Review: Celebrating five years of squelchy, neon-lit funk that oozes in the cracks between beats, bass music and plenty more besides, let this compilation serve as a lesson to you all in what a gem of a label Donky Pitch is. With a regular cast of characters that includes Slugabed, Lockah, The Range and Starfoxxx, all manner of low-slung boogie and chopped-up madness radiates from this overview of the Brighton-based operation, and long may it continue. Arp 101's "Slam" is especially inviting with its wonderfully rude bass squelches and slick vocoder, while Tokyo Hands drops flamboyant melodic richness left right and centre on "Letters", and that's just the tip of an exceedingly funky iceberg.

Review: When it launched back in 2011, Tuff Wax's Aberdeen Truth Series of 7" singles was an attempt to put the Granite City's blossoming bass scene on the map. Three years on, that aim has been accomplished, with the ultra-limited singles becoming collector's items. This digital compilation tells the story so far, collecting together tracks from the first four EPs. Musically, there's plenty of variety amongst the big basslines, fuzzy synths and quirky rhythms, from the lo-fi hip-hop oddness of Lookah's "Tonkl Fongrs" and post-dubstep atmospherics of Grobbie's "Grounded", to the aquatic footwork heaviness of Bones & Money's "Black Diamond" and crystalline "Footage 4 Days". Bass-heavy, eccentric and imaginative, the Aberdeen Truth Series is a fitting tribute to an often-overlooked micro-scene.

Review: It's an Aberdeen/Atlanta soundclash as Lockah and Taste Tester go toe-to-toe on this extended player. Oozing rainbow sonics with snippets of sugar-pop and flurries of dark, contemporary funk, there's heaps to chew on. "U Don't Know Me" is like a Destiny's Child remix from 2054, complete with golden harp-like arpeggios. Meanwhile on "Learn From Us" we can clearly hear Lockah's vibrancy but the message is driven home with TT's pounding dirrty south beat work. Other highlights include the wistful, dreamy psychedelia of "The End" and Slick Shoota's choppy, snappy juke remix of "U Don't Know Me".
