Body Movin
Body Movin - (4:30) 174 BPM
Blinded - (4:34) 174 BPM Hot
Review: Returning to the label almost precisely a year since his 'Alternate Universe' EP, D&B soldier Jaydan is back on S.P.Y's DARKMTTR imprint with two absolutely howling floor-shakers. 'Body Movin' feels tailor made for massive rigs. Cavernous and dramatic, laced with tightly rolled percussion, it's a big cut as we build up towards the summer. 'Blinded' meanwhile is much more of a subversive creeper with its brassy stabs, jazzy vocal echoes and off-beat bass. Two stone cold cuts right here; Jaydan isn't playing around.

Breeze / Come True
Serial Killaz & Jaydan - "Breeze" - (4:28) 174 BPM Hot
Serial Killaz & Lumia - "Come True" - (4:50) 175 BPM
Review: Batten down the hatches! Serial Killaz return to their collaborative series Killa Kollective with another pair of stinky heaters, this time with friends Jaydan and Lumia. Potentially liable for false advertising, 'Breeze' exceeds its title by many gale force miles as it hits like a gully hurricane and knocks us off our feet. 'Come True', meanwhile, does hit with a fresh gust as the euphoric vocal and rising chords hit those feels with emotional intensity. Both hit the spot with precision. Like all good Killas should!

Funktion - (4:30) 174 BPM
Review: Soundboys duck and cover, Jaydan is on the loose and he's coming for you! 'Soundboy Killer' says it all; big hurricane bass swirls and slamming drums galore, these will flatten all soundboys in a 50 mile radius. Meanwhile, elsewhere on this crucial EP, we have the staccato grizzles of 'Tekky', the dreamier, laser-reaching wilds of 'When I Look At You' and the system-testing surge and sizzles of 'Funktion'. Sweet murderation!

Sacrifice - (4:30) 174 BPM Hot
Mainframe - (4:34) 174 BPM
Review: Jaydan puts on the charm for this beautiful two-tracker on his Smokin Riddims imprint. Showing off his sensitive, emotional side, both cuts here rumble with grace and effortless cosmic vibes. 'Sacrifice' rolls out with a glistening star-lit arpeggio and deep yearning, soul-searching vocal while 'Mainframe' takes us deeper into dancefloor territory while still retaining a sense of emotional pull thanks to the breathy vocals and a super euphoric breakdown. Jaydan, the man who definitely can!

Review: To celebrate the marking of their 100th official release, the New York-based masters of Digital Terror make their return with a system-slamming compilation box, exploring the full spectrum of new school drums. The project features 16 outstanding originals, ranging from the limb-twitching synth punches of 'Make Sure' from Stompz and lethal reese work of Sano's 'Blow Up', through to the metallic shreds of Spaow's 'Warning' VIP mix and Taxman's gut-busting return on 'So Good'. The team have assembled a collection of heavyweights for this latest outing, with the grinding bass curls of 'Heavy & Bad' from Harley D & the euphoria-inducing delights of Jayline & General D's 'Keep Moving' being our immediate standouts. It's a fiery collection to say the least, capable of turning the deadest of dances into an absolute zoo.

Review: Now here's an exciting union... Long time soldier Jaydan who usually flexes on the more jump-up side of the D&B sound is getting deep and heavy on S.P.Y's DARKMTTR. He's hitting all the right spots, too. Five slabs of utter fire, highlights include the sweeping, bass drama of 'Nobody Else', the high voltage bass lighting strikes and spacious steps of the title track 'Alternate Universe' and epic production and strongarm vibe on 'Hustler' where massive pneumatic kicks plunge us deep into the dancefloor and the breakdown whisks us up into the heavens. And that's the tip of this alternate iceberg.

