Review: With the Monsters Music imprint always looking to push the envelope when it comes to futuristic dubstep flavour, it's always exciting to see a new compilation drop and to see the artists they are pushing to the forefront. From start to finish, this project holds some of the gnarliest 140 drops of the year, from the squelching bassy goodness of Chaimba & Darkz's 'Amplify Skank', to the system shattering subs of No Remorse's 'Forgiven' and the metallic janks of 'Decrepit' from Yugen. The whole project is a homage to the more heavyweight, synth-driven side of dubstep in 2023, with standouts including the sub-driven mastery of 'Jezero' from Bulker, the scatty synthesiser madness of Sh?m's 'It's A Square One', and the euphoric melodies of DEFIVNT's 'Falling' epic. 25 tracks, 25 heaters!

Review: What a thunderous collection we have on our hands here as the Durkle Disco crew emerge with a potent selection of remixes, unleashing a new lease of life to their extremely varied catalogue. The first thing that has to be said is just how many different direction this project is able to go in, from the dissonant synthetic drifts of Dusty Ohms on remix duty for Central Spillz' 'Deep End', to the pulsating tribal drum work of East Man's 'Bushmaster' overhaul from Fonzo & Riko Dan, then back to KOROstyle's potent 'On Sight' original with Emz & Jay0117, which receives a warbling recreation from Hayz & Nothingnice. This is Durkle Disco down to a T, powerful vocals, original sounding instrumentals, with our favourites including KRSLD's dizzying refix of 'Bad' from Logan & Kouslin, Jook's explosive overhaul of 'Bushmaster' and Dutchie's super smooth rethink of Ngaio's 'Green Eyed Queen'. Lovely stuff!

Review: Next up from the Slit Jockey team, we see them welcome Korostyle on this one for a rampant piece 140BPM badness as they unveil his new single 'Selector. This one takes a pretty legendary sample block chops it up into a thousand pieces, giving us a truly unique original. On remix duty, we firstly hear Starkey's uniquely grizzly take, before the Death's Dynamic Shroud remix provides us with some glitchy rhythmic goodness and unnerving atmospheric padding. We finally hear the Geo Metro XLT edit which takes a much more minimal, ping-based approach, before rounding off on the more classic rolling sounds of Maru's overhaul. Lovely stuff!

Review: As far as dubstep labels go, there are few that had a more consistent or impressive release schedule than Joe Nice's now legendary Gourmet Beats imprint, who seem to be going from strength to strength at every available opportunity. They invite Korostyle in to kick of 2019 and what a decision that was as he delivers three little gems. Firstly we take a look at the grimey drum switches of the title track 'Body, Mind & Soul' before dipping into the more classic dubstep style arrangements of 'My Long Shadow'. Finally, we finish up with the breaksy drum rhythms and grizzly sub structures of 'Firaga', rounding this one off with a real bang!

Review: For this project, LA's own Korostyle steps forward on the Slit Jockey imprint for an incredibly creative selection of sound design led compositions with the "Arkana" EP. Right from the off we are treated to the intense synthy bleeps of "The Raid". This is followed by unique soundscaping on 'I Get' which works choppy electronic sampling and spacious anti percussion together at a dubstep tempo. The eerie soundscaping and unpredictable melodics of "Keeper Of Time" wraps things up. This is a real lesson in creative sound design and rhythm if ever we saw one.

Review: Guangzhou Underground is a collective of DJs, promoters and a record label all based in Guangdong province, China. If you didn't' know about the rising bass scene in the East, you'd better keep up because there are some serious sounds being created there. The East West Bass Test compilation features 11 exclusive tracks from producers representing US, UK, Canada, China and Macau. Highlights include the scattershot electro beats and plucked melodies of "verity" by Merouac, the moody percussive roller "Vagabond" by KOROSTYLE and the woofer busting DnB of "Freq U" by Stranjah.

Review: It's time for Slit Jockey's annual Choice Cuts compendium. A lot has changed since their last collection: The US/UK neo-grime feedback loop has never been louder, and neither has Slit Jockey's relevance and influence. Highlights of this inherently futuristic bass exploration can be found on every track; from the sudden bliss twist of Starkey's "Trigger" to Shiftee's swampy, super-prang audio head-butt "Geek Flex" via the dungeonesque bubbles and blips of Korostyle's "Kalika" and TIMBS' emotional flute-snapping funeral trap vibe "Rivers", this is, without question, Slit Jockey's most exciting and all-encompassing curation to date. Not to be missed.
