Review: 2019 marks a decade since the Needwant label first sprung into life. Those ten years have been action packed to say the least, as this epic anniversary compilation proves. What's on offer is a mixture of label highlights from Needwant's bulging back catalogue, a handful of previously unheard tracks and the odd exclusive remix. There's much to admire throughout, from the spacey deep house goodness of Kim Ann Foxman's "Return It" and the delay-laden late night retro-futurism of Tuff City Kids' acid-fired rework of VIMES' "Minds", to the throbbing, Italo-influenced brilliance of Res Mo's "Train To Kyoto", Octa Octa's atmospheric early morning tweak of Few Nolder's "Porcelain" and the Revenge's slo-mo, glassy eyed cover of SOS Band classic "Just Be Good To Me".

Review: One time Hercules & Love Affair cohort Kim Ann Foxman struck out on her own several years back with her retro flavoured house cuts like the brilliant "Creature" which proved that she sure was right to go with her instincts. Since starting her New York City based Firehouse Records, she's continued with her brand of dance music which unashamedly gives a nod to the past yet is certainly forward facing. Actually, the tracks on this EP, as contemporary as they sure are: still wouldn't sound out of place on Sasha & Digweed's infamous Northern Exposure series from back in the day. Take for instance the dramatic opener "UR Energy" which takes its cues from early '90's British IDM; Peacefrog style. Then there's "E4 Energy", if the title alone doesn't bring back memories, the tunnelling trance melodies and hi-octane shuffle of the 909 drums sure will; not to mention those epic Jupiter strings!

Review: Former Hercules & Love Affair frontwoman Kim Ann Foxman is back with "It's You That Drives Me Wild" an infectious, pop-inflected, '90s style progressive house epic that ticks all the right boxes. Her vocals are great and as catchy as always. There's a handy extended mix for serious DJ use and a killer remix by none other than Maya Jane Coles, working her dreamy deep house magic fabulously as always. Other featured original tracks are "Give It All You Got", which carries on with said progressive house tendencies with rich melodies, soothing pads and a bouncy groove while "Magic Window" brings the power of the breaks beneath some sick acid, reminiscent of Frontside or Uberzone. It all starts to sound a bit reminiscent of Sasha & Digweed's Northern Exposure series, which is fine for our nostalgia!

Review: Here Pets unveil the second outing in the Home Is Where The Pool Is series (best name ever?), and the mood is deep and bouncy -perfect for swishing cocktails, skimpy bikinis and inflatables-a-go-go. Eats Everything is up first with the thumping and loopy rolling techno of "Chitter Chatter (dub)", before things flair up with the tingly fizz of Gemini's "On This Planet (Walker & Royce Edit)". "In Thin Air" by Steffano Ritteri is misty eyed synth-pop and Kim Ann Foxman & Shaun J Wright get really deep and emotional on the jackin' "Destination".

Review: Since her departure from Hercules & Love Affair, singer Kim Ann Foxman has gone on to become a respected DJ and producer. Here we have an earlier track, the retro pop-houser "Creature", given a fresh airing. Foxman then delivers a brand new mix of the tune, giving it a hypnotic and techy Detroit-style makeover. Many more mixes are also featured, including the slinky "Adjusted dub" trip-out, the mesmerizingly glacial synth-fountain "Techno Paradise Mix" by Nick Simoncino and the deep jackin' sleaze of Richy Ahmed's rework.

Review: A masterful return to the Hour House Is Your Rush imprint for Messrs Watson and KiNK, their fourth to date and this time featuring the excellent vocal talents of Hercules Love & Affair's bundle of energy Kim Ann Foxman. Naturally with the addition of vocals, "A Saturday In November" is a less heavyweight assault on your senses than previous releases on the label from this duo, though all of their signature studio flourishes such as raw basslines, emotive chord washes and slick drum programming remain. The accompanying dub version burns hard and will find favour amongst the more discerning dancefloors!
