Review: Even for a producer as prolific as Legowelt, 2024 has been busy. A Field Guide is his second album this year, and it shines a diverse light on his canon. Naturally, there are bangers aplenty. These include the Italo-soaked melodies and vocoder vocal-led opener, "In A Blaze Of Fame" and the Japanese Telekom-style electro funk of "Come & See Your Misery". The album also delivers some surprises. There are murky techno jams like "I Got Lost In The Tool Shed" and "Ritmo Siniestro Embrujado", and Legowelt ventures to the outer limits with the mournful electro of "A Vast Comfortless Universe" and "Satyricon Pandemonium". And as the achingly beautiful "Taping A Broken Heart" shows, despite the quantity of his output, the quality of Legowelt's work remains high.

Review: With a title that captures what many people think but don't say, Legowelt's latest release inhabits a different sonic world to those who spend their lives on social media. "Alpha Juno Storm Watch" sees him indulge his electro sound, with moody melodies playing out over steely 808s. "Soundblaster Pro Tripper" is a deeper cut, as Legowelt drops woozy synths over a frazzled bass. He ventures into abstract territories for the tonal "Kawai K4 Acid Spring", but it's only a temporary divergence. The title track sees a return of sorts to the dance floor courtesy of a pulsating bass and dreamy synths. In contrast, "No One Wants To Buy My NFT" is a visceral electro track reminiscent of Gesloten Cirkel.

Review: The Hague's bussin' BAKK label is back again with a hug and kiss in Xoxo - drawing in some 11 tracks featuring numbers from friends and cohorts like Legowelt, Aurora Halal, Ocean and Dont DJ! Furthermore you have intrepid cuts from Antenna with the some heavy break beats in "Spiral" alongside some warm and classic deep house from SFV Acid in "Urbanfury". Checkout those squat rave beats from Tala Drum Corps' "Gargoyle" - plus that acid - next to compilation closer "De Papaverparade" that brings that Miami Rhodes feeling to the floor with some extra heat - those kicks bro! As a concluding release to what's be a wonderful label we don't wanna say goodbye to - Xoxo, BAKK says, is a mighty thank you to the artists that helped the label find its place in Holland's rich musical heritage.

Review: Sonic Transmutations serves as a sonic odyssey commemorating the remarkable three-decade legacy of Clone Records. Celebrating its 31st year, echoing the Dutch national telephone code, and this 33-track mega-comp unites seasoned maestros with rising trailblazers, taking in a swathe of cuts from names like Aleksi Perala, DJ Sotofett and Dopplereffekt to John Heckle and his Head Front Panel project, Privacy, Steffi, Ryan James Ford and more. Dedicated at large to the electro genre, it's taken some three decades to bring this collection to life, standing as a testament to Clone's enduring musical legacy and unwavering commitment to exploring new sounds and structures. Extra tips include cuts from Legowelt, Keith Tucker's K1 project and Convextion's legendary E.R.P alias. Mega drop.

Review: Legowelt takes a darker turn on this mini album. "From A Dusty Monopoly" sets a chilling tone, with layers of jittery tones unfolding over jagged acid bass and tough kicks. "Dimensionless Moog Sp" is less abrasive, but the same atmosphere remains thanks to the rumble of ominous synth scapes. There are sounds of Legowelt's more standard sound here too: "Whirlwindow" is the kind of wonderfully tripped out track we have come to expect and love from Danny Wolfers over the years. But it's only a temporary divergence: soon enough, the release slips back into moody territories, courtesy of the jacking "Octobulus Poly Evolver" and "A Chalice Of Midiverb", where Legowelt leads the listener into a multi-layered sound scape.

Review: Back in 2002, "Disco Rout" propelled Danny 'Legowelt' Wolfers from the Dutch West Coast underground to Ibizan big rooms thanks to its catchy nature and also due to the support of Cocoon. Now it re-appears in time for the 2019 summer season, albeit in remixed format. Tuff City Kids deliver a rolling, percussive take on the original, but let Legowelt's catchy synths shine through. For CatzN' Dogz, their version's focus is a pulsating electronic disco groove, while the latest reshape from Younger Rebinds sees the tempo increased and a slightly more ominous undercurrent added to those distinctive synths. Seventeen years on, Rout is still sure to cause mayhem in Ibiza.

