Review: San Francisco institution Dirtybird turn up the heat with their Summer Funk release, featuring four bangers from four different artists. Middlesborough's Lee Walker makes his debut on the label with "Rock Climber", a ferocious track with build-ups and build-downs that make you feel like you're on an unforgiving rollercoaster. Next up is another Englishman named Weiss, who has been a favorite of the label over the past year. He follows up his recent EP with "Bounce". It does exactly what it says, with his trademark mixture of jacking beats, underground boom and a bit of amusement. Lord Leopard first appeared with Eats Everything in March on one of the label's biggest EPs of the year. Here he goes solo with "As Gospel". The contagious lead line swirls in and out over a dark set of drums and bass that will certainly contribute to his rapid ascent. Bump Ugly's "Lost My Mind" rounds out the EP with animated beats and bass that dances along with quirky bleeps and blips for a funky summer ride.

Review: Well, we all know by now that Circus Recordings was set up by the legendary Yousef and named after his world-renowned club event Circus, in his hometown of Liverpool. The in-house label has been doing the business for a while now, presenting us future British heroes in the form of Lewis Boardman, Krankbrother and Ki Creighton in recent times. It's now over to their newest recruits on Selector pt 5 where young gun Bontan gets straight into it with the funky and sexy tech house of "C'est Moi" which is reminiscent of classic Greg Fenton or D'julz. Next up, Lee Walker presents "2am At Medicine Bar" which does exactly what it says on the tin; taking you to a sweaty dancefloor in the legendary Middleborough club. Adrenalised tech house aimed squarely at the last night once again from Napoli's DJ Dep on "Hot Vibe", while Glasgow's finest Illyus & Barrientos give us the hands in the air anthem "Galvanized" complete with diva vocals, cowbells and euphoric house organs galore.

Hot Jams
Lee Walker - "That Little Ditty" - (6:12) 125 BPM Hot
Pete Dorling - "Manyana" - (6:47) 125 BPM
Neil Parkes - "Peil Narkes" - (5:42) 125 BPM
Greeko - "Magma" - (7:06) 126 BPM
Review: Jamie Jones' Hot Creations label is, of course, a hotbed for some very well-known talent within the Ibizan house circles but, over the years, there has been plenty of new talent to surface from this magnetic discography. All four of these artists featuring on Hot Jams are on their way up, still fresh-minded and open to new methods of working when it comes to house and tech. Lee Walker's opening "That Little Ditty" has plenty of swing, and an electrifying cascade of harmonies sitting amid its dance-centric beats, which are followed neatly by Pete Dorling's more pumping tech-house monster "Manyama". "Peil Narkes" by Neil Parks is a little more minimalistic in tone, while Greeko's "Magma" drops a heavy-ass load of echoing bass bumps for added big room effect. Delicious and tooled-out for the DJs.

Locked In EP
Mooblerhythm - (6:15) 125 BPM
Locked In - (7:03) 123 BPM Hot
Review: Middlesbrough based rising star Lee Walker returns after the mega hit "Freak Like Me" featuring the inimitable DJ Deeon with these two fresh bombs. First up is the late night dancefloor sleaze of "Mooblerhythm", with its sick bassline, immaculate rhythm programming and pitch shifted vocal samples proclaiming the track's very title. Second offering "Locked In" is a stripped down and jacking house groove with a swinging, garage influenced rhythm and boompty bass that will appeal to fans of Dirtybird or Hot Creations. Walker is still one to watch, trust us!

Freak Like Me
Freak Like Me (DJ Deeon vs Lee Walker remix) - (5:46) 123 BPM Hot
Freak Like Me (Armand Van Helden remix) - (6:48) 123 BPM
Freak Like Me (Sonny Fodera remix) - (6:54) 123 BPM
Review: DJ Deeon's original version of Freak Like Me was a house hit first time around - that's 20 years ago! It was revived in Ibiza when Marco Carola dropped Lee Walker's remix and now it's newfound success continues with remixes by the mighty Armand Van Helden and Sonny Fodera. The former opts for stripped and tough speed garage with swirly synth breaks, whilst the latter opts for rolling drums, stark vibes and elastic bass. With the quality of all these new mixes this tune is on its way to becoming immortal!
