Review: Swiftly making an exceptional name for himself on the mighty Dread hall of fame, Chicago's LO! returns with another trove of absolute jams. Vibes across the spectrum; 'Finer Times' swoons with a footwork charm while 'How It Feels' is an all-out tear-up. 'Mad Ting' is a swampy, sweaty, humid brew while 'Smoking Gun' blasts us back to the 90s on an ice cold Blue Note tip. 'So Far' is the perfect closer as it brings all these strains and flavours together. Feels x infinity.
Review: Submorphics' imprint Rosebay ups the level with its first VA EP. Enigmatically titled 'Darker Flowers', there's a bluesy mood running through as we're introduced to more friends of this exciting new venture for the US-born/NL-based headliner. Azotix kicks off with the ice cold 'Hurt' before Styke goes twos with the bossman on the yearning, eerie 'Lonely Dub', more Chicago flavours can be found on the jazzy ebb and flow of Lo's 'Transition' before Scottish rising talent Imo-Lu hits us with the old hypno trick, all lilting keys and pipes. Evergreen and timeless, each and every track.
Review: You can search high but have you searched Lo!? Now's your chance... Following a string of sizzlers on Liondub International, Chicago artist LO! now makes his debut on Ray Keith's iconic Dubplate Dread with 'Talk 2 Me', a five track party where everyone is invited and the vibes range from slippery Creative Source style liquid funkery ('Take Me Higher') to the hefty swagger of the halftime finale track 'Paradise Dub'. The favourite for this particular reviewer though is 'Triggah Warn'. Featuring a classic jungle sample and some stunning drums, this one absolutely slays. All talk, all action.
Review: Bangers to behold; LO! makes his debut on Liondub International with this very impressive collection of timeless breakbeat workouts. Flexing across the whole spectrum with an eye for the subtleties and groove, vibes range from the classic hardcore rinsery of 'DR8' to the more interplanetary jazz feels of 'Hint Hint' and the urgent futuristic funk and urgency of 'Redux'. And that's not even the whole EP; this one kicks hard in all directions.
