Review: Composed of Italian Mario Boncaldo and New Yorker Tony Carrasco, "Wonderful" will equally be remembered as a foundational proto house release alongside classics such as "Dirty Talk" and "MBO Theme". It originally appeared as one of six tracks on their sole mini album 'De-Ja-Vu' from 1982. Appearing on UK label h21c for this incarnation, it receives three respectful modern reworks: from scene hero Lauer's electrifying rendition in which he injects his idiosyncratic and neon-lit style, to D-Tourn's Warehouse 83 Edit of the aforementioned "Dirty Talk". Like its name may suggest, it harks back to the Windy City's glory days, when the likes of Trax Records reigned supreme. True classics for those who know on this one!

Review: Here's something to set the pulse racing: a much-needed reissue of Klein and MBO's Ron Hardy and Larry Levan favourite "The MBO Theme". What makes this release rather special, though, is not the presence of the killer original version - an instrumental prototype for their later classic "Dirtytalk" - but rather the addition of a ridiculously obscure South African re-make by Warrior that one of Rush Hour's resident crate-diggers stumbled across last year. It's arguably even better than the original. Not only does it operate at a slightly slower tempo, but it also includes some fine fretless bass and wonderfully spacey synthesizer re-recordings of the track's famous lead lines. It makes the package simply essential in our eyes.

Review: West Country nu-disco dons Situation are the latest outfit to and compile and mix an installment of Nang's popular Beach Disco Sessions series. Happily, they've dug deep into their crates, putting together a selection that blends back catalogue material from the Nang and Tirk labels (Ruf Dug's quirky mix of Klein & MBO's Italo-disco classic "Dirty Talk", the blissful nu-Balearica of Sorcerer, AN2's overlooked rework of Space's "Carry On, Turn Me On") with vintage material and overlooked gems from a decade of nu-disco (see the early Hans-Peter Lindstrom remix of Fuzz Against Junk's "Country Clonk"). Naturally, there are a few of their own tracks and remixes in there, too, including the deliciously woozy deep house cut "Here Comes The Sun" and a sublime, string-drenched remix of Love/Money's "Strange Kind of Love".
