Review: Bristol-bred DJ and producer Julio Bashmore makes a much-anticipated return with "Sprungboard," an electrifying dancefloor weapon released on London's iconic Classic Records. This new track marks his debut on the label, helmed by DJ and tastemaker Luke Solomon. Known for his bass-heavy sound and forward-thinking approach, Bashmore has garnered support from the industry since his 2009 debut EP on Dirtybird with track like "Au Seve" and "Battle For Middle You" becoming underground classics. "Sprungboard" showcases his signature blend of intriguing percussion, subtle noise manipulation, and an irresistible groove. The track builds anticipation with playful rhythmic elements before unleashing its full dancefloor potential.

Review: This time around from the ever ready Local Action crew, they welcome back a legendary figure of UK dance music, as the one and only Julio Bashmore returns in sparkling form, unveiling a truly abstract new creation by the name 'Bubblin'. We are greeted by squelching synthesiser melodies and choppy vocal overlays, all glued together groove-inspiring drum switch ups and high intensity sub-lines below. Bashmore has always had an ear for the unique, with this new single and attached edit giving us yet another slice of originality, a theme that runs strongly throughout the heart of the Local Action catalogue.

Review: Dirtybird showcase their deeper side on a new 14-track complation featuring some of the label's best loved artists (Claude VonStroke, Julio Bashmore, Sascho Robotti, Pezzner) alongside a host of more up-and-coming names. There's quite a variety of sounds on offer here, with cuts ranging from the dreamy, bassy minimalism of opener "Aundy" to the pop leanings of Scavazza's "Shake Your Hearts". The best bits, though, come largely from the deepest end of the spectrum: Tom Flynn's Amp Fiddler collab "The Future" is a late-night, jazzy delight while Dernis and Robot Love bring us a couple of proper deep house bullets.

Husk
Husk - (8:02) 116 BPM Hot
Pelican - (5:35) 123 BPM
Review: Despite now mixing it with house music's global cognoscenti, Julio Bashmore has enjoyed a rather quiet year, production wise. Just as well, then, that "Husk" is arguably his most interesting release for some time. Built around the twin attractions of a twittering melody that sounds like it was taken from a record by long-forgotten early 90s ambient act Paradise X and some hissing jazz cymbals, "Husk" is more melodic, adventurous and touchy-feely than anything else he's done of late. "Pelican", meanwhile, is more typical of his previous work and should excite all those who bristle with excitement at his classic 2011 productions.

Au Seve
Au Seve - (6:33) 124 BPM Hot
Review: Broadwalk Records, the new label from Bristol house producer Julio Bashmore launches in fine style with the eminently classy Au Seve. Young Bashmore has an obvious talent for productions dripping in hooky qualities (see his still slay em jam "Battle For Middle You" as well as production credits for "Youth Soul" icon Jessie Ware) and "Au Seve" totally belongs in this canon, slipping carnival ready melodic touches and simple vocal loops over a dusted house mainframe dominated by rasping kicks and a killer rising bass line.

Review: Julio Bashmore closes proceedings on a breakthrough year with the release of the smartly titled Riff Wrath on his own Futureboogie imprint. Back in the misty eyed days of early January we plucked out young Bashmore as one of ten producers that we predicted would do great things this year, and the West Country dweller has more than delivered on this promise. Everyone Needs A Theme Tune, his EP for the fledgling PMR imprint has remained one of this year's most enduring releases and was recently endowed with a much overdue repress by the label. Subsequent EPs for Martyn's 3024 label and the newly established Futureboogie have also left an impression, whilst Bashmore has honed his remixing skills for an array of labels, turning up on heavy hitters such as Turbo and Sound Pellegrino. The sixth release on Futureboogie contains a double dose of deftly described filmic house music which pairs the vocal lead track "Ensnare" with some instrumental business in the shape of "Well Wishers", and we thoroughly recommend you check it out.