Review: Legowelt aka Danny Wolfers' first release of 2019 sees him operate at his most esoteric. "A Destination Awaits" is led by swirling textures and pulsating bass tones that comes across like the sound track to a voyage to a distant world. It is unsure whether or not "I Have seen Other Worlds" is auto-biographical, but irrespective of this fact, it sees Wolfers in spaced out mode, with hypnotic melodies to the fore. "Star Simulator II" is just as trippy, resounding to a cosmic disco groove and beautifully spacey hooks, while "Deep Magic Begins Here" concludes the release with the veteran Dutch producer laying down shimmering synth passages over a warbling bass.

Review: A true staple of the Amsterdam scene, the Rush Hour affiliated Yuri Boselie aka Cinnaman takes up the reins for local institution Dekmantel's extended tenth birthday celebrations with this mastermix. It takes in the entirety of the 10 volume edition - what an effort. What may seem as an outrageous challenge - what with the compilation's genre diversity and wide rage of tempos - it's a success, for they've certainly found the right candidate. Cinnaman plays a wide range of styles anyway, and is never afraid to mix the known with the unknown - he has a reputation for his remarkable combinations and transitions. From moments of sublime ambience (Italian ambient legend Gigi Masin with the utterly evocative "Maja") to bass heavy electro bounce (courtesy of Egyptian Lover or Syracuse & Epsilove), right through to techno bangers of the cerebral variety (by Donato Dozzy & Peter Van Hoesen or local hero Talismann) and stuff by Bufiman or Tony Allen - it's a solid effort here by one of Holland's finest selectors.

Review: Legendary Dutch producer from the Hague Danny Wolfers aka Legowelt returns, with his latest offering which is inspired by myth, legend and sci-fi. The Bunker and Creme Organization staple conjures up four ancient mysticism and space odyssey themed tracks on the Omnibus Babylon EP, which 'will take you on another journey through psychedelic space!' This is best exemplified on the evocative title track which revisits the classic sound of first wave techno, the deep and lo-slung acid express of "Learning To Fly" (which showcases Wolfer's signature lo-fi sounds) or for something darker - you could try "Miskatonic Trimester" with its druggy and tunnelling vibe perfect for going deeper down the spiral.

Review: Dutch party crew/ label Dekmantel has achieved more in the past decade than most labels, and that they are able to call on such a heavyweight line-up for the third installment of their celebratory series is evidence of this fact. The release starts with the steely drums and mournful, rainy day pianos of Levon Vincent's "UK Spring Vibes" - which is a rare contribution from the US artist outside of his Novel Sound label - and continues with the fist-punching acidic sweeps of Legowelt's "Blue Austral Techno". Shifting the focus back to the other side of the Atlantic, Joey Anderson weighs in with the spooky, swirling synths and understated "Opened Gate", while Danish artist Central rounds off the EP with the jazzy abstractions of "Six Five Two".

Review: The Annual Fundraiser courtesy of Scottish imprint Craigie Knowles is back! They've recruited another bunch of heavy hitters to light up the clubs, with a cause to lighten the burden of war that's placed on the shoulders of children. Kiwi duo Chaos In The CBD throw down the Afro influenced, spiritual life music of "Natural Taboo", BRSTL's finest Shanti Celeste gives us the booming electro-funk of "Dolphin Chant" and Den Haag's legend Legowelt gives us the shimmering analogue soul of "At Delphi". Elsewhere, UK hardware maverick Neville Watson throws down the rather first wave Detroit sounding "Hazing" while the Going Good and Lovers Rock affiliated Yoshinori Hayashi serves us a wonderful, Erased Tapes style classical ambient journey titled "Pogado Tower"

Review: It's not exactly a bad way to start 2017 with a collaborative release featuring Legowelt, SFV Acid and Haron, but that's just how the BAKK collective like to operate. The imprint from The Hague is increasingly on our radar as of late, and it's thanks to a vast selection of electronic sounds that touch all corners of the underground spectrum. Synth wizard Legowelt kicks things into motion with the placid waves of "Wild At Heart", a beatless sway of sonics that manages to construct a poignant groove out of delicate melodies, and this is followed by the even more barren landscapes of SFV Acid's "Offline Wave". Finally, Haron gets all polyrhythmic with "Marimbaman", a delightful, playful groove made up of quirky melodic shots and subtle percussions.

Review: The Hague's legendary synth wizard Legowelt is back on BAKK, one of his local imprints. "Micronesia" has a sublime groove with dreamy pads and lush melodies that beg your attention. "Pannenkoekenfeest" (try saying that three times fast) is the real highlight here; a tough Detroit techno stomper with all the soul you'd expect and reminiscent of old Juan Atkins or Carl Craig. On the flip "Esoteric Party Buffet" is a dreamy, cyclical and minimal number that loops just nicely. Finally "Laundromat Of Your Mind" continues with the loveably absurd titles and gets back on the tougher tip. A peak time number that references classic Robert Hood. As much as these all seem like tributes, they're all done in the trademark Danny Wolfers way.

