Review: A clutch of tracks from Mexico's Jona Saucedo and Joseph Terruel get the re-edit treatment from mystery producer(s) Para-Mu here. "Digital Soup" is the EP's most uptempo cut and could equally well be filed under slo-mo house, while elsewhere "False Dreams" is lazy, loop-y and druggy, "Fashion Show" is a haunted midnight cruise on Miami's Ocean Drive, "Beverly" has an 80s soul flava, "About U" nods to future R&B and "Sexy Mama" is low-slung and seductive. All told, it's a classy EP all round, and one to reach for when you want to slow things down a little on the dancefloor.
Review: Editorial's policy of giving their split EPs of edits and reworks a distinctive theme has always been a bit of a winner. Here, they return to the world of slo-mo, soul-flecked edits, with a quintet of sumptuous scalpel works for our delectation. 78 Edits impresses with the winding sax, horizontal bump and head-nodding grooves of "Meet Patti", while DJ Moar offers up a slinky, electric bass-driven ride into slow disco-house territory in the shape of the Rhodes-laden "King Bob". Hot Box and P-Sol both deliver heavily compressed, filter-sporting toe-tappers for those warm-up moments where you just want to get locked into the groove, while Jona Saucedo brilliantly combines dubbed-out modern soul vocals with an attractive loop from Fonda Rae's boogie classic "Touch Me".
Review: Mr Saucedo is a Mexican guy with a big thing for summery retro dance music. Here on his latest EP we get four tracks of warm and fuzzy re-edits of vintage club hits. Lifted from Kathi Baker's original, the title track "Feel The Love" reduces the speed and adds shimmering atmospherics for a Balearic sunset feel. "Music & Light" is, as you might imagine, a beefed-up re-work of the anthem by Brit-soul heroes Imagination. "Spring Affair" is a slo-mo take on Donna Summer's mid 70s classic, adding some Jan Hammer-style electronic toms for an 80s Miami rooftop party vibe. Finally on "Sexual Love", Saucedo plays with some saucy vintage movie dialogue and heavy use of disco filters to wrap things up in a light-hearted manner.
