Review: KR celebrates its fifth birthday with this diverse techno compilation. KR050 gets off to a frenetic start with Clotur's "M33, a peak-time track that resonates to building acid and a firing, angular rhythm. Similar energy levels also fuel the grainy techno of Joton's "Cyber Machinery" and Roll Dann's contribution - the chord-heavy banger that is "Suga Nit White". But it's not all peak-time tracks. Benales looks to Detroit for inspiration to deliver the raw minimalism of "Undo", while a more contemporary take on stripped back dance music prevails on the murky "Lost In The Loop" by KUSS. And Metapattern's "25 Min" is a distinctive, ebm-inspired jam.

Review: Developer's label drops a monster 18-track compilation that showcases a diverse range of modern techno styles. There's the drum-heavy loops of CNCPT's "New Science & Telekinesis Facility 10" and the buzzing, percussive grooves that define the contributions from Emitto Audio's "Mars Radiation Terminal 20" and Insolate's "Cern Research Center 35". Taking the compilation to a bleaker place is the eerie, oppressive mood on Patrik Carrera's "Mars Radiation Terminal 25", but there are also more esoteric contributions such as the hypnotic tones of Ryogo Yamamori's "Center For Cyborg Data & Control 75". If you are looking for a view of where dance floor techno is headed, WAV1095 offers a ringside seat.

Review: The second instalment of Temporal Variation's split series covers a range of styles. There are ambient drones from Pyramidal Decode and dense tribal grooves from Magna Pia and Joton. Raising the tempo and intensity levels, Mohamad Kafarsoussa drops the metallic rhythm of "Cowardly", while Matthieu Benjamin drops the visceral minimalism of "Sorrow". Tripeo goes deep for the bubbling Detroit groove and soaring strings of "Andromeda", while Arthur Robert's "Indigenous" is a similarly influenced but more introspective take on this sound. With all proceeds going to a charity that helps children and their families in Palestine, there is an even greater incentive to buy this release.

Review: After a series of Eps, veteran Spanish DJ / producer Joton finally takes the bold step of releasing his debut album. Fans of his records on New Rhythmic won't be disappointed and Nines offers a number of variants on his dance floor techno sound. From the deep, filtered pulses of "Gray Matter" to the skipping rhythm and percussive ticks of "Archetype" into "Red In The Face", which acts as a halfway house to Joton's harder sound, this is a well-weighted and brilliantly executed release. Soon after dropping "Face", he puts his focus fully on harder, more abrasive styles, with the discordant riffs and linear rhythm of "Hidden Pulse" and the horror movie samples and snapping percussion of "Clean Skin" impressing most.