Review: Those familiar with the Strange Life label operated by Danny Wolfers will know it's rife with CDr material worthy of the vinyl format. Whilst our personal favourite (the bizarre Portopia by Wolfers alias Satomi Taniyama) remains looked over by labels, Berceuse Heroique were responsible for a quite sumptuous double LP edition of Smackos album The Age Of Candy Candy earlier this year. Now local Den Haag crew BAKK have got their hands on 2004 Strange Life album Dark Days for an equally classy triple LP edition. Wolfers fans not familiar with this album will immediately fall in love with Dark Days, thanks to the signature blend of goofy track titles ("Lego Resistance", "An Obnoxious Affair On Tape") and music that veers from soaring, synth vistas to grotty techno via cold, primitive electronics and more.

Institute Of The Overmind (Photonz remix) - (4:06) 126 BPM Hot
Review: In years to come, Danny Wolfers might be compared favourably to musical mavericks such as Sun Ra. Certainly, he's always been an artist ahead of his time, who makes and releases a dizzying amount of material, on a confusing array of labels, under a similarly befuddled number of aliases. Here he dons the familiar Legowelt alias and returns to Unknown To The Unknown with "Institute of the Overmind", a cheery acid wiggler that successfully combines sharp and hooky 303 lines with punishing, snare-heavy rhythms, skewed vocal samples and just the right amount of evocative, synthesizer sweetness. Check out FACT TV to see Wolfers produce the cut in real time, whilst DJ Haus looks on amazed. Label regular Photonz provide the flipside remix, emphasizing Wolfers' synthesizer hooks and acid lines on an undeniably sweet, attractive and ravey revision.

Beach Oceano - (5:44) 118 BPM
Review: Legowelt returns to Unknown To The Unknown for another bunch of wonderful excursions through obsolete musical technology under the banner Sampling Winter. Leading with the title track, this finds Danny Wolfers on a soulful and deep house vibe with a wandering and mesmerising melody, warm pads and super shuffling garage style rhythm. On the flip is "Beach Oceano" which is equally rich in soulfulness but more on the deeper techno vibe, with its sharp and hypnotising arpeggio backed by galactic melodies and glistening pads. All accentuated by analogue tape hiss in the background. This is raw!

Review: As 2013 has progressed, the output of Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S label has become increasingly challenging, delivering a fierce blend of distorted darkroom techno and gritty industrial fuzz. Morelli is nothing if not open-minded, though, and this second label compilation - a follow-up to 2012's acclaimed American Noise, similarly featuring a disc of label highlights and a CD of unreleased bits - perfectly showcases the full gamete of the imprint's analogue-heavy sound. So, alongside the intoxicating techno drones of Svengalisghost and Vereker, we get the fluid electronics and footwork-tempo rhythms of Samantha's Vacation, the humid, dubwise electronics of Terekke, the wide-eyed goodness of Daywalker & CF, and the psychedelic synth-wave-meets-techno of Xosar. Oh, and the humid tropical warmth of Beautiful Swimmers' previously unheard "The Zoo".

Review: 50 releases in under four years is no mean feat, so a round of applause to Unknown to the Unknown who surpass the landmark with a new record from Legowelt. The superbly named Immensity Of Cosmic Space arrives hot on the heels of Legowelt's fine Vaporware Tracks record for Creme and sees the Dutchman exploring the realm of rave era breakbeat techno. Of course what makes Danny Wolfers work as Legowelt so distinctive his mastery of star gazing melodies and hearing them fused with recycled drum breaks on the title track and the Amen filled "Lumeria2" is a real delight.

Review: Danny Wolfers' restless productivity knows no bounds. Not content with dropping stone cold 12" singles at a furious rate, he's delivered yet another Legowelt album to Creme Organization. Pleasingly, Crystal Cult 2080 (so called because he used a homemade crystal compressor and dusty second hand Roland JV2080- synthesizer throughout the recording process) is up to his usual high standards. There are few surprises - we should all know what we're getting by now - but plenty of reasons to be cheerful, from the fuzzy new age electronica of "The Future of Myself" and muddy Detroit futurism of "Fundamental Superstition", to the tropical pagan mysticism of "Ancient Rites Demoni Mundi" and warped acid of the feverish title track.
