120 BPM Review: Paris outpost Syncrophone facilitate this wondrous production partnership between Versatile boss Gilb'R and Jorge Velez, the New Jersey based artist whose fine music has graced the likes of Rush Hour and L.I.E.S. in recent months. Information on how the two came together is a bit thin on the ground, but it's evident Cohen and Velez have an intuitive studio understanding on the basis of their two original tracks here. "Du Lundi" is rich and playful house with skittering percussive touches and a definite sense of textural narrative. This is a production that breathes life as opposed to simply treading rhythmic water. It's blessed by a fine rework from Willie Burns that has set opener written all over it, whilst the other original production from Gilb'R and Jorge, "Drone", features the percussive skills of Shadi Khries.
