Review: New York City-based artist Jovoon, with release on labels like Clone, Rush Hour, and his own label, Goldtone Records is bringing his soulful and deep house style to the re-energized NYC label Nu Groove. Jovonn immediately sets the tone its infectious bassline and hypnotic melody of 'Raise Up (Raise Up High)', using piano chords and vocal samples create a warm and inviting atmosphere. 'Sunday Ride' brings a more relax atmosphere with a groovy bassline and minimalistic percussion while the chunky "WHAT" is sure to get the dancefloor moving. The EP closes with "Let The World Dance," a track that is full of energy and drive featuring big room bass and a plunging sub that is guaranteed to make an impact.

Review: The latest instalment in Running Back's terrific 'Mastermix' series of compilations pays tribute to legendary Frankfurt club night Wild Pitch, a weekly Thursday night session that dared to challenge the dominance of techno in the city via a house-heavy playlist. The collection has been co-curated by co-founder Ata and fellow resident DJ Nd_baumecker and, as you'd expect, contains a wealth of dancefloor treats. What's on offer is a mix of authentic U.S house and European productions inspired by that sound, with our picks of a very strong bunch including the twisted, early morning Miami house of Ralph Falcon ('Every Now and Then'), the tactile brilliance of KGB's 'Detroit 909', the deep, acid-splattered hypnotism of Omegaman ('Into The A.M'), a bongo-rich drum workout from Lectroluv ('Dream Drums') and a classic Charles Webster production (Presence's 'How To Live').

Review: It may now be 31 years since Jovonn released his first EP, but the Brooklyn-based producer is showing no signs of losing his touch. In fact, his productions are arguably getting better, at least on recent evidence. Predictably, he's on fine form on the Indoors EP, first utilising the same Marlena Shaw vocal sample mined by St Germain on 'Rose Rouge' for the slick, tech-tinged jazz-house wonder that is 'Get Together (Jovonn's BND Mix)'. He next opts for a more locked-in and hypnotic deep house sound on 'I Am Man' -all Afro-house influenced drums, weighty sub-bass and ultra-melodic synth sounds, before joining the dots between smooth tech-house and basement-bothering techno on heady late-night roller 'Deep End (Techno Club Theme)'.

Review: With the original track taken from Jovonn's 2018 Timeless LP released on his own Body N Deep label, Turnin Me Out marks a much welcome extension of the artits's first full studio offering since the Blaque House LP released back in 2009! When it's the real deal you just know. Goldtones all the way, New Jersey in the house. With some bad ass dubby grooves and clubby techno synths locking down the original here, its the sultry hook and vocal combo that gives "Turning Me Out" its wider appeal, with deeper house heads not forgotten in Jovonn's 'Dark room dub'. Two jazzy and frenetic mixes come from master at work Louie Vega with a highpassed FTL mix perfect for that top loop and selection for the more adventurous DJ.

Review: Clone Royal Oak's latest outing is a simple idea, beautifully executed. It sees a trio of experienced producers offering up scalpel style reworks of classic cuts from Jovonn's early '89s Goldtone Records stable. Ian Pooley steps up first, delivering a chunky revision of sought-after 1993 cut "Pianos of Gold" that builds energy via a stripped-back, bass-heavy section before unleashing Jovonn's superb organ riffs, glassy-eyed deep house chords and sweaty vocal cut-ups. Next, DJ Deep delivers a snappy and perfectly pitched rearrangement of vibraphone-laden 1992 cut "Show U Love", before Detroit legend Mike Huckaby gets to work on Jovonn's 1991 debut "Be Free", brilliantly utilizing the breezy and soulful vocal on a version that subtly enhances the producer's classic New Jersey deep house original.

Review: 1990s deep house survivor Jovonn is set to release a new album in the autumn. Before that, he's decided to let us tale a peak inside his bulging vaults via a six-track set of "Lost Traxx". His love of fluttering, new age house style synth lines comes to the fore on beautiful, organ-rich opener "Work", while "Lost in Bass" is a heads-down, basement-ready roller from the point when New York and New Jersey producers were looking to the North of England for inspiration. Ultra-positivity is provided via the jazz piano solos of "Movin Pianos", the Roy Ayers style vibraphone work on "Not The Way", while closer "The Deepest Moov", all tactile, synth-driven grooves and jammed-out electric piano solos, more than lives up to its name.

Review: On his latest outing, New Jersey deep house stalwart Jovonn has decided to pay tribute to the Peak Hour. Predictably, he gets straight to the point with "Body 'N' Deep (Fabric Mix)", doffing a cap to a certain Farringdon basement by way of rolling riffs, quick-fire soulful vocal samples, crashing cymbal builds and the kind of toasty-but-restless groove that has always marked out his greatest productions. "Can't Make My Mind Up (Dubba Dub)" is deeper and groovier with looser machine drums and the producer's usual rich melodic progressions, while closer "Stomp The Ground" is rougher and darker as usual, with wiggly acid lines and a hushed spoken word vocal wrapping themselves around a Red Zone style basement groove.

Review: New York's JoVonn arrived on the worldwide house scene in the early 90s. He's released hundreds of jams but the Dutch crew at Clone are all about the vintage cuts. Here they present an EP of tunes that date from around 1992, newly remastered by the mighty Alden Tyrell. "Basics 4 Love" sounds like a female Prince protege philosophising over campy New York garage, complete with suspended strings and cool bleepy riff that arrives halfway through. From there "Jus Luv" is deep and jazzy with a Bobby Konders vibe and "Show You Luv" features slammin kicks and snares and Nightcrawlers melodies.

Review: Two heroes of the new breed kick off a new mix series for Jamie Jones' esteemed Hot Creations imprint. Jones began Paradise at DC10 (Ibiza) five years ago and it's gone on to be a huge success, inviting the biggest names in the business to come play alongside his crew of residents. The first mix is courtesy of Toronto's Nathan Barato, a frequent collaborator with local heroes such as Carlo Lio and The Junkies and whose career has been on the rise with releases on Cajual, Saved, Circus and Defected. Highlights include the Derrick Carter classic "Where Ya At?" (Mix Originale), Makam's brooding "Loleatta" and Jared Wilson's rusty acid odyssey "Girl, I'm Waitin". UK talent Patrick Topping this year completed his third summer as resident at DC10 in Ibiza for Paradise. Here Topping showcases the sound and style of his sets with high energy from the word go. His mix features several of his own productions guaranteed for maximum dancefloor impact, as well as Metaboman's lo-slung and exotic "Next Please" through to Dave Clarke's massive remix of Jark Prongo's "Movin Thru Your System".

Review: Yes, The Godson is back doing his thing for Rush Hour! Detroit legend Rick Wilhite first put his compiling skills to play for the Amsterdam empire back in 2010 with the excellent Vibes New & Rare Music, an 11-track release that celebrated the role the esteemed selector and producer played in moulding local Detroit tastes as the head of the Vibes New & Rare Music record store. Theo Parrish, Glenn Underground and Marcellus Pittman all contributed, whilst the compilation also worked as a platform to introduce newer names such as Kyle Hall and Ricardo Miranda. A second volume is most welcome and expands Wilhite's remit to include music by producers from Detroit, Chicago and New York. The first of two double editions kicks off with a sublime production from Blaze's Josh Milan and doesn't let up on the heat, with Jovonn, K Alexi and a collaborative cut from Wilhite and Norm Talley amongst the highlights.
