Knock It - (5:06) 117 BPM
Review: Nine years after volume one landed on Junodownload, Loshmi (AKA Serbian nu-disco scene stalwart Tonbe) is back with the series' 26th instalment. He begins with the thunderous, peak-time-ready assault of 'Swat', a tweak of a gnarly rock-guitar sporting OTT orchestral workout underpinned by thumping house drums, before offering up the rolling, synth-sporting pop-goes-house roll of 'Lady'. Loshmi dives into his collection of glossy '80s electrofunk/boogie jams on 'Knock It', a deliciously squelchy, colourful and soulful affair, before rounding off another rock-solid re-edit EP with the Balearic acoustic guitar solos, dreamy chords, Flamenco vocals and chunky house beats of 'Train Running'.

Mitiko - "I Like What You Doing" - (4:26) 117 BPM
Played by: Tonbe, Kongisto
Review: Serbian disco producer extraordinaire Tonbe once more teams up with his Montenegran counterpart Mitiko, as well as with himself in his Loshmi re-editor guise. Loshmi's uptempo rework of Dillinger's 'Cocaine' gets the ball rolling, after which come takes on Chaka Khan's 'I'm Every Woman', The Flirts' 'Passion' and The Salsoul Orchestra's 'Take Some Time Out For Love', plus a brace of unidentified Latin cuts. After that come three cuts from Mitiko, with 'In Your Soul' drawing heavily on Soul Children's 'Stir Up The Boogie' from 1978 and 'Morning Talkbox' bringing the Zapp-isms, before Tonbe plays us out with three tracks of his own, including the rumbustious 'Funkstar' and the Alpha Blondy-biting 'Sabari'.

Review: On the whole, it might be better if Milos Djordjevic (Tonbe/Loshmi) and Sasha Mitich (Mitiko) weren't quite so talented - that way, yours truly wouldn't have written so many glowing reviews of their releases that it's getting quite embarrassing now. I should probably just buy a set of Tonbe pillowcases and have done with it! Anyway, here's another joint outing from the two Balkan boogie merchants, which - like previous installments - includes a mix of new and previously released material, spans funk, disco, boogie and soul, and features both original (albeit often sample-based) productions and Loshmi's masterly reworkings of cuts from Barbara Streisand, Mark Morrison and more. Sterling stuff all round - again, just like previous installments.

Mitiko - "Are You Ready" - (7:19) 110 BPM
Brian SNR - "Wanna Kiss You" - (6:54) 116 BPM
Review: Serbia's Disco Fruit bring us an EP packing one track apiece from some of the biggest names on the contemporary disco scene. 'My Dream Come True' from Mexican fave Hotmood is a hazy, looping affair with a soulful male vocal, while Montenegro's Mitiko reworks Fatback classic 'Do The Bus Stop' as 'Are You Ready'. We stay in re-edit mode as label boss Tonbe, in his Loshmi guise, revists Jimmy Bo Horne's 'Is It In?' on 'Yes It Is', before finally Brian SNR closes out the EP with 'Wanna Kiss You', which sports an almost punk-funk/new wave-style vocal and some glorlously cheesy 80s sax work.

Review: Last month saw two East European disco favourites, Serbia's Tonbe AKA Loshmi and Montenegro's Mitiko, joining forces for a split EP on the former's Disco Fruit label. Now the same imprint brings us this joint collection that gathers together the best of the two producers' 2021 output, in all three of their guises. The tracks involved are a mixture of re-edits, covers and original material; more importantly, both producers are ludicrously prolific, which means they had a huge catalogue to draw from. And that in turn means there's nary a track that puts a foot wrong here - making this an essential purchase for anyone who hasn't picked these cuts up on various EPs along the way.

Review: What we have here is arguably the first ever two-man disco threeway, as Serbian disco don Tonbe (Milo? Đorđević) teams up with his Montenegran oppo Mitiko (Sasha Mitich) and himself in his Loshmi guise. As for the album that's emerged from their joint efforts, well, the clue's in the title, as the two nu-disco stalwarts dive into a big cupboard full of flamenco guitars, marimbas and mariachi trumpets, and come out clutching 10 Latin-infused dancefloor shakers built for effortless grooving in the summer sunshine. Highlights, you ask? Check the low-slung funk of 'Con Sabrosura' or the jazzy shuffle of 'Portoriko'.

