Review: We know about the boy who cried wolf. But have you heard the one about the boy who cried Kry Wolf? No, neither have we. But dropping this bottom end savvy b-boy workout will certainly keep the wolves from your door for a while. Elsewhere you'll find "Under My Skin", a bashy, darker number with an incessant rhythm and some nifty finger clicks and handclaps. There's plenty to chat about on the remix tip, too: Mak & Pasteman turn "Black & Blue" into a Guy Called Gerald flavoured acid house joint, Daniel Haaksman massages "Under My Skin" into a hypnotic Made To Play style mode while Real delivers a slice of two-step so sexy you'll want to marry it.
Review: Not content with having risen on the tides of their Sound of Sumo label's success, label bosses Kry Wolf have elected to start a new label in the form of Food Music. Debuting last year with a release from Shadow Child, the pair now take centre stage for the label's second release. Entitled The Flood, the lead track combines sharp tech-house beats with buzzsaw bass and slick vocal samples, all coated in deep strings, while "Workin Hard" takes things up a notch with its crisp flurry of claps and synth bubbles driven along by some peak-time rave piano. "Together" meanwhile combines techno and bass in equal measure with its dark, tunnelling acidic bassline and dubbed out piano chords; it's a stark contrast to Makes No Sense's remix of the track which gives it into a light UKG-inspired rework.
Review: Having previously impressed with a series of singles on their own Sound of Sumo label, Lewis Darvill and Bill Francis moved to Food Music earlier this year, releasing the Food EP to great acclaim. Here they follow it up with more shuffling, bottom-heavy house. With its pulsating sub-bass, classic US garage beats, choice samples and alien stabs, "Nightmode" is arguably the pick for peaktime plays. That said, the rush-inducing keys, cut-up vocals and cute melodies of "U Like" should also appeal to DJs who like their beats upfront and party-friendly. For those of a ravier persuasion, the Pedestrian remix of "Nightmode" should be an essential purchase.
Review: It's safe to say that Kry Wolf now has a rather impressive catalogue behind him, and nothing but quality under his belt. The man behind the Sounds Of Sumo label drops his latest release for Night Bass and it seems like the perfect place for his wondrous bass cuts. "Temper" is a slow, shape-shifting beast with a rattling percussion hook that wraps perfectly around the tune's knotted swarms of swamp bass, whereas "Flashlight" unleashes a bit of four-to-the-floor beneath a sea of rave sirens and purring bass tones. "Wavvves" feels like the last piece of hardcore continuum, a break-heavy, pseudo jungle killer to tie this man's bass experimentalism in the best possible way. Hot!
Review: Making quite a name for themselves with mixes of Canblaster, Reset!, Udachi and even Lady Gaga, as well as DJ support from the top tier of (such as A-Trak, Zinc, Roska, Lil Silva and Sub Focus), Sound of Sumo bosses Kry Wolf take a simple sax line and chop it to perfection on "Lost In Treme". In a Baltimore Club style, they sync the chopped samples up with heavy kicks to create a sparse yet hugely powerful sound, switching up octaves and adding misty keys on the process. "Begging You" is also included and is a straight up UKF banger, while mixes of both tunes from Dave Spoon, Mr Tickle and Unitz all shine on this excellent single.
Review: Lewis Darvill and Bill Francis are Kry Wolf, a British duo who have made their pushed their name forwards thanks to an extensive number of EP's on labels such as Sounds Of Sumo, and even an appearance on Claude Von Stroke's Dirtybird. Their latest cuts come courtesy of Food Music, who have been on fire in recent months, and they're nuthin' but a load of house tinted bangers. "Pushing Me" is a peak time monster for summer dancefloors such as Cocorico and Cavo Paradiso, while "The Feels" is bumpier and a touch more stuttering when it comes to its bass, and "Cosmic Vibes" shuts things down with a deep, sweltering low-end and minimalistic percussion slamming.
Review: Sounds Of Sumo label bosses Kry Wolf return to their home imprint with a bold new sound in the form of Concrete; eschewing their usually lighter take on bass music, the title track is a dark combination of wobble bass and dub atmospherics, held together with some steely techno rhythms which comes across like Objekt's "Cactus", while "Bluffin" combines more abstract beats with ghetto house-inspired vocal samples and dubby stabs. Woz is tapped up to remix the title track, being considerably more sparing with the savage bass and rearranging its rhythms into something altogether more angular; Benton's remix of "Bluffin" is classic SOS, providing a bouncy piece of bass-heavy garage house.
Review: Hot Bristol duo Bill Francis & Lewis Darvill are Kry Wolf. who've released previously on Sounds Of Sumo and Palms Out Sounds. My Nu Leng are another up and cming local duo who have appeared on Black Butter Records and MTA Records. If that wasn't enough, the duos also enlist the vocal talents of one Kiko Bun; an original rudeboy from London. Now you may be hinking there's too many cooks in the kitchen but you'd be sadly mistaken! This pitched down and deconstructed take on modern jungliest sounds is pure fire. Rumbling sub bass, choppy amen breaks combined with Bun's convining dub stylin' vocals are the bomb right here.
