Last Nite - (6:12) 120 BPM Hot
This Time - (5:32) 120 BPM
Played by: Jayl Funk
Review: Athens-based JB Boogie steps up with two very serviceable slices of contemporary disco here. 'Last Nite' is a fusion of 70s disco and house styles - it opens with a rolling piano riff redolent of US garage, then introduces parping trumpets, fluttering Latin-style guitar and, eventually, sumptuous soaring strings, with a fat n' squelchy bass-led breakdown in the middle. As such, it'd work on dedicated disco or soulful/funky house floors alike, while 'This Time' falls more obviously under the nu-disco umbrella, sporting as it does the kind of shimmering synths we've come to associate with the likes of Ilija Rudman or Sare Havlicek.

Funky Light EP
Black Gold - (5:07) 119 BPM
Lovin' Feelin' - (6:26) 115 BPM
Funky Light - (5:54) 115 BPM
The Groove - (5:53) 120 BPM Hot
Review: Fresh from an energetic, funk-fuelled outing on Spincat Music, JB Boogie returns to Hot Digits for the first time in 12 months. Plenty will be impressed by flash-fried opener "Black Gold", a wall-of-sound carnival disco number smothered in gnarly funk-rock guitar solos, spacey synths and bold piano riffs, while the filter-sporting "Lovin Feelin" is an excellent interpretation of what sounds like a treacle-rich, early '80s disco-boogie gem. Elsewhere, "Funky Light" is a slightly more hard-wired, soul-fired peak-time synth-boogie number guaranteed to set pulses racing, while "The Groove" is a horn-toting disco-funk stomper that sounds capable of setting peak-time dancefloors alight.

Magic Touch
Magic Touch (original mix) - (5:09) 110 BPM
Review: Since launching last autumn, Russian imprint Mango Sounds has offered up a string of must-check EPs from some of the nu-disco scene's most stellar talents, including C Da Afro, HP Vince and Ziggy Phunk. Here they add another rising star to their roster via a single-track salvo from sometime Spa In Disco, Thunder Jam and Springbok regular JB Boogie. "Magic Touch" is, we think, a re-edit, with JB Boogie making merry with what sounds like a slick, mid-80s electrofunk number packed to the rafters with busy slap-bass, each-laden drum machine beats, ear-pleasing synth stabs and some seriously fluid keyboard solos. The whole thing is deliciously summery and sounds ace when the sun's shining.

Boogie Airlines EP
Somebody - (5:56) 105 BPM
Show My Love - (5:20) 120 BPM
Feeling - (6:06) 118 BPM
Alright - (5:55) 120 BPM
Alright (Fingerman Boogie Beatdown) - (7:32) 120 BPM Hot
Review: Strap yourself in and prepare for take-off: "Boogie Airlines" is ready to take flight with captain JB Boogie at the controls. There's a party going on aboard, with the label-hopping producer-turned-pilot delivering a scintillating soundtrack of disco-fired dancefloor treats. The cabin crew is dancing in the aisles to the rolling disco-funk heaviness of "Sometimes", while the slap-bass propelled hustle of "Show My Love" - a pitched up peak-time take on a Goldie Alexander classic - is tastier than the in-flight food and twice as salty. The jazzy disco sweetness of "Feeling" and the horn-fired synth boogie business of "Alright" follow, before co-pilot Fingerman takes the controls to deliver a pumped-up "Boogie Beatdown" take on the latter jam

People Love To Dance - (5:49) 125 BPM Hot
I'll Be Good - (6:09) 122 BPM
Feel It - (5:45) 118 BPM
Review: Like his good friend and sometime studio buddy C Da Afro, J.B Boogie is firmly focused on good-times grooves and unfussy re-edits that put the demands of the dancefloor above all other considerations. They'll be plenty of smiling faces in the club if you drop the title track of his latest EP, a chunky, filter-sporting revision of an AOR disco/Balearic classic rich in blue-eyed soul vocals, Latin-tinged grooves, headline-grabbing bass and Flamenco guitar flourishes. He quickly switches focus on "I'll Be Good", a deliciously driving and low-slung rework of a heavy swamp funk workout blessed with hazy, ear-catching vocal samples and cut-glass disco strings, before whipping off his top and slinging his arms aloft via soaring disco re-edit "Feel It".

Feel My Life - (5:47) 109 BPM Hot
Together (guitar mix) - (5:13) 115 BPM
Bad Disco Lady - (5:15) 124 BPM
Review: Grecian producers C Da Afro and J.B Boogie first joined forces last year, releasing an E.P of filter-heavy disco/house fusions on SpinCat Records. Here, the Athens-based duo delivers more similarly celebratory, party-ready fare for Midnight Riot. They begin with the rolling, 109 BPM goodness of "Feel My Life", a delicious fusion of sparkling synths, glittery guitar lines, smooth vocals and head-nodding grooves. "Together (Guitar Mix)" craftily turns a lesser-known, mid-tempo boogie jam into a guitar and synth solo-laden, eyes-closed monster. Best of all, though, is the shirts-off pomp of "Bad Disco Lady", which gains much of its dancefloor power thanks to the combination of extended, filter-laden breakdowns and notable drops.
