Review: Next up from Strictly House And Garage, the crew continue their hot streak of top quality UKG drops, this time welcoming founder Skillz back into the mix, alongside the ever-ready powerhouse skills of Joedan, for a fiery two track display. First up, a funky-influenced bop by the name of 'Love Dub', a truly smokey display of quirky percussive grooves and tightly woven drum sounds, giving us a good vibe from the jump. Next to this, 'Roll To The Dance' puts a strong focus on warbling sub lines and clunky percussion for a more old school feeling, giving us a nicely balanced A/B selection to play with.

Review: It's always a good time when the Pond Life Party team come to town, this time inviting the enigmatic Joedan inside for 5 original stompers, entering with the gnarly wobbling basslines switches and shuffling shakers of 'How Much', setting the tone quite directly for the rest of the project. Next, Styn & Kontent join the parade as we dive into the swampiest textures out there in 'Roll Up', closely followed by a surprise Window Kid appearance on 'Ratty', a dizzying dubstep original. Styn & Kontent then return for a second appearance, this time on the grinding low ends and intricate rhythmic twists of 'Doe Or Die', with 'Wavey Levelz' then giving us a final taste of original dubstep flavour as a cascade of LFO-driven bass manipulations are let loose atop a moody backdrop.

Review: Sheffield's Strictly House & Garage crew have not only been putting on an incredible collection of live events, but also supplying the scene with some of its freshest UKG material, as we can see here on this first edition of their new 'Slammers' compilation series. First up, label owner Skillz delivers a groovy 4x4 stonker, manipulating vocals all over the place, before J.S.D. gives the famous 'Heads High' vocal a tidy garage rethink. The sounds of Jay Ward then move into play as 'What Can I Say' gives us a much more stripped back garage original, focussing on pleasing chord progressions and more top quality vocal sampling, before Joedan arrives with the lo-fi drum licks and super bouncy rhythms of 'Rough Affair'. He sticks around for the next track as well as S3 Dubs gives 'Sunny Vibes' a typically vibrant re-design, focussing in on moody bass tones and vocal dub delays, before we finish our journey on 'Forever V.I.P', which sees Local Dubz deliver our personal highlight from this stacked selection.

Review: When a sound or style has been around for over two decades, there are two things a young producer can do with it: they can add their own twist, taking the sound in new directions, or they can stick faithfully to the original blueprint, proving they have the chops to compete with their first-generation forebears. This collection from Strictly House And Garage features 13 brand new speed garage and two-step cuts from as many artists, pretty much all of whom have chosen the latter route - it's been 20 years since this writer held down a UK garage residency, but when I heard this album it felt like five minutes ago! Excellent work all round.

Review: The Project Allout wave continues to gain in momentum as they welcome back the incredibly consistent Joedan across four tracks of highly energetic and flavoursome dancefloor beats. We kick off with the post-funky influences and niche-style bassline influxes of the title track 'Impending Doom', before 'Chest Plate' strips things back for a carnival-ready drum roller. The vibes then switch up into a more experimental display next as the unusual bass manoeuvres of 'Lift Off' arrive to add some serious differentiation, before rounding up on tribal-sounding percussive influxes and simple melodies of 'Turned My Back', making it the perfect sign off!

Review: Now the team at ONEPUF are gaining quite the reputation for extracting the weird and wonderful out of the producers they work with. This latest third edition of their self-named compilation series is a perfect example of that as they welcome 8 producers who all bring something very different to the table. Epoch provides us with an amphibious roller with 'Understand', followed by Exit 99's very unusual moogy creation 'Lemon Acid'. Next, some techy breaks action on 'Flugel Dance' from Coldpast before Kobe JT & Tuff Tax hit us with some original UKG flavour. Joedan keeps us on the garage tip with 'Black Everything', followed by the jersey club style sounds of 'Swisha Drop' from Killjoy and high speed acid vibes of Zeed's 'Fish & Chips'. Finally, DJ BMW lets loose some original techno flavour with the unpredictable moog stabs of 'Reactor Core VIP', with Headchef's 'Alarming Regularity' providing us with the perfect outro for this momentous compilation.

