Review: Having never heard of LJ High before, this release is a contender for release of the week. Drum-heavy and focused on what's important, Epic is an EP that'll please those who enjoy the rolling side of things. 'Epic' sets the tone, as weighty drums roll out of the intro and dive into a grating bassline that's heavy but simple, with nice wobbles of sub bass punctuating the grates. 'Dredpill' - what a tune! Again, LJ High nails the simplicity, as a heavy percussive line slowly evolves out of a synthy backdrop a diving crash morphs into more perfect sub bass action - absolute roller. 'Bubblegum' and 'Reeky' are two other incredibly strong tracks. 'Bubblegum' smacks of Subtle Element and a stripped back intro makes the drop even better, as dodging slices of bass hauntingly slide around the range, before a different approach is opted for in 'Reeky'; endemic funk folded into a pulsating sub that squirms up into dystopic squelches of bass - very, very cool.

Review: An excellent 15-track drum & bass selection here from Section's Locked Up Music label. Conscience & Taelimb's 'Latex' kicks us off in fine deep, minimal style, while SR's pounding jungle roller 'Bassline' plays us out. In between you'll find brooding neurofunk (see, for instance, Cynical Gene's 'Jokes On You'), lively liquid-leaning steppers (Section's 'We Need You'), percussion-led tear-outs (Dapz's 'Hidden Messages'), dreamy, dubby near-ambience (Marcus Tee's 'Visions Of A Life Not Mine' feat Shyrren5) and pretty much all shades in-between, making for a pleasingly varied package that's also great value for money.
