Review: UK label Hot Gorilla reach the terrible twos and celebrate with a 10-track compilation that's packed with fine contemporary disco, funk, soul and boogie vibes. If you're looking for highlights, then Havana Hustlers' opener rocks a b-line that somehow manages to recall both 'Lovely Day' and 'Boogie Nights', Fray Bentos makes great use of a classic Afrika Bambaataa sample on 'Stormy Nights', while Andy Buchan's 'The House That Funk Built' plunders Aretha to equally powerful effect and Solazz's 'Blaze The Party' is a boogie-tastic delight. But there are six more quality jams where those came from, from Even Funkier's Patrice Rushen-biting 'Those Were The Times' to the jazz-funk inflections of Shalvoy's 'Beautiful2Strangers'.

Review: Happy eighth birthday to Hot Digits, who are celebrating their anniversary with this superb collection of contemporary disco, funk and boogie slammers. With a whopping 30 tracks to choose from there's obviously no room here to go into them all one-by-one, but with cuts ranging from the smooth jazz-funk of 'George's Groove' to the unabashed filter disco euphoria of 'Cuz I'm Naked', and from the fat-ass slap bass of 'We're Gettin' In' to cheeky Loleatta-referencing disco-houser 'Dub Sensation', there's evidence a-plenty here, should any be required, that Hot Digits do this kind of tackle better than most.

Regular visitors to this page should need no introduction to the respected London-based label, and with the album packing a whopping 26 tracks, there's certainly no space to give you a full blow-by-blow rundown: suffice to say that whether you're a fan of sparkling boogie nouveau, sumptuous string-drenched disco, deep 'n' groovy house, headnoddin' Balearica or any combination thereof, this is a comp you're gonna want to check for. Review: The title here pretty much says it all, as Midnight Riot serve up a 20-track 'best of' collection that's replete with quality disco- and boogie-inspired house nuggets. There's no room here to go into all the tracks one-by-one, but highlights for this reviewer include Danny Kane's 'Pop Goes The Cherry', which bites Ruby Turner's 90s classic 'Never Ever Gonna Give You Up', and 'Sheroes' by the heavy-hitting Manc double-act of Massey & Paulette - think Daft Punk's 'Teachers' but for people with two X chromosomes. Review: Over the course of his action-packed career to date, Jet Boot Jack has flitted between funk-fuelled, disco-tinged house and excitable, party-starting re-edits. On this EP for Masterworks Music, he combines the two things, delivering re-edits with added beats and sounds that will surely never fail to get dancefloors moving. First up is 'Call of the Wild', a bouncy, housed-up affair that seemingly draws on elements from Afrobeat, Italo-disco and disco-funk cuts. He follows this with the beefed-up, peak-time disco strut of 'I Ain't Asking', before putting his stamp on a deeper, Brazilian-sounding disco-funk number full of slap bass, jaunty piano riffs and jazzy guitars. Like much of the rest of his work, the groove underpinning the track is thickset, bass-heavy and undeniably weighty.

Review: Birdee is a rising star of the nu-disco and re-edit scenes, so it makes perfect sense that Bomb Strikes has recruited him to curate and mix the latest volume in their excellent Disco Funkin' compilation series. As you'd expect, it's a thoroughly and joyous affair, rich in colourful synth sounds, funky disco basslines and beats that flit between housed-up heaviness and more organic-sounding, less pumped-up grooves. There are tons of essential cuts amongst the 25 unmixed tracks on show, with highlights including the sun-bright rush of Pete Herbert's remix of Da Chick's 'Chick a Boom', the crunchy Clavinet-sporting disco-funk of Shaka Loves You's 'Let's Move (SLY Disco Rub)', the slick French Touch style warmth of Birdee's own 'Thinking About You' and Ray Mang's celebratory revision of Smoove & Turrell's 'Do It'.

Review: Unlike many of its rivals, Fingerman's Hot Digits label doesn't fill its' obligatory annual compilation with back catalogue cuts. Instead, we're offered a vast number of previously unheard re-edits, remixes and original productions. It's a successful blueprint and one religiously adhered to on Hot Digits: Year Seven, the popular imprint's latest must-check collection. There's not enough room to single out every sonic highlight, but our current favourites include the breezy boogie squelch of Ross Fitz's 'I Miss Your Love ('85 Mix)', the driving deep house haziness of Fingerman and Henri Le Blanc's 'Leave Your Cares Tonight', the neo-trance cheeriness of Picklejam's 'Endorphin Situation' and the stab-happy, peak-time house retro-futurism of 'The Feeling' by Downunder Disco.

Mark Brickman & Yam Who's superb Vanessa Jackson-sung, disco-styled Praise Cats cover gets the ball rolling, the unmistakable tonsils of Kenny Bobian lend an authentically evangelistic feel to 'I Shall Not Be Moved', Yam Who? reappears in tandem with Brian Lucas on a cover of James Ingram's 80s soul classic 'Yah Mo' B There', prolific re-editor Jet Boot Jack gets busy on 'The Gospel According To Jack', and so it goes on... the devotional lyrics may be a bit much for some, admittedly, but if that's not an issue there's much to enjoy here.

Review: Two years have passed since the last Masterworks Music label compilation, so this fourth volume is long overdue. It's another expansive affair, with boss man Danny "80s Child" Worrall offering up no less than 20 exclusives from a mixture of label regulars and new recruits. As you'd expect, there's much to enjoy, with highlights including the rubbery and celebratory disco goodness of Surgery Edits' 'Get Up and Boogie', the hazy house pleasure of Dirtytwo's 'Desire', the string-laden peak-time rush of Chris Grubinza's 'Feel The Rush', the revivalist 80s boogie brilliance of Slync and Evie Adams' 'Fantasy', and the wonderfully loved-up 80s soul-meets-nu-disco warmth of Paper Street Soul's 'Fwok!'.