Review: After revealing each exclusive track over the last month, Kry Wolf finally delivers his DNA collection. A way of showing his own roots and party passions while celebrating his peers and labelmates' finest studio creations, the mix is a great reflection of Wolf, his and Shadow Child's label and its talented roster. Highlights include Shadow Child and Friend Within's WOW-referencing "The Moon", Kry Wolf's percussion-pummelled twist on "Piano Weapon", Geoff K's floor-melting bass shaker "Dysturbed Trumpet" and NYTA's dangerously demonic vocal cut "The Call". Also included is Kry Wolf's mix that joins the dots between the many sonic shades. A great concept backed up by an immaculate collection; DNA is where it's at.
Review: Kry Wolf's Sounds Of Sumo celebrate five years of prize fighting with this superb 14-track newness of an opus. With cuts from some of the label's most distinctive members and new faces alike, the collection seeps freshness from every twist and turn... Bondax's silky two-step twist of Mak & Pasteman's "Heat", Somepoe's super-sharp-stepper "Late Night Bootie", the deep dubby tech squiggles of Tony Goods' "2 Scoops", Tee Circus's dangerously overweight warp session "Plus 8". The list goes on. Versatile, creative and overwhelmingly funky, here's to another five years.
Review: Listening to Miami 2014 it sounds like this year's WMC will be dominated by interpretations of classic US house. Prok & Fitch's "South Keys (original club mix)" is a storming tribal affair, while the key changes and heavy low end on My Digital Enemy's "Change" is reminiscent of New Jersey garage. Garage of a UK variety is audible on the rolling snares and rubbery bassline of Hot Since 82 's "Hot's Groove", but in the main, this compilation is US-dominated. Piemont's "Microsleep (original mix)" recalls the darkest excesses of Armand Van Helden house, replete with scary sirens, while the Kevin Knapp take on Richy Ahmed's "The Drums" is a clap-heavy Chicago jam.
Review: Food Music continues its fine form with a heavy-loaded remix release after bomb after bomb from the likes of Coldwater and Fake Blood. The boys get together to remix a collection of tracks from a mixed pool of artists, some new and some who have already featured on the label. This is all within the bass spectrum, of course (although we hate to use that term so loosely), with seven dance-ready cuts in total. If we were to pull the gold then we'd have to lean towards Applebottom's rework of Kry Wolf's own "No Trouble" - a deranged tech-house bruiser with nutty vocal samples - and Fake Blood's remix of Vhyce's "Be The Same", a jazzy and break-ridden house lick. Top.
Review: Toolroom sets out an ambitious programme for its annual Miami trip. Patrick Topping gets the party started with the diva vocals and crowd cheers of "Be Sharp, Say Nowt", a true good-time house tune, while a more considered but no less infectious take on vocal house is audible on The 2 Bears' "London Are You There?" and Bicep's wonderful electro-synth-led "Metro". However, this compilation isn't limited to house music: the OC & Verde remix of Eli & Fur's "Around You" is frosty Euro trance at its most memorable and Dubspeeka's "Lyssa" is a gorgeous piece of dubbed out, dreamy techno. Miami won't know what hit it.
Review: As per usual, the UK's Toolroom imprint has put together the definitive summer collection when it comes to tech-house and anything minimal. As you can see - and hear - there are 67 tracks on here, all from the very best and most coveted talent in the scene; Mark Knight features prominently, of course, alongside established house entities like Erick Morillo, Format: B, Sascha Funke, Nic Fanciulli, and many others. But, don't stop there, as there is plenty of new talent to discover in artists like SecondCity, GotSome, Marcellus Wallace, ANOTR, and many more. There are three continuous mixes available, also, one for each summer setting. This is BIG!

Review: YouTube channel turned party brand Eton Messy has devoted much time over the last 12 months to building up its' record label. Here, it continues that approach via another periodic In:Season compilation featuring a 19-track collection of exclusive label cuts. As you'd expect, there are plenty of "future anthems" present, including the bounding heaviness of Gotsome's thoroughly filthy "Sound Suite", the dark, garage-influenced Afro-house throb of Martin Badder's "Ugulya Mandee", the acid-powered late night sleaze of Catchment's "Kornastone" and the ragged electro-house/deep house fusion of Gallago's "Left". Throw in a swathe of warmer and more melodious cuts from the likes of Howea, Alva, Grazze and Peasant, and you have a rock solid collection of contemporary club cuts.

Review: As you'd expect, given the label's runaway success over the past few years, there are plenty of very familiar cuts on this 52-track 'best of' from the all-conquering Toolroom, including GotSome's tribal smash 'Nomad Chat', label boss Mark Knight's infuriatingly catchy, flute-driven Shovell collab 'Selecao', Mendo's sample-heavy G-houser 'Mooving' and CamelPhat's remix of Fatboy Slim. But there are plenty of less heavily rinsed gems on offer too, and with tracks from the likes of D.Ramirez, Leftwing & Kody, Dosem, DJ S.K.T and Dale Howard plus reworks of Sterling Void and Todd Terry classics, it's a no-brainer for tech-house jocks on a budget.
Review: New from Greenmoney Records - an unusual choice given that they're the brains behind the excellent UK bass label Sound of Sumo - UK duo Kry Wolf smash it with these two new cheeky electro-wonk beauties. "Off The Reel" is a quirky mix of straight and simple jacking house drums and some militant, Oizo-like bass stabs and cowbell rolls, while "Scream" goes a bit more maximal with some distorted bass and "Percolator"-style synth bubbles over a mean house beat. These strongly deserve a good few listens.
