Review: The BangersOnly crew have done a great job of assembling six absolute heaters here as they welcome the ever-ready Justin Jay inside to showcase the full range of his dancefloor capabilities. 'Monster' kicks us off with a choppy sweep through hard core synths and constantly revolving drum slaps, with the heavy low ended kick pulses of 'I Make' and more dungeon-inspired percussion of 'Go Up' alongside Berg then sending us down a newly booming avenue. It gets very vibrant from here on out, with 'Chloe' unloading a box of synthetic wizardry, keeping every listener firmly on their toes before the acidic moog pulses of 'Coming Back' and jittering 4x4 textures of 'Zappy' see the EP out in style.

Review: The Cheeky Sneakers team are on quite the run at the moment, this time welcoming in the enigmatic sounds of Justin Jay for a delicious display of future-jungle jamborees. First up he steps out solo for the constantly switching backdrops and euphoric bass grinds of 'Emotion', before the party gets a little more alien as DJ Buster G joins the ride for the glitchy synth twitches of 'Wut'. Next, a moody bubbler as Farsight leaps in on the bubbling percussion of 'Chex Out', with Bayer & Waits then arriving for the super high pace drum designs of 'Wait For The Drop'. We then round off the collaborative sector with AK Sports lending a hand on the super acidic sweeps of 'Game Recognize Game' with some violent synthetic arrangements, before Justin closes the project out solo on 'Right Now', a psychedelic trip through bit-crushed landscapes, giving us an unusual finale.

Review: Next on Vancouver's Club Designs is Los Angeles club music stalwart Justin Jay. With releases on tastemaker labels like Ovum, Dirtybird and Lost Palms, Jay continually pushes the envelope with his productions. CDMUSIC006 is a four track EP full of true club weapons; there's the Detroit style computer funk of "Sneaky Sneaky", more electro comes at you, albeit taking a much more dystopian turn, on the brooding "0000". The sci-fi bass attack continues on "Success" in collaboration with Sam Von Horn, and the emotive beats of "Queso" with Benny Bridges.

Review: Justin Jay has released music on a number of well-known labels, including Dirtybird, and now he brings his diverse, freeform sound to Lobster Theremin offshoot 10 Pills Mate. As its name implies, "My First Trance" is an evocative, tranced out track whose rolling snares and upbeat bass recall the peak of 90s euphoria. In contrast, the title track is a banging affair, led by pounding kicks and a stuttering vocal sample, while on "Believe" an eerie organ riff is fused with a jacking techno rhythm. Keeping the listener guessing until the end, "5G" is an insistent affair, with Jay deploying gritty ghetto tech style kicks and building analogue riffs to devastating effect.

Review: Dirtybird showcase their deeper side on a new 14-track complation featuring some of the label's best loved artists (Claude VonStroke, Julio Bashmore, Sascho Robotti, Pezzner) alongside a host of more up-and-coming names. There's quite a variety of sounds on offer here, with cuts ranging from the dreamy, bassy minimalism of opener "Aundy" to the pop leanings of Scavazza's "Shake Your Hearts". The best bits, though, come largely from the deepest end of the spectrum: Tom Flynn's Amp Fiddler collab "The Future" is a late-night, jazzy delight while Dernis and Robot Love bring us a couple of proper deep house bullets.

Review: Scuffed Recordings are a label that have gone from strength to strength over the last few years, often finding themselves nominated among the best at numerous award ceremonies. This latest collection is pretty damn spicy, opening up with a vibrant collaboration from Danny Goliger & Justin Jay entitled 'Sticky Rice', a potent title track dripping in original breaksy energy. We dive into a popping display of unique percussive manoeuvres and system-busting subs next as Danny rolls out solo for 'Policy Limits', a gorgeous combination of jittering acidic synths and bouncy drum sounds. We return to collaborative duty next as 'Steonardo D'Vibcu' delivers a much more hardcore influenced punch, driven mostly by hard hitting low ends and gritty bass action, before Justin Jay then rounds off the project with a wonderful solo display across the constantly expanding soundscapes of 'Snooze', again utilizing a dash of acidic spice to close the EP in style.

Review: There really does seem to be no slowing the Time Is Now movement, who continue their explosive start to 2022 with another gorgeous display, this time taking in Justin Jay across six tracks of experimental colour. First up 'Hypnotized' takes us on a sonic journey through nostalgic chord pulses, arpeggiating synthesizer slides and catchy vocal snippets, before 'I Know' steers violently left with a smooth display of junglist prowess. From here, the collaborations kick in as Denham Audio firstly join us on the acidic crunches and original breakbeat inputs of 'Swarm', next to the spacey chord progressions and jittering 4x4 drum designs of 'Burgundy' alongside Angelo Jsn. From here, Tim Reaper unleashes a very intense footwork inspired rethink of 'Swarm', next to an extended mix of 'I Know' to round off the project in style.

Review: As the story goes, a late night conversation about the past and future of dance music elicited this surprise left field collaboration from Justin Jay and Claude VonStroke. Jay's mission was simple: push VonStroke to the fringes. As Dirtybird express, VonStroke jumped at the idea of challenging creative expectations, with the result five and leftfield club tracks featuring the fine curation of a Pearson Sound remix which keeps it 'oh-so-minimal' - excuse the pun. An EP influenced by UK jungle, Detroit electro, Chicago juke and deconstructed hip hop inspirations that shaped much of the early Dirtybird sound, numbers like "Nucleus", "Poison" and "Woo" may differ radically but find themselves strung together by a sense of experimentation in polyrhythmic drum programming and dynamic, left of field arrangements. Originally distributed as a white label vinyl only release, this digital version is not to be missed.

Review: Justin Jay has quietly amassed an impressive discography over the last seven years, delivering a mixture of high-grade techno, tech-house and deep house cuts. On his first outing for Shall Not Fade offshoot Lost Palms, the Los Angeles-based producer cannily concentrates on the deeper, warmer and more atmospheric end of his trademark sound, bouncing between dusty, sample-rich jams (the S3A style quiet jazziness of 'Where Didya Come From?'), up-tempo deep space electro ('Lost Boy'), bumpin' and immersive deep house melodiousness ('Questions') and off-kilter, decidedly psychedelic post-IDM electronica (the acid-fired 'WTF Dude?'). We'd also recommend collaborative crew cut 'Ramen With The Boys', a deep and dubby excursion where Benny Bridges, Krywald and Farrar all lend a hand.

Review: Justin Jay has previously released material on Freerange and Dirtybird and for his debut on Josh Wink's label, he conjures up something darker. "Vale of Tempe" is a twisted minimal banger that resounds to barbed percussive slivers and twisted acid lines, while on the title track, he ups the pace to deliver a highly effective metallic track that boasts a churning, spiralling chord-led climax. On "Athens", Jay opts for a deeper, dubbed out groove that sounds expansive and atmospheric, while Ovum has commissioned Viers to rework "Vale..", and the talented, emerging artist turns the original into a stepping, rickety electro affair that sounds like it has arrived from a different planet.