Rastaman - (4:30) 174 BPM
All That Remains - (4:31) 175 BPM
Vibration - (4:31) 175 BPM Hot
Review: Following a huge March, which saw Jaydan drop three prominent releases on the likes of Rebellion, DRKMTTR and LoveThatBass, Jaydan returns to Serial Killaz with this firing four track blast-off. 'Snake Hips' flips between soaring sci-fi synths and a wrigglesome Serum-like riff that nags in your brain for days. It's backed by three more savage sessions: both 'Rastaman' and 'All The Remains' are your straight up booming 3am brock-outs while 'Vibration' flips the idea of a droning atonal bass with switch-ups into a staccato riff. Naughty naughty hip-shaking business.

Creeper (feat Dilligent Fingers) - (4:30) 58 BPM
Anger - (4:30) 174 BPM Hot
Review: Lurking in shadows, ready to pounce, Jaydan strikes hard once again. 'Creeper' is your classic Smokin Riddims number; stripped back to the bare bones, loaded with a venomous bassline and topped with stern vocal dynamic from one of Manchester's most versatile talents - Diligent Fingers. It's backed by more dark energy as 'Anger' follows. Tense, sweeping and laced with danger, Jaydan hits the bullseye once again. Only sleepers miss this 'Creeper'.

Iron Fist Audio VIP's

Ironlung - "Shaolin" - (3:44) 175 BPM
Damage Report - "Monster" - (4:45) 175 BPM
Review: Iron Fist is an appropriate name for the label behind this collection of VIPs and, listening through them, you can hear why. This release is a solid envelope of four tunes which demonstrate a serious understanding of jump-up's nastier end, the type of jump-up which some hate but which inspires a passionate love for the genre in others. Jaydan's VIP of Say Nothing is the best example of this, its pointed, jagged-edged basslines are cutting and penetrating at the same time, snappy drums lie underneath and the whole tune is packaged with effortless finesse. Check out the others for some of the hardest-hitting D&B around.

Played by: Johnnypluse, DJ Hybrid
Review: Killaz by name, killer by nature; Vital Elements and Tobie Scopes' continue to set the agenda as DJs, artists and as label owners. This third annual mix-up is certainly no exception as they plough through 59 tracks - many of which are brand new exclusives - to paint a picture of exactly where drum & bass is at right now. A thick smelly melting pot, everything is thrown into the mix: Upgrade's spine-trembling harmonics on "The Voice", ruded-out bassline badness from Voltage ("My DJ"), various jump-up hybrid creepers from Russian newcomer Ozma, brand new dark wobble lava from Serial Killaz themselves ("Rudebwoyz") the list goes on and on. This is a huge package and it comes with a superb mix too. Treat yourselves or defeat yourselves.

Review: Jaydan has become firmly entrenched within the new school of jump-up, his dirty tones being present at raves up and down the UK as well as across the channel. This is the first instalment in a new EP series and it shows off his credentials properly, as he's roped in T>I, Serial KIllaz and more for a remix-heavy release. We especially love the T>I remix of 'Dark World', which is just pure attitude encapsulated in a 170 beat and some basses. 'Jaydan himself smashes it on his own remix of 'Outlaw', in a pummelling number that honestly doesn't seem like it gives any fucks. Banging stuff.

Review: Jaydan has become firmly entrenched within the new school of jump-up, his dirty tones being present at raves up and down the UK as well as across the channel. This single does things right - kicking off with 'Wind It Up' - which is just pure attitude encapsulated in a 170 beat and some basses. 'It' is a lighter note to finish on, a recognizable sample flung out over a luscious backdrop of wispy pads that gradually escalates into something a tad darker. A quality single with lots of variety.

In case you missed anything, these are just some of the many heavers, heaters and hurters that dropped throughout the year. Highlights include the toad-like bass and Spyda's iconic vocals on "Imitation Soundbwoy", the island charm and snaking rolls of Limited's "Sun", DJ Vapour's absolutely pummelling hardcore slap-about "Damage Your Sound" and Leaf's other-planetary freak-out "Night Time Vultures." Danger & Jack The Ripper - "Time To Die" (Ironlung remix) - (3:47) 175 BPM
Review: Jaydan is a well-known name these days, having been smashing the jump-up circuit for a number of years across the UK. Ironlung isn't quite as prolific but that doesn't stop him from making massive tracks and the pair of them have collaborated on two remixes that make for a wicked EP. Jaydan is on remix duties with 'Makes You Wonder' and it's made us wonder how he packs so much sheer energy into his synth lines and the clarity he composes throughout the range is properly sick. Ironlung jumps on 'Time To Die' with ease, getting straight to it with a quickfire intro that descends into a hellishly aggressive mash of bass synths of varying persuasions. Sick release this.

