Review: Along with pal Black Zone Myth Chant, Low Jack has been responsible for some of the most intense, interesting and downright odd electronic music of recent times. Given this impressive record, it's unsurprising that Modern Love has snapped up Lighthouse Stories, his third full-length. Interestingly, it sees him move away from the dystopian, post-apocalyptic techno sound he's become famous for, instead delivering a set that mirrors the dark-and-light, slow-and-fast hybrid frequently showcased on Black Zone Myth Chant releases. Like that project, the music on Lighthouse Stories is damn near impossible to pigeonhole, sitting somewhere between uncomfortable intensity and exotic beauty.

Review: Paris imprint In Paradisum describe Sewing Machine, the second full-length from sometime L.I.E.S man Low Jack, as "brutal, stupid and wicked". It's certainly brutal, fusing distorted techno rhythms and bleak industrial textures with droning electronics and blasts of clandestine white noise. Few people do this kind of post apocalyptic, balls-out intensity better than Low Jack, and there's a certain amount of funk within the titanium-clad rhythms and concrete-laden modular synths. Of course, it's hardly cheery, but then Low Jack doesn't do "fun" in the traditional sense. Sewing Machine is full of thrills for those of an industrial persuasion, though.

Review: Rough and busy beats dominate the Free Pyjamas EP, a new release from rising Parisian producer Low Jack who made quite the impression with his debut EP, Slow Dance on Get The Curse. Although distinctly techno, both the title track and "LJ's Jam" feature vocals, even if they are disorientated and short lived. Thwacking wood block percussion and militaristic snare rolls add a frenetic pace to "Free Pyjamas", seemingly cut from a similar cloth as Gerry Read's Yeah Come Dance EP. The bleepy opening passage of "LJ's Jams" allows a bar of space between each kick before dropping into a rugged four-four groove littered with scuttling percussion and overdriven hi-hats. "The White Towel" remains on the EPs crunchy tip, but Low Jack employs some lighter chords and other musicality to the mix, allowing for a less visceral third track to run out the EP.

Review: We've no idea who Low Jack is, but he (or she) seems to know what they're doing. This debut EP variously touches on clanking grooves, analogue fetishism and the sort of sparse deep house that recalls sweaty Chicagoan basements and grubby house parties. The title track drips with voodoo, offering a hardware obsessive's take on 808 tribal. The thrillingly midtempo "Look At My Pyramid", meanwhile, sounds like a face-off between Maxmillion Dunbar and Disco Nihilist. "The Manifest" is strangely druggy, while Geelong turns the title track into a balls-out 125 BPM techno thruster. Impressive stuff.
