Review: Following releases on Nein, Aeon, Ombra International and Trampoliner, Kimshies make their bow on Dust & Blood, an imprint known for drawing influence from coldwave and experimental synth-pop of the 1980s. The French duo has always been honest about their dark synth-wave inspirations, so it's no surprise to find that the five tracks here fit into that niche. Check first certified throb-job 'Blue Planet', a Mascara-clad mix of moody EBM bass, raw electroclash noises, whispered vocals and dystopian synths, before admiring the mid-80s Depeche Mode flex of 'Cortex 5 Senses' and the trance-inducing, doom-laden dark synth-pop of 'Trapped (featuring Erik Faulkner)'. Elsewhere, 'Cowyboys Don't Cry' is an atmospheric goth-goes-dark-Italo workout and 'Coming Out' sounds like Nine Inch Nails jamming with Acid Arab.

Not just bells and whistles, Duro keeps its flavours deep with cuts from Rigopolar in the Jean Michel Jarre/coldwave vibes of "Espiral" matched by the heavy beats and juicy basslines of Max Jones's "Poche". Earlier on you'll find some rare Tyu jams - our pick being the Espacio remix to "Stephen Hawking" - next to a selection of choice Bufi cuts (we recommended the Mio remix), with Mago going deep himself in the groove-centric "Luna". Review: In the depths of Melbourne's northside once laid a club called My Aeon and coincidence or not this is the type of soundtrack you'd expect to hear there...a futuristic selection of minimal, progressive techno and synth music appealing to the dancer. WIth a slight Italo feel permeating parts of the compilation, arpeggios, electro synths and EBM drums find their way into tracks like Alex Niggemann's "What Can Go Wrong?!" and Alan Dixon 'Love Attack' remix of Kimshies! Trippy tribal sessions are revealed in Ferrari's "Jungle Boogie" next to Rotterdam-style cosmic electro and space rock of Biesmans' "Dr. Electric" guitar. 2020 licks, best of!
