Review: Razor 'N' Tape has been slowly expanding its' outlook in recent years, focusing on original productions just as much as re-edits. Here, they've pulled off something of a coup by snapping up two fresh cuts from Dutch heavyweights Kraak & Smaak. There's the clipped Chic guitars, jaunty analogue bass, undulating Syclops lead lines and gravelly soul vocals of "Way Back Home", and the filter-heavy disco-house throb of "Seb's Party". The package also includes two tasty re-rubs apiece from Ben Sun and Tiger & Woods. Review: Glasgow's Shaka Loves You has rightly earned a reputation as disco-centric duo on the rise. Because of this, it's little surprise to see them at the controls on Bomb Strikes' first foray into the disco-focused compilation market. The Scottish pair have naturally pulled out all the stops for the occasion, selecting 20 hot-to-trot cuts that aptly blur the boundaries between disco, funk, nu-disco, electro and boogie. Highlights include, but are in no way limited to, the hazy, sun-kissed soul of Lack of Afro's "Back To The Day", the thickset P-funk revivalism of Kraak & Smaak's "Dynamite" and the rubbery disco-house-meets-UK soul flex of the Reflex's remix of Omar's "Vicky's Tune". "Alone With You", a heartfelt stroll through soft-focus boogie pastures in the company of expressive vocalist Cleopold, was undoubtedly one of the highlights. Here it gets a deserved single release, accompanied by three new reworks. Purple Disco Machine steals the show with a version that deftly melds the Dutch outfit's original disco instrumentation to a tasty house groove and atmospheric nu-disco synths. They've nailed the sound of course, with the six tracks flitting between soft focus, mid-80s Balearic wooziness (the spoken word-sporting title track), gorgeous, bass-heavy nu-jazz ('The Cypress Garden'), Ennio Morricone-inspired excellence ('Sunflower Suite'), piano-powered disco-not-disco ('Corsica '80') and lusciously glassy-eyed downtempo gear ('Cul De Sac' and 'French Souffle'). Review: Kraak & Smaak singles are rarely anything less than party-starting treats, and this latest outing is no different. It helps, of course, that Eli Escobar - a producer known for delivering colourful, disco-and-boogie flavoured house hits - is on remix duty. His version of "U R Freak" is arguably a little dreamier and more musically intricate than his singles on Classic, but still packs a punch thanks to bustling organ stabs, bongo-laden beats and some on-point synth bass. The rest of the EP is taken up by Mood's modern boogie-meets-deep house remixes of "Prescription". Eric Biddiness makes his presence felt on the vocal version, rapping and singing over a squidgy, synth-laden backing track that perfectly tiptoes the fine line between club-ready fare and radio-friendly cheeriness.

Review: Dutch boogie masters Kraak & Smaak mark two whole decades in the game this year, and to celebrate the occasion, Jalapeno bring us this best-of selection culled from releases both on Jalapeno and on their own Boogie Angst imprint. Kraak & Smaak have always neatly walked the line between straight-up funk, disco and boogie on the one hand, and more pop-oriented productions on the other, and so it is here: the first half of the album is packed with 'new old' funk and soul gems like 'Danse Macabre' and 'I Don't Know', while the second half concentrates largely on the more commercial side of their oeuvre, not to mention their collaborations with a wide array of guest vocalists. Fans will have most of what's here already, of course, but it's a fitting tribute to an impressive career to date - long may it continue.

Review: Given their respective profiles and reputations, you'd expect there to be plenty of takers for this studio hook-up between funk-fuelled Dutch veterans Kraak and Smaak and glossy LA nu-disco sort Luxxury. The original version - included at the end of the EP - feels like a more underground take on the floor-friendly, classic disco-pop sound cultivated by Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams on "Get Lucky". Really, though, it's the remixes that take top billing, with fast-rising Aussie Dr Packer providing the headline rework. His take is chunkier and funkier, making much more use of delay effects, mind-altering cowbells and crunchy Clavinet lines. It sounds like a summer anthem in waiting. Elsewhere, there's a deep French Touch style revision from Bas Roos and a breezier, suitably swirling Balearic nu-disco interpretation by Vhyce.

Review: Not content with serving up regular doses of ear-pleasing nu-disco, the Future Disco crew has decided to start sound-tracking days spent lounging on the beach. Somewhat predictably, this second Beach Life selection is packed with seriously steamy, sun-kissed grooves. While this epic digital package does contain two (un-credited) DJ mixes, the real joy is the expansive - not to mention eclectic - selection of DJ-friendly, unmixed tracks. Check, for example, the sun-down, jazz-funk influenced bliss of Folamour's "L'homme Loup", the head-nodding lounge warmth of Snacks' "Daydream", the gentle Balearic nu-disco of Sirs, the lo-fi deep house haziness of DJ Boring and COEO, and the sand-in-the-shoes shuffle of Eli Escobar's delicious remix of Kraak and Smaak's "U R Freak". Throw in a swathe of tasty, laidback but floor-friendly deep house jams and you have a solid collection of serious summer jams.

Review: Dutch boogie house champs Kraak & Smaak knocked it outta the park last year with their Juicy fruit long player. Now they're putting out remixes of these two album cuts. "Stumble" is a sadness-tinged piano lament with soft, happy-sad summer day vibes. The Fhin Flip version retains Parcel's soulful vocals but adds slow, tough beats and low end rumbles. Elsewhere Richard Dorfmeister appears and delivers a spectacular "Cinematic Way" version and Blue Motel turn in a dreamy stonewashed synth rework. "So Clear" meanwhile is hazy deep house (Imagine a stoned Gypsy Woman) that gets remixed in an off-kilter funk direction by Memem.

Review: No prizes for guessing what's going on here, as Leeds based Bomb Strikes label round up some of the best bits from their 2023 catalogue. The Niceguys' distinctly Prince-esque opener 'Strip It' sets the tone for a collection that draws mostly on hip-hop, funk and breaks for inspiration, with the emphasis firmly on uptempo, party-hearty vibes - see the fast 'n' furious rapping on Boca 45's '45s', the fat, squelchy funk of Tom Booze's 'T-Funk' (a track that wears its influences proudly in its title), or Nat Tate's charmingy, organic take on Gala classic 'Freed From Desire'. But there's room, too, for Bazza Ranks, Turnstyle & Venessa Jackson's cheesy-but-irresistible disco-houser 'Back To You', as well as Kraak & Smaak's driving, euphoric 'Get Live, Get Down', making for a strong, varied package overall.

Review: Birdee is a rising star of the nu-disco and re-edit scenes, so it makes perfect sense that Bomb Strikes has recruited him to curate and mix the latest volume in their excellent Disco Funkin' compilation series. As you'd expect, it's a thoroughly and joyous affair, rich in colourful synth sounds, funky disco basslines and beats that flit between housed-up heaviness and more organic-sounding, less pumped-up grooves. There are tons of essential cuts amongst the 25 unmixed tracks on show, with highlights including the sun-bright rush of Pete Herbert's remix of Da Chick's 'Chick a Boom', the crunchy Clavinet-sporting disco-funk of Shaka Loves You's 'Let's Move (SLY Disco Rub)', the slick French Touch style warmth of Birdee's own 'Thinking About You' and Ray Mang's celebratory revision of Smoove & Turrell's 'Do It'.
