M-Bomb - (5:56) 69 BPM
E-Dancer - (6:19) 69 BPM
D-Edge - (7:01) 68 BPM Hot
Review: On the mighty Rekids label this week we've got XL Traxx, which is the new collaborative project between Serbian artist Lag (Mord) and fellow countryman (now based in Brooklyn) X-Coast of Rivera Records. It features the pounding, early '90s styled Belgian techno of "M-Bomb", jumping forward a decade later on the funky tribal techno loops of "E-Dancer" while "D-Edge" is more reminiscent of classic technosoul in the vein of Dave Angel or G-Flame & Mr G.

Kirk Degiorgio - "The Convergence" - (7:02) 131 BPM
Lag - "Mashina" - (6:05) 130 BPM Hot
Unbalance - "Blood Lust" - (6:46) 130 BPM
Review: Moscow club Propaganda celebrates its twentieth anniversary by launching a label of the same name. It's testament to the club's ability to reinvent itself that it has put together such an inspired split release as its first offering. Dimi Angelis kicks starts the EP in blistering form with the 130bpm plus thundering tribal sound of "Crossfire". It's followed by UK techno veteran Kirk Degiorgio, who keeps the mood dark and foreboding with the murky bass and rickety drums of "The Convergence". Lag, who has released on Mord, keeps the pressure up with the chant-sampling minimalism of "Machine", before Unbalance brings down the curtain with "Blood Lust", an acid-seared tunnelling workout.

All The Children Are Insane EP
Stari Grad - (6:46) 135 BPM Hot
Salajka - (7:21) 140 BPM
Liman 2 - (6:50) 134 BPM
Detelinara - (7:47) 130 BPM
Review: This is Lag's third release on Mord and it showcases again his raw, unpredictable sound. "Stari Grad" moves from thumping broken beats into dramatic stabs and breathy vocals. It makes for a jittery but individualistic sound. On "Salajka", the upcoming Serbian producer borrows from the cheeky vocal samples and lo-fi jacking aesthetic of ghetto techno to create an insistent but memorable dance floor track. "Liman 2" sees Lag revert to Mord norm; dense kicks, rickety rhythms and ghostly vocal samples all collide to create exactly the kind of track that label owner Bas Mooy will champion. But taking the obvious route is clearly not part of Lag's DNA and "Detelinara", which revolves around spacey sound-scapes and rickety percussion, proves this point.

Review: There is no doubt that Paul Birken is one of the most talented techno producers to emerge in the past decade. The US artist's disdain for linear conformity and soulless grooves means that his music is always colourful and has a human touch. This is apparent on this collaboration with Milos Martinov aka LAG for Jerome Hill's label. Both "Nemir" and "Bumer' revolve around broken beats, dense drums and incessant vocal samples. On the former, the drums and cut-up rhythm swing close to classic hip-house, while the latter's pitch-bent vocal is more ponderous and doom-laden. Birken also delivers a straighter, percussive take on "Bumer" for the techno DJs.

Review: This is Mord's most ambitious venture to date, with a box set of seven records laying out the Dutch imprint's tough techno agenda. Regulars like UVB and Radial set the tone, with the former dropping brutish kicks and jarring riffs on "Someone Calling Cut" and Radial veering into a pumping direction on "Cru".Label owner Bas Mooy moves the compilation towards a more streamlined approach with the dense, linear Klockworks-like "Owl In Daylight", but Herdersmat also shows that the label has succeeded in attracting some heavyweight international talent; Eomac's "Phisk" is a disorienting rave-flecked stepper and Sleeparchive drops the bleep-heavy bomb that is "Evicted".

Trema (original mix) - (5:13) 88 BPM
Trema (Clouds remix) - (6:22) 131 BPM
Review: Milos Martinov follows last year's Misfit debut release on Mord with this equally dark record. "Trema" is exactly the kind of dense, rolling techno groove that you'd expect to hear on Bas Mooy's label, with grainy drums and a juggernaut rhythm prevailing. Clouds' remix ramps up the pressure further, a heavy, loopy affair that could be Ben Sims on steroids, while the label owner delivers a pounding, abrasive take on "Kontrola". However, it's the original version of this track that really stands out; less direct and upfront than the other tracks, it still captures the listener's attention thanks to its furious, lurching rhythm and disturbed, high-pitched vocal samples.

Sama Doma (Forward Strategy Group remix) - (5:56) 130 BPM Hot
DHC3 (Truss remix) - (7:03) 127 BPM
Review: Bas Mooy's new label is releasing some of the more interesting hard techno, and Misfit is no exception. "Sama Doma" mixes up the rolling monotony of loop techno with eerie textures and granular, off beats. "DHC3" disappears farther down the wormhole as oppressive drums simulate the sound of metal panels being torn apart. Somewhere in the middle of this chaos there lurks a hautning, spooky vocal. Forward Strategy Group is quick to capitalise on its sombre tones; the duo's remix of 'Doma' chops up the vocal and sets it to a jittery rhtyhm. There are no such subtleties on Truss' take on "DHC3" however, with a screeching filter set to distorted kicks.

Review: The latest edition of the Singularity series sees LAG delivering a relentless hard techno release. Thankfully, it does not follow the linear, banging approach; "Applied Mechanics" revolves around a pounding industrial rhythm, but buried deep inside the arrangement is a lone vocal sample. "Proving Grounds" is also cut from a similar cloth and its clanging drums house a bleating riff and this time a meaner vocal. "The Snarl" sees LAG depart from straight 4/4s and its loose chain mail percussion, coupled with a stepping rhythm has echoes of Traversable Wormhole. Voidloss delivers two remixes of "Applied Mechanics", which are hewn from crashing metallic drums and paranoid sounds.
