Review: Developing quite the reputation in breakbeat circles, Kwerk consistently has delivered full-bodied bass workouts since the very beginning. Naturally this is no exception; opening with a pacey, full drum intro, we're soon pushed deep into a series of halfstep twists. Coated in a well applied spoken word sample, it keeps you on your toes from start to finish. Remix-wise Sneaker & The Dryer add a little old school cheekiness while Olmec extends the space and sonics for something a little more progressive. Get to werk!
Review: Jacksonville jammers Kick It Recordings celebrate their strongest year to date with this bountiful collection of beats. Showcasing their talented roster and flare for consistency, they launch us into bass hyperspace with the extreme grit of Karetus's aptly named "Loudness War" and bring us back down to earth with Direct Input's woozily beautiful "Fire Dub". In between the well picked opener and finale you'll find Kwerk's slap bass odyssey "Switch That Bass", Farace & Trevor Rockwell's snarling slice of futuristic hip-hop "Feel That Ammunition" and a Silent H remix of "Turkish Policeman" that's so intense this review took five hours to write because we kept having to have a little lie down!
Review: Get ready for some rowdy and raucous jams here via the ever reliable Kick It Recordings. Kwerk's "Don't Stop" thumps along with a steady 4/4 kick, with lashings of wobbling bass, Ed Banger-esque backing vocal hooks and screeching synth. The stellar original is supported by a refix from VovKing, who turns in a version that turns those screeching synths up to 11, with chunky toms and some delirious break downs. Buckle up!
Review: With support from RunRiot and Far Too Loud, this latest EP from London breaks producer Kwerk should see him reach a wider audience, thanks to the tropical touches on "Bassline Punk", or the electro-synths that get smothered over the excellent "Need You". "Switch That Bass" even features a funked-up 80s boogie bassline for some throwback action, while "Light & Dark" is a fully-stocked arsenal of pure breaks joy.
