V/A
Review: The latest split release on Analogue isn't designed for the faint-hearted. Dax J's "Ares" gets the EP off to an intense start. Powered by the hardest drums this side of Synewave, there is some relief in the form of the moody house organ that is woven through the arrangement. On "Kal", Kaiser dispenses with musical elements in favour of a relentless tribal rhythm - like a high-paced take on vintage Octave One. Meanwhile, ANFS' "Amete" is centred on a brooding, ebm-style bass and cavernous sound design. Maintaining the same energy but utilising a different approach is Jerm's "Kaki", a pounding rhythm track.

V/A (Perc + Remco Beekwilder + UVB + Jerm)
Review: For its twelfth release, the revered Analogue imprint drops a split EP. Sounding like a who's who of hard techno, it gets off to an intense start with the distorted, jarring riffs and pummelling kicks of Perc's "Skinner". It's a hard act to follow, but Remco Beekwilder rises to the occasion, with the Dutch DJ delivering the harsh metal drum-led "Dominance". Uvb's "Gun and Run" isn't as intense, but it does resound to an ominously powerful bass that hits hard. Rounding out this fine release is Jerm with "Flesh Hoover". With a focus on high-paced kicks and a swung rhythm, it's as funky as it is intense.

Electric City EP (Inc. Manni Dee Remix)
Review: Electric City may be Jerm's debut release on Soma, but this fast-rising producer impresses with a hard-hitting, industrial EP. "Control Theory" is a dense, looped track that resounds to a pulsating electronic bass, while on "Glass Chin", he picks up the pace and intensity levels to deliver a pounding, peak-time track littered with deft drops and builds. "Maiden Voyage" isn't as visceral, but it does see the Greek producer fuse splintered shards of electronic noise with ghoulish samples, while "Booze Cruise" is a tough, stomping affair, in the Joey Beltram mould. Rounding off this fine debut is Manni Dee's pounding take on "Control Theory".
