gets even more twisted with a cyclical bass drone and some impeccable amen work while the rather sweary cockney free-for-all "F**k Off" mops up the mess with a heads-down techy edge. Perfectly on-point.

Review: One of America's most on-point junglists Jaybee breaks into a new year with two absolute stinkers on Force. "Anti-Paradise" is a howling hurricane of groans and moans over some devilishly tight rolling drums while "Bumbaclot Selekta" pays homage to your old lady with a plough-like energy and a dark bass texture that wouldn't have gone amiss on 31 in its scene-shaping infancy. Jaybee's not messing around here.

Review: Jaybee & XTC's 'Charlie' is a ride inside a paranoid vortex. Childish whispers hide amongst melodic shadows, worrying 'I don't feel good about this', surrounded by icy drips, metallic stabs and tumbling bass. The classic breaks surround you like net dragging you further still into this long dark tunnel. Benny L is on fine form right now producing one dancefloor destroyer after another, this is a fast paced, forward moving shuffler with a devastating sub. From the strength of this sampler, and the smasher that was Session 1 we're looking forward to hearing the full LP.

The purring subs and creepy vocal echoes of Euphorics' "Public Secret", the 1.21 gigawatt electrical current bass of The Invaderz "Underground", Jaybee's loose, slinky roller "Get Nasty", the immense supergroup roller magic of Serum, Jaybee & Dave Owen's "Pure Vibes", L-Side and Roger Bari's late 90s-flavoured space-bound jungle jam "Rock It". The list goes on. As on point as ever, Chronic are constantly smoking.

Review: There's a reason Randall hangs out with Jaybee when he's Stateside... He knows how to roll the ish out. Classically trained with his own sense of ruthless dark funk, every tune has consistently slapped and this Elm Imprint EP is no exception. "Dark Nine Seven" is straight out of the book of Blue Note while "Definition Of A Roller" lives up to its name while nodding respectfully at the likes of Spirit and Digital in the process. "Ain't It Something" jumps with a jazzy twist to the drums and an old school nod with the timestretched MC sample. Two collabos close the show.Calculon gets mucky on the tripped out halftime dub stomper "Bottlecap Riddim" while longstanding collaborator Dave Owen brings DLo into the fold for some straight up space age funk. Authentic.

Review: With previous collaborations punching massive holes through the walls at the HQ of Bryan Gee's Chronic and Liquid V, US D&B soldiers Dave Owen and Jaybee now set their sights on Bristol: home of junglist daddy Randall. Long time supporter of US D&B talent, Randall's roped the two in for a heavyweight collection: "Blow" is an all-out gully roller that seems tailor made for Mac II, "Streets Is Dirty" is all about the rattling snare and Krust-style twostep while "You Want None" is a straight-up grade-A 3am dark-out that shudders and shakes with the same grunting restraint as Jaybee's solo groaner "Who Want Some". It's a rhetorical question - we all want some.

Review: It's a Florida funk-off at Innerground HQ this month as Marky invites Sunshine State royalty for a two-track treat. Jaybee continues his rich vein of form with one of his hookiest jams to date; jazzy keys, dubby reverbs and precision breaks create the perfect bed for a velvet soul vocal. Random Movement follows with a similarly touching jam. A tight weave of dreamy instrumentation woozily waves across the mix as stern bass tones stretch sporadically, giving the sensuous floating textures real gravitas. In other words, this is dope.
