Review: Joining the dots between dubstep's most exciting formative period and the present day, Jakes dons a protective glove and digs deep amongst the glass shards in the Hench vaults to grasp some of the sharpest sounds he's ever delivered. From 2007's wobble-muncher "2 Steps Back" and MRK1's 2012 sleazy robo-gangster jam "Dirty Dubstep Music" with brand new cuts such as "H.U.D", a futuristic teeth-baring tech-bass stampede soundtrack via cuts from luminaries such as Mensah, Sukh Knight, Komonazmuk and Vodex. This brings some of Hench's boldest moments together with murky clarity and molten consistency. Heavy doesn't even begin to describe it.

Review: With its theme framed by spoken word samples in the intro, "Underground" is Bristol born Komonazmuk's love letter to his younger days listening to and playing on pirate radio. The track itself, taken from his forthcoming album, sees him leave behind his moodier rollers for a bright, funk infused house number that could only come from Bristol, with a killer vocal hook that nonetheless maintains all the bass weight of his earlier material. On the flipside a renewed Paul Woolford takes some time off from his Special Request project to rework the track into a dark, bass-heavy hybrid form with hints of the Autonomic sound in its fast rhythmic cuts and moody synths. Awesome stuff.

Review: Metalheadz are on devastating form right now and they happily slam down the gauntlet with this superb EP. Continuing in the same vein as the previous "Genesis" instalments they present a selection of fresh, upfront drum and bass which simply refuses to adhere to any template. The much heralded Need For Mirrors kick proceedings off with the deadly "Lofar" which sets the tone perfectly before Dutch maestro Nymfo follows with the dark stepper "Conscious Minds". Mikal's "Epic" is the standout track here, a pure streamlined aural assault and finally Critical Impact & Komonazmuk wheel out the Amens on the seriously heavy "Translation".
