There was a time that Lars Sommerfeld looked set to cause a few waves, both with his solo productions and the Two Faces label. Night Lights is, surprisingly, his first single for nearly five years, and a welcome one at that. The title track sets the tone, blending a shuffling deep house sensibility with vintage synth pop melodies and bold chords. "Britton" is even more impressive, fusing wonky chords and shimmering melodies with off-kilter rhythms inspired, we think, by a mix of British bass music and classic IDM. Closer "Smash", meanwhile, adds a dose of rave revivalism into the mix, coming on like a long lost Ame production (circa "Ojome") with extra big room riffs. Recommended.
