Review: Intrigue is one of the most consistent liquid labels in a drum and bass scene which has a conspicuous absence of high-quality, indie liquid imprints relative to the rougher side of things. This is their yearly album and it's on an astounding 18th year, a monumental achievement that is marked this time around with nineteen top quality cuts. Soulmotion's 'Moments of Blue' is a highlight, with a sumptuously deep back end that swells and swells to luxurious effect, as tinkling piano notes flutter through the top lines in nonchalant fashion. Label boss Ben Soundscape steps up for a remix of Raw Q's 'NY State of Mind', an Intrigue classic that he strips back and rolls out, with a supremely crisp set of drums that underpin a simple but sleek bassline. There are more cuts from Joakuim, whose halftime exploration takes him to deep depths, and The Insiders & Mutt, who get funky and old school with their liquid sounds. Sick stuff.

Review: It's been an interesting year for French Mexican Joakuim. He's appeared on Intrigue's on-point 16 year collection and even released a techno EP on Planet Rhythm. Now we see him return to Fokuz with a rich spread that covers his musical range. Both "Mandala" and "Party Outside" take us deep into dark rolling territory with a prominent techno feel. Dig deeper for the flip of his sonic sensibilities as "South West Road" rockets us up into the stars on a soaring emotional rocket while "Night" ends on a dubby reflective tip. No stones left unturned, Joakuim never fails.

Review: The fourth instalment in this year's Intrigue Music album is here and it features some of the best in the game. These albums always combine liquid sultriness with a harder edge, and if you like your old school rollers with a balance of light, dark, fast and furious, this EP will certainly be for you. Random Movement is one those present and boy, he's nailed this one. In his own usual style, "Paw Prints' is delightfully earthy with a synthy vibe that still feels organic and natural, topped off with a lovely vocal sample that just ripples out over the tune. Joakuim comes in with the other highlights, a calibre-esque hypnotic combination of rising synths and sweeping pads. Gorgeous stuff.

Review: Best known for his drum'n'bass work, Joakuim Plossu now takes a sideways turn with this release on the long-established techno imprint Planet Rhythm. "View" starts the release in deep, dubbed out mode, with the French producer conjuring up a wonderfully esoteric sound scape over stripped back beats, while on "Resonance", he teases out a buzzing, acid-heavy groove that rolls gently. The title track has a more visceral edge, albeit one that glides and rolls with beautiful dub chords in the background, while on "Hear That" this unusual, idiosyncratic release sees Plossu dive into Chain Reaction/ Basic Channel mode with a stepping, layered workout.

Review: Fokuz Recordings consistently release some of the best compilation albums around. Their pool of artists is so diverse and so top quality that an assortment of their work is always going to be special, especially when they bring in outside talent like Break and Zero T. Collaborations 2 is what is says on the tin: remixes and other collaborative projects and blimey, it's good stuff. Joakuim's '8am Roller' is the perfect example, a deft piece of piano-based smoothness that rolls out to your heart's content with sultry results, an instant classic of liquid-sized proportions. The Break remix is a welcome addition, as is the steppy yet soulful Zero T remix of Ben Carlos. Another very, very good selection of cuts from the always sublime Fokuz crew.

Review: The dust still settling from his remarkable debut album Des Fleurs earlier this year, Mexican in Paris Joakuim continues his stunning vein of form with a debut on Doc Scott's 31. The titles hide no surprises; "Funk As You" does indeed carry a strong groove, but does so with a much more outer planetary, sci-fi context. Deliciously deep and long, there's a touch of Klute to the spacious introspection here. "Cosmos Dub" flips for a rocksteady halftime vibe. Cased in dubspace and a palpitating heartbeat kick, this is a straight up one-way ticket to Infinity. Bon voyage.

Review: Soundia & Plastiks' Blackhill Production imprint has been steadily sculpting a stark sound and MO for nearly six years, consistently excavating deep, restrained and futuristic constructions. Home to a rising new breed of acts such as Larigold, Not Guilty and Joakuim, they run a seriously tight game and this new V/A collection is proof. Highlights include the pure bass elasticity on Inertia's "Sun Rize", Kjubi's sweeping grumbles and flighty breaks on "Stitches", the deep space soul and subtle triumph of Larigold's "Born Ready" and the continuum-ripping grit of Not Guilty's finale "Duality". Review: Consistently fresh: Intrigue slide into the new year with two beautiful slabs of deepness from two familiar faces to the label - Joakuim and Lurch. Lurch rides solo on the dangerous, jungle-minded "Rudeboys". With its far-away horn and flute sample over sub-laden breaks, there's a cool air of Future Cut to proceedings as we dig deeper and deeper into the molten step groove. "Thoughts Of You" sees the pair combining forces with a delicate dusty old sample where pianos lilt and flutter around woozy horn textures. Stunning.

Review: Club night-turned-label Intrigue has been part of the Bristol drum & bass landscape since 2003, and continues to lead the way for those who like their junglism jazzy, deep and attractive. To celebrate their 13th birthday, they've put together this rather fine anniversary compilation. There's plenty to admire throughout, with local lad Break's previously unseen "Winter Rain" - all jazzy breakbeats and twinkling keys - proving an early highlight. Veteran Bristolian and frequent early party guest Lurch delivers some thrillingly experimental flavours on "Tangents", while resident DJs and label bosses The Insiders get in the celebratory mood on two tasty tracks. Fittingly, the set finishes with Joakuim's "Cenzontle", which is little less than a classic chunk of liquid D&B gold.