Review: In terms of legendary status for labels over on the jungle/jump-up side of the scene, it's pretty hard to beat Serial Killaz. Run by the duo of the same name, the imprint has arrived with the second instalment of their mixtape series and it's unsurprisingly good. Full of big tunes from guys like Serial Killaz themselves, Vital Elements and Upgrade, it's the latter of these guys that takes the cake with 'Steel Drum'. You've probably heard this one doing the rounds and it's actually already been released, but oh boy what a tune this is: a screaming, siren-lake mash of grating metallic synths and punching drums all come together to make an unstoppably good piece of music. Don't sleep on the rest of these tunes though, and a special mention goes to DJ Hybrid's 'Beatbox' - naught jungle vibes.

Underworld does things right - kicking off with 'Empty World' - which is just pure attitude encapsulated in a 170 beat and some basses. 'Badman Tune' earns its name with a wobbling sine that pushes up into another and 'Roast' is equally as badboy, stuttering jungle breaks masking a deeper sense of progression via a bouncing stab or two. 'Ways Of The Underground' is a lighter note to finish on, a recognizable sample flung out over a luscious backdrop of wispy pads that gradually escalates into something a tad darker. A quality EP with lots of variety.

Review: Smokin' Riddims long success can be linked to Jaydan's keen ear for balanced tracks, every track cuts a fine balance between, noisy, bouncing, rough and rolling and that means great dancefloor music. This new EP is a collection of co-labs, three of which are with the main man himself. 'Rubbish' is anything but, the aggressive track uses swaths and a stabbing bass to create an intense atmosphere. 'Good A Dead' uses jungle breakdowns in-between more modern drum patterns with grinding metallics and shadowy pads. '2049's rumbling bassline is the star of the EP.

Review: Fire in the hole! Jaydan continues his prolific cavalcade of crucialness with four more savage jams as he makes his long-overdue debut on Maji's Sweet Tooth. Big riff thunder pieces tailored for deep mix head-twisting, across the set we're kicked in the guts by the sandpaper riff on "Pagan Times", pushed into a deep hole with the anarchic atonal grit of "Snitch", our arms are ripped off as we salute too hard to the early Propaganda style "Tear It Down" and we skank ourselves to death with the ace jungle lash out "Run Da Riddim". Shots fired? Shots hired more like.

Review: Now in their third year of operations, Clawhammer continue to lay down outrageous dancefloor grit, this time with the highly influential Jaydan at the controls. Cooking up two crucial versions, it's another all-out screwface session: Dub Frequency's Noisia-referencing "My World" gets a murkier, grainier full-body assault while D Side's "Molotov" is exploded with a rawer bass texture and gallons more petrol. Pure fire.

Review: Strictly for the woken: Jaydan's back with some cold hard truth about the world we live in and how violent times call for violent sounds... "Priorities" is all about the broken glass funk, all spiked out and rasping, "It's On Fire" rides on a spooked out loop before switching to major arsonist mode with a Taxman level riff made of pure nasty, "Finish You Quick" ensures everyone in the area dies by laser bass while "Violent Nature" brings us to a fittingly gritty close with sounds so advanced, that we can only assume Jaydan's gone into the future and sampled from a great robot war. Big society bangers.

