Kufism Pt 2
You've Fallen Down - (8:01) 140 BPM Hot
Review: Kuf aka Marcus Pengermaa has built up an impressive catalogue, mainly on Arsenik, and Kufism Pt is testament to the project's individuality. Like previous releases, it demonstrates the Kuf project's expertise at teasing new shapes and sounds from the techno form. This is audible on the warbling synths and dusty vocals of "Control", with "Basic Dub" resounding to a similar sound. While the pacy, angular rhythms of "You've Fallen Down" and "Complex" are more in keeping with a conventional dance floor aesthetic, the latter is shot through with rave stabs and the former's minimal sound is made more hypnotic thanks to the use of repetitive vocal samples. All told, it's a worthy addition to the series.

Kufism Pt 1
Transluscent Stuff - (9:54) 140 BPM
Review: Label owner Kuf returns to Arsenik for this fine purist techno release. "Minimal Shit" is self-explanatory, but its insistent bleeps and nickel-plated percussive ticks serve as a reminder of Kuf's prowess in this style. "Put In The Work" is more dubbed out, with a ravey stab and vocal snippets setting it apart from most tool tracks, while on "Sub Aquatic Organist", Kuf goes deeper than deep. Guided by razor sharp percussion, the arrangement twists and turns its way through a series of subtle filtered builds and drops. "Transluscent Stuff" is also driven by a similarly understated feeling, with snappy hi hat and sublime chords combined for a hypnotic end result.

WaWuWe - "Beams" - (4:36) 140 BPM
Pharaoh - "Donald" - (6:38) 140 BPM
Review: Efdemin's 2008 mix CD on Curle, Carry On - Pretend We're Not In The Room showed that he was as adept and inventive behind the decks as he was in the studio. A decade later, the same holds true for the follow-up mix, Naif, but this time the boundaries are more blurred. Consisting of 29 unreleased tracks - 10 from the German producer himself and 19 from like-minded artists - the selection runs the gamut, from the hazy, abstract tones of WaWuWe's "Beams" and DIN's noisy "Glide", into hypnotic dance floor techno such as "Laveline", Efdemin's bleep-y collaboration with Konrad Springer, the glorious mid-tempo minimal roller "Watte" - recorded as Sollmann & Gurtler and then 'versioned' by Efdemin and expansive dub tracks from Pom Pom and Marco Shuttle.
