Review: Irish deep house hero John Daly (Feel Music) makes his debut on Scottish imprint Craigie Knowes with four quality grooves, following up some great ones on the label by Jensen Interceptor, Posthuman and Carl Finlow. The Safe EP features the dusty, crunchy old school emotions of "What If" with its chunky Juno bassline that's reminiscent classic Mr Fingers. The retro flavoured antics continue on the euphoric acid house vibe of the tile track, the sombre dub techno of "Moving On" and finally "For The Sake" goes for a faster tempo on this powerful piece that takes its cues from the hi-tech soul aesthetic of classic Detroit.

Review: Long-serving Irish producer John Daly wrote much of the music on "We Will Live Again", his fifth album under his given name, during an 18-month period in which he lost his father to cancer. The majority of the tracks apparently began life as fluid electronic soundscapes, with Daly adding drums and vocals (provided by fellow Irish singers and musicians) late in the process. It's a deeply personal and, unsurprisingly given its' inspiration, poignant affair, with a variety of live-sounding rhythms underpinning yearning chord progressions, spacey electronics, lilting melodies, dubbed-out soundascapes and tear-jerking electronic movements. It's a fine album, all told, and could well by Daly's strongest body of work to date.

Review: Layered, progressive, modern electronic music with ethereal harmonics and a nod to analogue forefathers is a universal in John Daly's musical cannon. And with Shine he's formulated a song that could encapsulate a moment in time at a Love Fever party. That 5am throb. Peaks and lows of a breather in the night, the sweating crowd, the stabbing bassline and fluctuating strings played loud and proud. Detroit influenced yet clearly contemporary, "Desake" floats through this release with a lead vocal stab weaved into a dream-like bassline and rolling drum pattern continuing where Shine left off. And "Journey's End" may well be the secret weapon on this EP, playing out like a bird's lament.

Review: Everything that comes from John Daly's studio is deeply soulful and melodic - and this release is no exception. The title track recalls the most ethereal strands of Detroit techno, with sweet, wispy melodies and warm, textured chords underpinned by dubby beats and crisp drums. The London label has chosen its remixer wisely and French producer Marcelus provides an expertly weighted version. Retaining Daly's woozy, dreamy textures, he keeps the track on a deeper path than some of his own productions. Yet at the same time, a skipping, metallic rhythm slices through Daly's melodies to keep the focus squarely on the dance floor.

Review: No frills, just the thrills. John Daly has always been a house music producer you can trust. This Solar Sailing single sees the Irish house icon deliver more of his synthy brilliance with three versions of the one track. First up is the Full Tide mix of "Solar Sailing", a production that makes you want to dance, but also contemplate the emotions your feelings thanks to the ethereal musicality of the production. The Deep Mix, as its title suggests, is a little dubbier and laid back, although equally rhythmic and danceable, while the Rhythm Section mix (also self explanatory) strips it back to just drums, a bassline and reverberating percussion.
