Review: K-Lone, co-founder of Wisdom Teeth, delivers the first of two standout EPs on Aus Music. The first instalment pays homage to UKG and house with tracks like "Give It Up", featuring a bubbly rhythm and organic percussion layered with lush pads and vibrant samples, and "Wait 4 U," a classic K-Lone house cut with low-swinging bass and sultry sax stabs. "What I Want" ups the tempo with rubbery kicks and soft-edged chord stabs, while "Own Way" closes with a deep, infectious groove. Known for his versatility, K-Lone continues to garner acclaim with his idiosyncratic sound, blending kinetic beats and lush melodies across his releases. Big ups!

On The Down Low - (4:25) 132 BPM Hot
Nobody - (4:16) 130 BPM
Review: Off the top of our heads, we can't think back to a release that the Vitamin D imprint has felt disappointing, with the ever-present garage skills of both K-LONE & Wilfy D arriving here for another tasty double single drop. Firstly 'On The Down Low' sees the pair utilise classic R&B style vocals over a smoothened 2-step combo of fluttering chord lines and tightened sub-bass. On the flip to this, 'Nobody' gives us a slightly different feeling, giving the vocal textures a much more affected, choppy feel, topped off with a groovy combination of bubbling organ and piano chords, giving both tracks a tidy balance indeed.

Review: Since their label inception back in 2018, the team over at Wisdom Teeth have done a great job at both cultivating and innovative forward thinking electronic music, with their roster featuring a number of true veterans of the game. This latest compilation takes the title 'Club Moss' and sees them assemble 14 fiery original creations, featuring the likes of Facta, K-Lone, Maya Q, LUXE, Purelink and more, all of whomst deliver naught but quality in their chosen creations. For us, despite this being a longer project, there are two clear standout recordings, the first of which is of course Cousin's atmospheric drifter in 'Tooth 4 Tooth' which gives us a spacious, exploratory feel. Alongside this, the moogy sub bounces of Tammo Hesselink's 'Cupboard Cylinder Salon' original also tops the list for us, showcasing the variation of styles that sits within the Wisdom Teeth camp.

Review: Everyone loves a bit of percussion, right? Certainly, creative DJs have always reached for drum tools, while many others instinctively reach for drum-heavy workouts to raise energy levels out on the dancefloor. Sometime Wisdom Teeth and Idle Hands producer K-Lone fits into both camps, at least if his latest offering is anything to go by. Check first lead cut 'Drumz!', where drum circle style rhythms are accompanied by effects and dreamy synth washes, before wrapping your ears around Leod's EP-closing, pitched-up re-edit of the same track. In between, he cycles through sub-bass-enhanced Latin drums ('Cinco', the infectious 'Timbales', weighty and tribalistic rhythms ('Bombo'), and handclap-propelled percussive deepness (the deliciously dreamy 'Clapper').

Review: Whenever we see a new combination release from K-LONE we know the anticipation is going to be high, especially when in collaboration with the wonderful Wisdom Teeth team who continue to impress. This tidy two-tracker is a tasty look into the modern musical mind of K-LONE, opening up with the subtle subby thuds and groovy drum skips of 'Balloons' for a stripped back yet hard hitting introduction. On the flip to this, another vibrant bubbler in 'Bubble Trouble', a solid B-side that packs another soulful punch, this time exploring a more spacious atmosphere with catchy synth tweaks to match. Very tidy indeed!

Softie - (4:15) 140 BPM
Review: The UK's Wisdom Teeth closes out 2021 with a fresh four-track from K-LONE that takes in variations of Baltimore club, UKG, dubstep and a touch of digi-microhouse to be found in feel-good banger, "Airtight". With soft, sweet and atmospheric steppers helping to build "Softie", "Deluxe" turns towards floating and sustained house chords that counterbalance the vampire dubs of its Bristol-inspired bassline. The title track, though, sees Baltimore club all up in the place with stuttering percussion, looped and detuned vocals alongside atmospheric dispersions of sound that sweetly transition into hisses of noise floor and house music bliss.

Getting Late - (5:54) 130 BPM
Review: This is a link up we didn't expect to see, but boy were we happy to as K-Lone & Wilfy D combine their unique production styles for a glorious four track exchange. First up 'Moodswings' delivers an uplifting groove, manipulating a delicate array of vocal slices and layering them between tidy organ riffs and lively 4x4 drum steps, chased up by 'STR8 UP', another vocal-driven marvel, jam-packed with singalong flavour. From here, 'Getting Late' again utilizes that concept of vocal slicing, but this time in a much more minimal approach, focusing instead on spacey drum loops and intricate bass moogs. We then finish up with one final dash of creamy delight as 'Strawberries' takes it back to the essence with some smooth chord progressions and minimal 2-stepper grooves, rounding off another impressive outing from both!

