Review: Fresh from fine (if arguably a bit overlooked) outings onKenja, ORIGINS RCRDS and Snatch, Josh Butler returns to Kerri Chandler's Kaoz Theory label for a four-track hook-up with vocalist Josh Daniel. They hit the ground running with 'Be There (Extended Mix)', a classy vocal deep house number with added low-end weight and drowsy electric piano lines aplenty, before dropping a locked-in, late-night dub of the same track that reminded us of some of Kerri Chandler's most magical moments. 'Piranha (Deep Dub)' dips the tempo and ups the breakdown factor in a bid to provide the perfect dawn dancefloor soundtrack, while 'Chess (Original Mix)' opts for a more loose-limbed house groove and slowly unfurling melodic motifs.

Review: Label head honcho Riva Starr has tapped an all-star cast for the latest release on Snatch! All have the honour of remixing Josh Butler & Illyus & Barrientos' dancefloor smash from last year "Mic Rock" - and they do not at all disappoint. First up is San Diego's Harvard Bass who serves up a jacking and grooving rendition in his typically bass driven style, while Amsterdam's Mike Scot brings that main room tech house sound with pure style. Finally, Glasgow's Tiptoes delivers a re-rub that's aimed squarely at the peak time dancefloor and sure to up the energy levels.

Review: Knee Deep In Sound has enjoyable a prolific and profitable 2021. As a result, this 15-track offering is packed to the rafters with vibrant and purposeful peak-time treats, including a string of cuts from high-profile artists such as CamelPhat and Hot Since 82. The latter's organ-heavy, '90s garage-influenced hook-up with Big Miz, 'Rules (Big Miz Mix)' is a highlight, as is the extra-percussive, 21st century tribal house flex of Yousef & CamelPhat's 'April' and the deep house dreaminess of Simon Doty's 'The Beacon'. Our other picks of a very strong bunch include the dark, throbbing drug-pump of Yousef & CamelPhat's 'One Summer' and the trance-tinged, sub-heavy tech-house rumble of Josh Butler's 'Roskill'.

Review: Following up great releases by Yousef, Jansons, Gorge & Oliver Schories, next up on Knee Deep In Sound is the talented Northerner Josh Butler. He has become one of the most revered talents in the house scene over the years, racking up a multitude of acclaimed releases on the best labels. The slinky and hypnotic drama of "Roskill" is aimed squarely at the main room dancefloor and sure to soundtrack those saucer eyed moments with its lurking Reese bassline. The second offering titled "Vandit" offers more of the same with its spellbinding melodic progression and come hither vocals.

Review: Something of a meeting of minds here, as long-established Spanish producer Dennis Cruz (Stereo Productions, Hot Creations, Moon Harbour Recordings) joins forces with fellow deep house/tech-house fusionist Josh Butler (Madtech, Defected, Rejected), for a joyous bounce through carnival-ready Latin house. 'Ahora Tado Ba' sneakily uses portions from what sounds like an old Latin jazz record, brilliantly weaving them around a bouncy, drum-heavy samba-house groove. It's an insanely infectious cut and one that we're fully expecting to hear tons over the summer. It comes backed by a drawn-out, loved-up tech-house take from Gorgon City that's arguably far more emotive than Cruz and Butler's original, if a little less urgent, energetic and funky.

Review: After a summer of big releases on Origins, label chief Josh Butler returns to the label with a terrific two track EP. "Get It Together" is a sunny, groovy tech house cut with Todd Terry style rhythms and peppered with infectious disco diva vocals. The second offering "Sunday Sunset" is in collaboration with Korean-American talent Sohmi, who brings her sensual vocals to this evocative deep house cut. Proper mood music with slick dub elements that will hypnotise you into submission - it's perfect for dancefloors on lockdown. This is yet another must have from Butler on Origins, as the label continues to go from strength to strength.

Review: If the combo of Butler, Demuir, Flashmob and De Hey doesn't get your musical taste buds tingling then we have to ask: do you even deep house, bro? Butler and Demuir kick off a fine sampler EP with the hazy, looping 'Tropicana', an understated number topped with some chorus'd lounge-y vocal snips, while Italy's Flashmob takes us into pacier, more jacking territory with 'The Island' and its SAW-like vocal. Michel De Hey's 'Garyamoi' is an eyes-down small hours chugger with classic Chi-town stabs, before JPA channels mid-90s house vibes on the glorious 'Here Now'. Four very reliable bullets for your Saturday night disco machine gun.
