Review: For its 10th release, Lehult put together a 10 track compilation featuring new material by them and their friends. The four sides showcase some familiar label sounds, as well as some unexpected surprises: Original crew members Liem, Lucky Charmz, Eddie Ness, Johan Kaseta and DJ Assam are all on board with new material. Matthias Reiling, A Trap Jr. & DJ Slyngshot, Rainboy and Epikur also join the party. For the special occasion they wanted to compile a collection aimed at the DJs that have been buying their records and supporting their outlet founded a couple of years back. LHLT10 is one of those versatile records that offers something for every situation, one that never leaves your bag. There's chilled, intricate songs for the early and late hours on the dancefloor, dark and vibey Jams for the dungeons, joyful and weird peak time stuff, and some straight up groove monsters - all on one release.
Review: We've been very impressed by the output of prolific Bristol imprint Banoffee Pies since it launched back in 2014. Predictably, this latest mini-album of fresh productions from members of the extended Banoffee bunch contains some real gems. Check, for example, the punchy two-step rhythms, dusty deep house aesthetics and leisurely jazz guitar of Christian Jay's "Palm Grease", the bumpin' jazz breaks of Hansel's "K.O Bad (Edit)", the looped vocal samples and bass-heavy shuffle of Beaner's "It Takes Two" and the electro-flecked old skool house revivalism of Ac$ closer "Clinical". Best of all, though, is Martin Hayes' "Broken Memory", a Rhodes-laden saunter through deep house flavoured instrumental hip-hop territory.
