Review: London-based, Australian-born sonic alchemist HAAi is called up for her instalment of DJ-Kicks. At 17 tracks large, including three exclusive numbers from the artist herself, it's a mix taking inspiration from techno through electronic pop and the intense sound design of acts like Pan Sonic. Meticulously woven into a euphoric narrative that makes its way through unexpected BPM shifts, dramatic accelerations, and liminal transitions - it's tracklist alone should be enough to pique your interest with rare cuts from the likes of The Blessed Madonna, Agoria and Perc, to John Selway, Manny Dee and Cocktail Party Effect. And fun fact, it follows HAAi's 2022 album, "Baby, We're Ascending".

Review: Producer Lewis Roberts aka Koreless announces his much-anticipated debut album Agor via Young Turks - the place for all of Koreless' music since 2013. Like a vessel piercing through a sea of dance, ambient and neo-classical music, Agor - a Welsh word for 'open' - sees the artist build upon vaporwave, garage and leftfield vocals ("Strangers") by connecting it to an undefinable world of sound design and experimental electronics. Said to be five years in the making, Koreless himself explains Agor as as an attempt to 'build a club rollercoaster that swallows you up and spits you out.' Get the closest thing to functional club tracks in "Black Rainbow", "Shellshock" and the much championed "Joy Squad", with the album overall an abstract journey through a symbiosis of voice and synth.

Review: Much like the Fabric mix series, Late Night Tales has been a staple of the British compilation dynasty, and the label has somehow managed to consistently call upon some of the world's biggest and most interesting talents to demonstrate their skills behind the DJ decks, and to give us a tiny view into their tastes and influences. Iceland's Olafur Arnalds, a lo-fi artist who has steadily released nothing but quality on the Erased Tapes label, is asked to do the honours for the catalogu's 44th instelment, and we are seriously digging what this dude is into. Electronica is a bit of a cop-out term to describe this gear, but there is just so much diversity in here that it's simply impossible to categorise it under one roof. Maybe sci-fi electro soul would be a good term, as it manages to capture the mood and feel of these beautiful songs by the likes of Koreless, Jamie XX via Four Tet, Samaris, Arnois, and Arnalds' own music. Spot on once again, Late Night Tales!

Review: London imprint Pictures Music has swiftly aligned itself with the ever growing wave of talented young things making genre spanning music from machines - impressing with releases from Dark Sky and the perma fringed Seams. They reach out to Glasgow for their latest release, with 19 year old Koreless - currently being feted by the Young Turks and Hessle Audio stables - matching the labels previous output in terms of quality. Whislt there's been an overabundance of music revolving around steppy breaks, emotive melodies and almost orgasmic female vocals - the Hyph Mngo Formula if you will - "4D" impresses via the simplicity in production, eschewing layers of emotive musicality for a basic fairytale chord wrapped in snapping percussion, insistent bass and that all important vocal refrain. B Side excursion "MTI" is perhaps the stronger track, fuzzed out textures bubbling amidst the plughole drip of bass textures and subtle rhythms. It's hard to pin a musical style on the two tracks here, which is what makes so much music these days so exciting.