Ghost Killer (dub mix) - (5:15) 116 BPM
Review: The Serbian disco magician known as Tonbe once more dons his Loshmi guise to get busy on the re-edits tip, bringing us his reinventions of four classic cuts of yore. 'Automatik' doesn't actually differ too much from The Pointer Sisters' original, except for getting a bit wonkier and druggier in the breakdown; somewhat more radical in approach are his reworkings of David Bowie's 'Let's Dance' and Ray Parker Jr's 'Ghostbusters', but for sheer brass neck the prize goes to 'Dark Night', which somehow manages to drag Deep Purple's 'Black Night' kicking and screaming onto the disco dancefloor.

Fantasy - (5:35) 116 BPM Hot
Played by: Tonbe
Review: The artist often known as Tonbe returns to regular home Disco Fruit with five more Serious Edits for those who like their disco colourful, synth-heavy and with a subtle house twist. After opening with the P-funk-influenced, cowbell-sporting swirl of 'Bomb on Me', the Serbian producer delivers two versions (vocal and dub) of 'Physic', a cheery, squelchy tweak of the Olivia Newton-John track of the same name with added house pianos. Elsewhere, 'Fantasy' is a low-slung revision of what sounds like a classic Talking Heads cut, while 'Waiting' is a slo-mo Balearic treat full of glistening guitars, tactile AOR grooves and sunset-ready synthesizer chords.

Loshmi - "Regah" - (6:56) 110 BPM
Review: Here's one of those releases that really doesn't need a lot of explaining - anyone with even a passing interest in nu-disco should be more than familiar with all four artists involved, as well as the label! Hotmood brings the 70s vibes on the string-drenched, guitar-flecked 'You Are A Star', C Da Afro fast-forwards to the 80s boogie era with the shiny-suited 'So Good For Me', while Loshmi arguably gets the most inventive, mixing up Afro, Latin and spy movie soundtrack vibes on 'Regah'. It's the lazy, laidback funk/jazz-funk of Mitiko's 'Back To Dance', though, that takes the gold.

Review: Turns out Milos Djordjevic, AKA Serbian re-edit king Loshmi, has something of an Eddy Grant fixation. He must have, because two of the Guyanese-British reggae star's tracks get a Loshmi makeover here - namely 'Rampage' and 'Boys In The Street'. Elsewhere, 'No Way' is another reggae edit, 'Across The Floor' and 'In The Club' draw on unidentified boogie sources, Jimmy Bo Horne's 'Is It In' from 1980 gets reworked as 'Yes It Is', Salsoul Orchestra get the treatment on 'Right Size' and - perhaps tread carefully with this one! - 'Neon Rider' revisits the theme to a certain 80s TV series starring The Hoff...

Review: Serbia's Disco Fruit label offer digital buyers another high-VFM collection of tracks that were previously only available on wax, with the album's 31 cuts coming from just six artists including scene faves Tonbe and Loshmi and label regular Evil Smarty. Between them, they run the gamut from scorching, bottom-heavy funk (Evil Smarty's 'The Get Down', Dave Allison's 'Ain't Nuthin To It', Loshmi's 'Drugstore') to deep n' soulful house (Tonbe's 'Broken Heart'), via Gradient Logic's glacial boogie nouveau and jazzier cuts like Dave Allison's 'Trade Off' and Tonbe's 'Something Jazzy'. It's more one for the jazzbos and funkateers than outright disco dollies, admittedly, but on the whole that's probably a good thing...