Review: Following on from an extremely solid run of releases as the head of Project Allout, Skillzy unleashes a fantastic new selection under his new imprint 'Strictly House and Garage'. The line up is star-studded to say the least, welcoming UKG veterans such as Moony and Joedan leading the way, alongside heavyweight newcomers such as the extremely vibrant sounds of Weagle. There are a couple of serious stand outs on this one, with 'Don't Let Me Down' from Daze Prism providing a smooth 2-steppy box of delights, alongside YesEd's super high energy 'Steppin'. Lovely stuff

Review: The re-emergence of UKG continues to gain momentum as we bare witness to yet another fantastic selection here, this time arranged by Rare Supply and bearing the title 'Supply Drop, Vol. 1'. We kick off with a smooth and soulful collaboration between Higgo and Kyst Cortez entitled 'Same Way', followed by some super melodic explorations from man of the moment: Sammy Virji in 'Promise Me'. Next, we hear cracking originals from Dr. Oscillator with his wobbly roller 'Amnesia', Joedan with his nostalgic creation in 'That's Hot' and the return of the ever dependable Moony with the funky inspired rhythmic switches on 'Attica'. After that we see another fantastic return as Daze Prism unleashes his super groovy original 'Check', before Man Of Steel rounds up a phenomenal collection with the pleasing chord progressions and a jiggy drumwork of 'Crazy'.

Review: Here we see two heavyweights of the midland bassline scene team up again for a rolling single by the name of 'Out To The Bubblers', courtesy of the About The Music imprint. From the off we are introduced to some serious old school flavour as Joedan carves out a groovy UKG bassline hybrid over which Blenda gets to work with his tireless garage flows and party starting bar outs. We are also blessed with an exciting UKG edit of the track, which takes the groovy element to a whole nother level as the pair bounce off each other with great results.

Review: Shadowchild's label welcomes Joedan to the fold with this dance floor-friendly release. "Just A Feelin" revolves around detuned riffs, a driving rhythm and some tripped out vocals. It sounds like an update of releases on 90s deep house labels like Cross Section. The title track is more stripped back and takes influences from UK garage, with its crashing snares and relentless off-beat rhythm sounding like a tough, modern take on 2-step. Rounding off the release is "Barca". Once again, it sees Joedan shift approach, with ominous chords building and building over firing hi hats and lone bleeps. It all adds up to one of 2017's most impressive Eps that resides in the house /techno grey area.

Review: The promotional platform turned record label Simply Deep present a strong compilation of ten exclusive tracks for the imprint's debut outing. What once was simply a music promotion service is now branching into a larger operation for Simply Deep. Wishing to support talent where it is due, the label are on the constant lookout for new and aspiring artists who are making quality music, regardless of genre specifics. Highlights on their second label compilation include the dark and bass driven street level antics of Jordan's "Falling", the deep dubstep done to perfection (what a bassline!) on Chemist RNS - "Clubbin", the savage grime tendencies of KXVU's "Peak For You" and Opus & Loudcutta's paranoid and dystopian trip "Travella".

Review: Get Fluxed Volume III couldn't have come at a better time; the summer heat is out and these garage drums aren't exactly gonna play themselves now are they!? Featuring Martin McFly's infamous Nike spacers on the cover, this jam-packed comp of goodness features all of the label's biggest names and, of course, the creme-de-la-creme of UK house music. Sitting somewhere on the hardcore continuum between garage and breaks, the likes of Pharaoh K, Joedan, Pelikann and Krissi B, among others, set out what will surely be THE bass release of the summer in terms of DJ playback. This is the sort of gear you hear out on the beach at Pula's mighty Outlook festival. Sun's out, bass out.