Review: This is not the first compilation to drop whose sole aim is to raise funds for NHS Chartities Together - R&S Records and Bass Agenda both delivered similarly epic sets - but "Care4Life" may well be the strongest and most diverse. As you'd expect, each one of the 45 tracks is previously unreleased, and the cast list reads like a who's who of dance music culture. Notable highlights include an ultra-deep, saucer-eyed number from Daniel Avery, an unheard rework of the Chemical Brothers' "Catch Me I'm Falling", a superb revision of Harvey's Locussolus project by Kiwi, Matthew Herbert in jazzy broken beat mode, a rare solo outing from Optimo's JD Twitch, a rip-roaring rave workout from Jas Shaw, and thumping peak-time bangers from Dusky, Eats Everything and Patrick Topping.

Review: Following on from an exceptional string of releases, we see the magnificent K-Lone land on Wisdom Teeth for a top quality LP project, showcasing just how forward thinking his sound is. The whole project is a masterclass in soundscaping and atmospheric processing, with a softened, almost meditative hypnosis running through the heart of the tracklisting. From the chiming melodies of 'Yelli' to the pleasing arpeggio expansions of 'Bluefin', it's just a fabulous listen. Although we would highly recommend taking this one in on long play, we would pick the constantly evolving percussive grooves of 'Cocoa' as our favourite for this one!

Review: Within UK underground music, we love to see creativity and forward thinking ideas within people's production, and there are few people better at expressing that sense of originality that than K-Lone. He touches down on Wisdom Teeth here for a fire four track piece, kicking off with the minimal drum infusions and high end pops of the title track 'Sine Language', before we dip into the heavy percussion and natural grooves of 'Batuada'. Following this, the rhythmic masterclass continues as the marshy textures and colourful percussive expressions of 'Missed Calls' take the lead, followed by the blissful woodland atmospherics of 'Bells', rounding off an excellent body of work.

Sleepwalker - (6:21) 120 BPM
Review: It's been a fantastic start to the year for the deeper bass community, with a tonne of heavyweight releases hitting the shelves at quite an alarming rate. This latest offering from Idle Hands, a Bristol based label intent on showcasing the best in new school bass music, comes to us courtesy of K-Lone, who has smashed these two tracks out of the water. We begin with a dip into 'Dance Of The Vampires', a spacey dubwise experiment, pulsing between dubby chord progressions and subtle percussive lines, before the super airy synthesis of 'Sleepwalker' is let loose on the flip. Excellent listening indeed!

Review: We now get stuck into some futuristic percussive persuasions as we take a look at the latest compilation from Wisdom Teeth, bringing together some of the most forward thinking electronic musicians active today. Chevel kicks us off with 'TailWind', Before the clean percussive rolls of Alex Coulton's 'Radiance' and K-Lone's 'Broke' take centre stage. Acre then gets crazy on the synthesis with 'Don't Get Me Started' and Etch gets swampy on 'Toxin', before Hodge's 'X' provides us with some futuristic tech treats. We then round up the EP in style with two belters, as Wen supplies the eerie fire on 'Late Night' and Facta strips it back to bass and drums in the vibrancy of 'Poliwhirl'.

Amongst the 38 tracks you'll find fine representatives of a myriad of sub-genres (intelligent techno, dub techno, IDM, ambient techno, gospel techno, and so on), as well as past, present and future classics (Damier and Trent's "Morning Factory", Spacetime Continuum's "Swing Factory", Mark Ernestus's recent Equinoxx remix, the Motor City bliss of Rhythim is Rhythim AKA Derrick May's "Ka-o-tic Harmony", a brilliant old Black Dog Productions workout). In other words, it's a breathlessly brilliant collection of both well-known and obscure gems. It comes heartily recommended.

Review: Leeds based K-Lone is back with a great one on DJ Parris' Soundman Chronicles after releases on Wych, Wisdom Teeth and Badimup. The dark ambient intro to "Old Fashioned" is quite the way to build the suspense and tension, until the slow motion beat drops beneath all the dubbed out industrial textures. Next up, the deep dubstep on "In The Dust Of This Planet" takes a turn for the esoteric (and almost beatless) on this fantastically immersive piece. Finally, the O$VMV$M (did we get that right?) remix up next is reminiscent of early Burial: lo-fi/sci-fi dystopian vibes that are perfect mood lighting for that stoned journey home on the nightbus on a Sunday evening. Great stuff here following up some great releases on the label by Rabit, Etch and Wen.

Review: Mindstep's movements are making deep tremors right now. Their innate understanding of deep dub, its roots and its foundations have just scored them a coalition with Leeds dub heroes SubDub (run by soundsystem killers Iration Steppas no less). Their second annual label album celebrates the this success with a far-reaching brew of spatially stretched, abyss flavoured audio. From the woozy synth wails of Djinn's "Something You Know" to the delicate piano strokes on Tallan's "Tahi" to the more club-focussed bassline drawl of Six & Syte's "Wretch", this represents the label's intricacies and depth with style and promise.