Label boss Tonbe supplies four of 'em, and with most of the rest coming from equally familiar names such as Dr Packer, Hotmood, Mitiko and Loshmi, you know the bar's set high! Stylistically, the album ranges from authentic-sounding low-slung funkers like Hotmood's 'Let's Ride' and Tonbe's 'Gem Picker' to the breezy uptempo soul of 84Bit's 'Mamma Jamm' and the boogie nouveau of Dr Packer & Loshmi's 'In Case Of Emergency', while special shout-outs go to Evil Smarty, who almost out-Fatbacks Fatback, and to Mitiko's excellent reworking of the mighty Janet.

Mitiko - "What Have You Done For Me" - (6:05) 115 BPM
Review: Here we have four more sure-fire bullets for your disco machine gun, coming courtesy of Serbia's Disco Fruit label. Mexico's Hotmood is up first with the fairly self-explanatory 'I Love To Boogie', which is followed by 'The Groove To Make You Dance', a reworking of T-Connection's 1977 TK Disco classic 'Groove To Get Down' by Guildford's own re-edit don Evil Smarty. Montenegran producer Sasha Mitich, AKA Mitiko, then takes liberties with Janet Jackson (and gets away with it) on 'What Have You Done For Me', before label co-owner Loshmi plays us out with laidback, headnodding instrumental 'Soul Food'

Review: Fresh from the market, Disco Fruit offers up a suitably large pallet of juicy re-edits, tasty revisions and sun-ripened reworks. As you'd expect, there's plenty to get your teeth into from start to finish. Our highlights include the fuzzy 21st century disco-funk of Brian SNR's "Down For Some Loving", the bouncy, synth-bass-propelled funkiness of C Da Afro's "Music Is Love", the sleazy sweatiness of Frank Virgilio's flash-fried "Thick As A Brick (The ReThink)", the throbbing goodness of Loshmi's Italo-disco/80s rock revision "Palm Springs", the mid-tempo disco bliss of Mitiko's "It's Over, It's Over" and the disco-house bump of Tonbe's "Make It Last Forever".

Review: Astonishingly, Loshmi's long-running "Serious Edits" series is now 15 volumes deep. We can happily confirm that he's not run out of steam yet with the seven-track selection featuring some suitably playable, floor-friendly revisions that are well worth your hard-earned cash. Our highlights include the gently housed-up 80s disco goodness of "Delightful", the heavy disco-funk/proto-rap fusion of "Funky Animals" - all eccentric mic flow, mazy organ lines and beefed-up disco grooves - and the languid, glassy-eyed loveliness of head-nodding warm up gem "Soul Food". There's naturally plenty to set the pulse elsewhere across the EP, too, so give all of the clips a listen if you have time.

Review: Serbia's Disco Fruit bring us a split EP from two label regulars: Montenegro's Sasha Mitich, better known as Mitiko, and Milos Djordjsevic, better known as prolific re-editor (his 'Serious Edits' compilation series is now up to Vol 11) Loshmi. Mitiko brings us two retro funkers - 'My Shoes', with its infectious wukka-wukking guitar riff, and 'Too Hot To Handle', which marries a sung/rapped male vocal to an 80s sounding synth-woodwind hook. Loshmi, meanwhile, takes us into more Latin-leaning funk territory with 'Portoriko' and 'Pretty Chiquita'. All four are built with the simple aim of moving booties on dancefloors, and all four will do that for sure.

Review: Serbia's Milos Djordjevic, AKA Loshmi, brings us Vol 14 in his long-running re-edit series, with five tracks covering a range of musical ground. Opening instrumental 'Juice & Boogie' draws on brass-tastic 70s funk (exact source unknown, but there's a strong Blaxploitation soundtrack vibe), while 'El Grande Funk' plunders what would appear to be some heavy Indian sitar funk of the period. 'Very Tough' reworks Angela Bofill's 'Too Tough' from 1983 (ever so slightly!) while another, unknown 80s boogie cut inspires 'Sensual Love'. The standout, though, is 'Palm Springs', a shiny nu-disco jam that makes devastating use of the guitars from Blondie's 'Call Me'.

