Review: As the matter-of-fact title makes clear, Dirt Crew's 'The Remixes' series offers sporadic round ups of some of the finest reworks from the Dirt Crew vaults. As you'd expect, this third volume is full to bursting with floor-friendly revisions, with a mixture of rising stars, underground heroes and big hitters at the helm. Highlights include, but are in no way limited to, Clive From Accounts' lusciously loose and tactile deep house tweak of KaySoul's 'Behind One', KaySoul's ultra-deep broken house tweak of 'See The Morning Light' by Petals In Sound, Ron Trent's epic and awe-inspiring re-imagining of Ida Hana's 'Lo Fi Hi', Dampe French's boogie and jazz-funk influenced, break-driven remix of S3A's 'Fever', and Spirit Catcher's synth-heavy, acid-flecked re-wire ofPrudo's 'Ancora No'.

Presenting a range of complimentary takes on house music but rooted in the label's deep and occasionally disco-tinged philosophy, there's naturally much to enjoy. Our picks of a very strong bunch include the colourful nu-disco-meets-piano-house flex of Lorenz Rhode's revision of S3A's 'Clarence J Bootlicker', a gorgeous, glassy-eyed Balearic house tweak of Rhode's own 'And I Said' courtesy of Tensnake, Leaves and Iron Curtis's ultra-dreamy and tactile take on The Tortoise's 'Lost Forever', a squelchy and locked-in Motorcitysoul re-rub of Dirt Crew, and Nebraska's inspired rework of 'Peach Shuffle' by Damp? [sic].

Review: Emerging through labels like Freerange, Let's Play House to Bordello A Parigi and Hell Yeah Recordings, Russian producer Kito Jempere in 2020 has launched his own self-titled label! Yet Another Kito Jempere Album in fact only presents a third album in nearly a decade-long career which, with the help of Emotional Response, helps establish his new platform following a split release with Hard Ton and Noteless earlier this year. Taking in collaborations from the likes of Jimi Tenor, Wolfram, Hard Ton, Lipelis, Rich Thair (Red Snapper), Ruf Dug, Cedric Gasaida (Azari & III), Kito Jempere sends in a 14-track large album that is as experimental ("Netfex") as much as it is balearic ("After The Storm") as it is electro ("Time Traveller") or free jazz, acoustic and sample-based ("WSI"). A truly eclectic record that touches on all matter of pop-tinged and electronic genres, Kito Jempere's sound is purely his own and ready for the taking.

Review: Viscera Transmissions' first 'Galactic Service Broadcasting' comp was released back in May, as a fundraiser for charities supporting the UK's National Health Service; now here comes Volume 2, with profits this time going to the homeless charity Shelter. With 16 tracks from as many artists to choose from, there's a fair degree of stylistic variety on offer, from the acid electro throb of Duncan Gray's 'Punish' to JMII's floaty, proggy 'Intika', but the emphasis generally is on that region of the contemporary disco spectrum where Italo, EBM and experimental electronica collide, with occasional forays too - as on Owain K's 'Quantum Leap' - into deep house territory. Interesting stuff all round.

Review: Operating out of Saint Petersburg, Kito Jempere has been bringing a broad church of influences to bear on his vintage grooves for labels including Pleasure Unit, Bordello A Parigi, Bahnsteig 23 and many more. Now he's the latest to lend his touch to Duca Bianco's series of 7" edits, following strong entries from Cherrystones and Tom Bolas. FKA Lany is a slow and bombastic jam with a boogie-tastic lead and oodles of swooning female vocals, while on Drakon he tackles a Thomas Leer classic with lashings of Oriental mysticism. Both tracks should suit eclectic spinners with a taste for 80s production.

Review: Sea Monster, the 2017 sophomore set from St Petersburg's Kito Jempere (real name Krill Sergeev), was something of a gentle Balearic treat. As you'd expect, this package of remixes of album highlights is a little more club-centric, though every bit as warm, glassy-eyed and loved up. Check, for example, the wonderfully tactile and gently breezy versions from Max Essa. These are rich-in gently pulsing drum machine hits, swirling chords and fluttering synthesizer melodies. Of the two, it's the more low-slung Dub, which sounds like a mid '80s Simple Minds instrumental B-side, which really resonates. Elsewhere, Finnish veteran Jimi Tenor provides a fuzzy, lo-fi version of "Puzzled" that sits somewhere between Balearic jazz and electro-lounge, and Miskotom pops a happy pill and gets all loved up with "Ampa".

Review: Bordello A Parigi has just returned from a fruitful expedition to Russia and presents Super Sax Sounds: a rich and varied expression from St Petersburg synthesizer playboy Kito Jempere. Now here is an artist that has explored a spread of sounds during his career. The first two tracks are the product of one diverse machine: the Yamaha QY-70. Beginning with the late night neon-lit disco of "Bueller's Dance" which indeed does sound like it was lifted from a John Hughes soundtrack, as does the evocative and bittersweet score of "Space Commercial" with its tapestry of rich synth textures. We particularly enjoyed closing track "Tomohawk", a mysterious journey through the exotic with its middle eastern aesthetic conjured form analogue machines.

Review: Earlier in 2017, Russian producer, DJ and live musician Kito Jempere returned with his second album for Italian label Hell Yeah. Jempere plays live as the Kito Jempere Band, where he calls upon his bandmates for their many skills to lend the album a richly musical feel. Mixed and co-produced by band member Roman Urazov, the album featured Artemiy Gunbin aka Noteless on vocals, as well as drummer Ruslan Gadzhimuradov, Matvey Averin on bass and finally Sergey Lipsky - who plays guitar and is also half of Simple Symmetry. We now get treated to a series of brilliant remixes on this EP. Power duo Lauer and Fabrizio Mammarella aka Black Spuma deliver a typically neon-lit and retro makeover of "Ampa" (Black Spuma Energy Thieves vocal mix) and it's full of classic beatboxes, shimmering vintage synth arpeggios and a classic sense of swing. Russian producer Lipelis' remix of "Lifetime Theme" (Lipelis Kebab House remix) takes you deep into the exotic (with a pinch of acid) and Melbournian in Berlin Bell Towers delivers a balearic tinged rendition of the track too, that his earned him releases on Public Possession and Stamp The Wax.