Review: SHOTS FIRED! Gun Audio continue their Reload series with another epic slab of forthright freshness from some of the most respected names in the game: From master craftsman OGs like Heist, Murdock, Rowney & Propz and Jaydan to unavoidable hurter heroes Turno to exciting new talents like Jaxx, Vacuum and Meladee, it's a premiership rollcall each packing a heavyweight punch. Highlights across the 23-strong collection include Jaydan's reverse-stringing, cat-strangling freak out on "Murdering Monster", the hornet bass shakes and switches of Jaxx's "Combinations" and the frog chorus on Blackley's "TMI" but that really is the tip of the most explosive V/A album Gun Audio have ever detonated. Review: Having taken us through his innermost fears on "Nightmare World", Jaydan fires up the boosters and flies us all the way to Venus for part of Low Down Deep's planetary series. We take off with the criminally simple three note bassline that cascades mischievously over a rough rolling break. We break through the earth's orbit and blaze through the stars with the 2005-flavoured distorted middy bass hook before being hurtled woozily in Venus's orbit with raw sandpaper bassline on "Shut It Down". The euphoric opener and major key, tripped-out reverse bass riff of "Frightening" mark the moment we land on the planet and party. Next stop...Uranus.

Review: Usually when someone invites us into their "Nightmare World" we'd usually decline. Not because of the nightmares but because it's scientifically proven that people talking about their dreams is the most boring thing ever. Jaydan is the exception to the rule; every tale he tells is barbed and loaded with suspense. This new four tracker is no exception. From the grizzly, bet-wetting bass and slight tripletty swing of "Scary Movie" right the way through the Public Enemy homage "1983", Jaydan's dreamtalk is better than most people's realtalk.

Highlights include the Mind Vortex style electricity of Shifta's "Deadfall" Leaf's skippy, twisted roller "Dis Style" and the abyss-level sub bass depth plunges on Upfront & Aesthetics' "Touch" but that's just a small selection of what's on offer here. Review: Discovered by the legendary DJ Hype, Leicester's Jamie Cope aka Jaydan's star is on the rise. The Smokin' Riddims main man has also released on labels like Innerground, Propaganda, Blueprint and Ganja Records: where he met Hype. It is grinding street level bass therapy on "Special Technique", its synth lead comes tearing through the speakers like a chainsaw cutting through metal while the relentless hum of the low frequency lurks beneath. The entertaining movie samples continue on "Words In Trouble" which sounds smooth and ethereal like an LTJ Bukem track for a bit, until that abrasive smash and buzz makes a return!

Review: Smokin Riddims head honcho Jaydan celebrates 10 years of professional D&B privateering (and probably just as many years as a fan before that) with his long-awaited debut album. If you?ve followed Jaydan or his label for so much as a minute, you?ll know that this was never going to be a straight-up banger collection. Quite the contrary; it?s his own personal document that pays homage to every aspect of the multiflorous genre with nods to all areas: dark SS-style rollers (?Follow The Rules?), emotional soully rollers (?Dreams?), hurricane Technimatic-level amen assaults (?The Moment?) and all-out shredders (?Bad Juju?) all play a role in this widescreen love letter to the game in which he continues to help carve. Decade Of Industry? Decade of industrial strength awesomeness more like?

Review: Jaydan is back to the grindstone again for another crack of the dancefloor whip, and the hardest working man in D&B is not letting up. Blasting to the fore with "Dark World", a bleaker, heavier sound emanates from the speakers, pushing more intensity than his usual dancefloor dashes. "Higher and Higher" is more like the man's usual dark-edged dancefloor filler, and "The Hard Way" begins with strings like a Hitchcock classic before launching into a full-on assault of bass and stepper beats. "Sensations" rounds off with a more technical approach, adding depth and weight to odd vintage film clips. Total smasher.

From the sci-fi synths of Mackie Gee's "Transmission" through the punishing rhythms of Jaydan's "Acid High" and Benns' "Disconnected" to the more classic sounds of Bladerunner's "Hot Steppa", there really is something for every discerning D&B fan here to chew on!

