Review: The second installment of the various artist EP from Soul Deep focuses in, unsurprisingly perhaps, on the deeper side of D&B with some soulful, jazzy and darker flavours thrown in across the eleven-track selection. Opening cut "Live The Dream" by Jam Thieves gets things started with sparse, ticking beats and the faintest of piano shimmies, and so we are taken through such moments as the upbeat chiming tones of Integration Now - "Everybody" and echoing vocals of Soul Connection - "Baby". Obscure takes things on a slightly darker tip in "Renaissance", which draws the EP to a close.

Review: Manchester's thriving drum & bass scene is showing no sign of slowing up, and why would it? With some of the most promising new artists pitching up in the city as well as established figures maintaining the Northern end, folks like Jinx and K Jah are in good hands. The Sub-Woofah crew's events have been a mainstay in the D&B and jungle hubs around the country, so off the back of that deep knowledge of the scene they've created a label that taps into what the ravers want. As you'd expect then, from the '90s breaks of "Can't Think" to the huge bass wobble of "Unity Rollers", this is a release that perfectly sums up the feel of a jungle/D&B clubnight right now. Big sounds for big soundsystems.

High energy riddims from the start, this is a no-holds-barred assault on the ears; neck-snappingly good and heavy enough to bring the house down. Mashing jump-up, neuro and jungle, "Everything" is a decent mixture of everything you love about current D&B with a nasty badboy streak that'll get you into trouble. Roof-raising stuff - just don't blame Jinx for the resulting damage.

Review: Time to pay homage to some of the greatest junglists in the biz for a lovely little detour into each of their mindsets. "Fall In Love" itself is a beauty of a track - with Eva Lazarus referencing Althia and Donna and the horns blowing pure heat there's a true dancehall vibe sizzling. First up to give it the remix treatment are Dope Ammo and Marvellous Cain who add their fun and fire twist with a hard edged drop switched into that winding bassline to send crowds wild. Mr Benn picks up the tune for its final remix and adds his own reggae vibes, swapping those dark dancefloor sounds for sunshine and tropical funky bass. Versatility and vibes - what more do you want?

Review: Returning to Ruffneck Ting with another superb solo artist EP is the supremely talented workaholic wizard, Jinx. This selection aims to take us all on a sonic journey, "fully charged with planet shaking bass" according to the official words, so we can solemnly swear that it's up to no good. "Men Are From Mars" picks up and destroys instantly, rolling out hard and setting the standard for "Lost Time", which loses the cosmic sounds and gets elbow deep in some seriously soulful stepping material. "Energy" bounces back some vibes inthe place complete with warp-speed tempo, sirens and turbo-charged War Of The Worlds horns. Finally, "People" sets the phasers to "move that ass" as subs, smooth vocals and a marching beat work together in a conspiracy to get dancefloors shaking. You ready?

Review: Brummie bass-whipper goes on a co-lab crusade for his latest Ruffneck Ting EP. "Get Busier" sets the tone with syrupy bass that oozes and stretches over his robust drum work. A triptych of tag-team jams ensues: Vytol takes K Jah to deeper corners of the dance with a stripped back stepper that's reminiscent of Break or perhaps S.P.Y's early material, Ruffneck Ting queen Dazee adds a little bounce with the Urban Takeover-style "Dig This" before Jinx joins the fray for the heaviest hitter of the collection: "We're Rolling" sums up K Jah, Jink and Ruffneck Ting's spirit with a ballsy, scuffy Moving Fusion-flavoured dynamic that wouldn't have gone amiss in 1998. Powerful.

Review: Asbo and sister imprint Anti-Social collide to curate the ultimate break compendium: 26 of both label's strongest tracks (and, let's face it, all their releases are pretty hefty) here we find ourselves smacked by the ageless amen magic (Ricky Tuff's remix of the classic "Stamina"), iced out by sudden synth blasts (Westy's "Jungle Law"), massaged by abyssal subs (Cloak's "Stereo") and given nonstop nightmares by the dark designs of Sterling Sound's "Predator". Other highlights include the paranoid stretches and bends of Durban's "Dark Room" and Symptom's neuro-slapper "Transmission". Trust us; this collection isn't messing around.

Review: Longstanding ragga-enthused jungle mischief-maker Jinx supersizes the EP concept on Ruffneck Ting. Ranging from classic jungle rolls and amen-shattering magic of "Wicked" to mid-'90s "Chopper"-style roll-outs ("Stick Up") via dubbed out sub-drenched steppers a la Potential Badboy ("Sticks & Stems") and absolute skank savagery ("Rebelution"), he shows off the many gully feathers in his cap with style and consistency. This is such a massive body of work, in fact, that in most people's eyes it would be considered an album not an XL-sized EP. To put it simply, you'd be crazy not to investigate this.

Review: Make no mistakes: Ruffneck Ting are smashing it on a whole new level this year! Bombarding the game with beat after beat, barely a month has gone by with a Ruffneck roll-out session. The Xtraordinary League Of Junglists takes this proliferation to a whole new level with 20 killer cuts from some of the label's firmest friends and family. Every cut is a highlight but you'd be off your nut not to check the clinically obese classical mid-90s jump up bass of "War", the sprung-out Bingo bounces of "All 2 Myself", the piano-slapping feel good rave workout "All Through The Night" or the dubbed-out trickery of "Hazey Dub". Need we go on? Ruffneck Ting have been on this ting since dot and they're rolling out some of their finest right here. Essential.

Review: Murderation: Ruffneck Ting affiliate ventures north for a supreme selection on Dawn Raid's vibe-conjuring Hocus Pocus imprint. It's big belly business from the off as "Final Duel" does the 187 wobble with a crafty sample and fat-arsed b-line. "Break It" throws a little soul in the mix as the vocals ghost in and out over late 90s Die-style groove and "Time Is Now Believe" is a real soul-arrester, drift-out track with layers of pure space-gazing elements. Finally "Replay" brocks the heck out with some serious classical riff dynamics that instantly nod at the Movement days. Heavily authentic.

Review: 48 tracks? Asbo you are truly spoiling us. The quality is as high as the quantity too; a selection of Asbo classics and brand new flavours we're taken from smooth silky rolling soul such as Westy's "Making Moves" and jazzy V-style thunder like Savannah's "Glide Away" to hurricane amen depth (Dawn Raid, Gold Dubs & Jinx - "Old Fashioned") and classic mid 90s style jump-up ruffage (Cabin Fever's remix of "Raw Dogs") via warm-as-toast dub soul a la Vinyl Junkie & Sanxion's "Talk Too Much" and Daffy's beautiful "Love Dub". And that's only an eighth of killer cuts on here. Easily one of the best tenners a junglist can invest this month.