Review: Eight re-edits here that, somewhat unusually, draw largely on classic hip-hop rather than the standard old school funk, disco and boogie for inspiration - opener 'Ding Dong', for example, lifts a chunk of vocal from Sequence's Sugarhill classic 'Funk You Up' - though musically we're firmly in disco/house territory. Standouts include 'Burn The Floor' with its infectious P-funk synths and George Clinton-via-Death Row vocal chant, the seriously phat 'n' squelchy 'Real G', and 'In Your Face', which comes on like Ice-T having a go at that oompah-loompah, Balkan-style tech-house that was so popular around 2010 or so.

Review: Serbia's Disco Fruit Records present a 15-track collection packed with disco, nu-disco and disco-house goodness. It's very much an in-house affair - label boss Tonbe contributes two tracksm while Disco Fruit regular Mitiko is behind a further six - which makes the general standard of what's on offer even more impressive. Highlights include Mitiko's boogie-ish 'Do You Really Want My Love?', Loshmi's gloriously camp, Euro-inspired 'Easy Night Drive', Hotmood's lazy, low-slung 'Let's Ride' and Tonbe's phat-assed jazz-funker 'That Sample', while special mention should be made of Kellini's 'No Balance' which, to older ears, is Animotion's 'Obsession' in disguise.

Review: Disco Fruit's latest two-track missive sees label regular Loshmi join forces with Glitterbox regular and disco remixer to the stars Dr Packer. First up is "A Case of Emergency", which sounds like a tidied up, extra-fresh revision of a sparkling '80s soul/electrofunk jam full of addictive synth bass, sing-along chorus vocals, chiming melodies and twinkling pianos. Equally as impressive is accompanying cut-job "House In Downtown", another '80s soul style revision blessed with funk-fuelled boogie bass guitar, spacey synthesizer flourishes, life-affirming brass blasts and a vaguely familiar lead vocal that will have dancers singing along in unison. Proper party music for those who like their dancefloor grooves to come accompanied by shoulder pads, Jheri curls and a side order of cherry wine.

Review: We haven't had an instalment of the Serious Edits series since last November, so the arrival of volume 11 has us doing back flips with joy. AS expected Disco Fruit boss Tonbe has once again assumed his Loshmi moniker for editing duties resulting in a typically more light-hearted vibe. Highlights of the eight party tunes here include the perky "Find Another Race" which takes a leaf from the Prodigy by updating an early reggae classic, the electro funk 80s anthem "All About You" and the skippy jazz/garage grooves of "Closer".

Review: Serbian edit king Tonbe digs deep into the vaults of his prolific Disco Fruit stable, returning with a 10-track selection of club-ready highlights. There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing, from the swirling strings and sumptuous, Barry White style grooves of Mitiko's "As You Grow Up" and the acid-laden wiggle of Evil Smarty's fantastic revision of The Osmonds "I,I.I" (here titled "Feel The Fire"), to the pumping drums, low-slung bass and flash-fried, Hendrix-style guitars of Loshmi's "Drugstore". Tonbe himself drops a bouncy chunk of disco-house pressure in the shape of "Don't Mess With Us" (complete with hip-house style sampled vocals), while C Da Afro impresses with the cheeky synths and quirky boogie backing of "One Step".

Review: It's always a thrill when we hear that disco/house dude Tonbe is donning the spandex and cape of his Losmi guise for another outing. Here he's steering the Serious Edits ship for the tenth time, delivering six new jams for our listening pleasure. Highlights include the pounding disco-rock-flute workout "Drugstore", the slammin' toughened-up Gil Scott Heron rework "Revolution" and the brassy boogie sass of the swaggering "Night Life". Quality scalpel jobs as always.

Review: In the hustle and bustle of the disco edit scene, the Disco Fruit crew are committed to keeping the spirit of classic '70s sounds alive. The modern elements are pushed to the back as JB Dizzy gets raunchy with the guitar licks, horn sections and some divine vocoder action on "Midnight Power". Mike Woods meanwhile knows just how to treat "Do You Like The Way That It Feels?" by Tempest Trio, keeping the soul of the original party burner alive while beefing up the drums just a touch. Across this 10-track collection the quality remains unflappable in its channeling of true disco principles.