Empty Threats - (4:27) 175 BPM
Fear Nothing - (4:27) 175 BPM
Review: Jaydan and Upfront are a monstrous partnership. Both highly skilled in the heavy, show-stopping jump up dynamics, the pair complement each other perfectly. "Mirrors" is a composition of true contrast as the floaty ravey synths give way to a crude, potty mouthed bass lick. "Blow Out" lives up to its name with a vicious midrange bass lead that swipes and swathes with undiluted menace and neat switch ups on the fills. Further on we hit "Empty Threats", a track that swings with more of a triplet flavour and a much darker, deeper bass texture that groans ominously over the funky drum dynamic. "Fear Nothing" finishes the set on a stark steppy note. Armed with yet another concrete-ripping bassline, the real action can be found amid the subby bubbles on the fills. Heavyweight.

Review: With a plethora of artists to choose from, Volume 6 takes a look at the more experimental beings on Hype's roster, to interesting effect. Mob Tactics set the whole show in motion with Elephant Man in a dancehall-inspired club banger cut with insane bass and high-stress sound effects. Total Recall makes an appearance in the Eastern-influenced "Ethnic Origins", taking jump-up to new heights. Playaz favourite Survival adds a trademark neuro touch to fastmoving breaks and eerie atmospherics, and Jaydan show's a sensitive side with the crisp, rolling "She's Heaven". A mature sound from the Playaz crew.

From not so humble beginnings at Propaganda and Blueprint back in the day, he's back on Playaz, showing Hype what he can do with a big squelchy bassline and techy, futuristic beats. This EP shows a real progression in his sound, from the huge rumbling energy of "Lonely Days" to the sneaky speakeasy jazz sampling of bassy stepper"1952", it's obvious that our man is looking to broaden his horizons. And why not? When you've got the talent, no genre's gonna hold you back. There are still the big dancefloor destroyers you expect, but they're interesting and more experimental. He's on fire right now.

Review: A couple of smoldering jump up bangers here from Renegade on the Smokin Riddims imprint as he teams up with Jaydan for "Dead People" and goes solo for "Late Night Flex". "Dead People" starts out as it means to go on with eerie sweeping atmospherics, stuttering beats and grimy mid range mayhem. Showing off both producers skills to huge effect, this is definitely one to bring to the dance. Accompanying cut "Late Night Flex" harks back to jungle while looking to contemporary D&B in a glorious fusion of styles.

Review: Having brought us some excellent re-workings in the past two installments of The Flavours series, part three has yet more treats in store from the ineffable Playaz camp. First up is Basher's remix of the legendary DJ Hype track "Peace, Love & Unity" - the soundtrack for a whole generation of junglists. Next is Jaydan's "Back Here (feat. Mia Sylvester)" with its progressive house-esque intro and grinding mid range and searing snares. Then it's over to Shimah for "Origin Of The Cave" - another more stripped back, spaced out venture before jump up reigns supreme again in "Coming In Stealth". Sub Zero's "Digital Blues" shows another side of the producer on a lilting, liquid vibe, before the low-slung splendor of Rewind's "Hunts Her Down".

First up is a delectable re-interpretation of massive 2011 hit "Food Fight" which draws out the vocal and juxtaposes it with grizzled bass. Next is "Alaska (VIP)" which is a glorious, fast-paced explosion of sound, and special mention must be made of the wonderful "Casino" VIP by Original Sin plus mid noughties classic "Robocop" which is updated by Taxman. Review: An attempt to steal the crown from Shy FX and his Diary Of A Digital Soundboy, Origins Of A Rudeboy takes D&B back to its roots with rattling amens, driving gunshot stabs and pummelling bass in abundance in "Deception". Next up is nostalgia filled "Original Rudeboy", with jungle chirrups, a snaking b-line, ragga vocal and clapping beats calling the shots. "Big Dog" changes the tone with tense discordant strings and hissing hi-hats. Falling into a thunderous growling drop with gruff, barking breaks and a Heist-like patina, it's a gnarly one before Jaydan finishes up with an ode to Goldie's legendary institution with "Reece Headz". Expect the classic reece bassline and melancholy instrumentals of Metalheadz but with Jaydan's je ne sais quois.
