Review: Planet Rhythm has been one of Luis Ruiz' main platforms since he appeared almost ten years ago. This latest outing for the label marks something of a change - "KV 55" is an acid-drenched jacking affair - but also offers much familiarity for fans of his sleek techno. The title track is typical of the Argentinean's sound as high-pitched blips unfold over lithe rhythms. On "Shi Im Ti" he mines a deeper approach with subtle vocal riffs and psychedelic organs to the fore while the skipping drums and insistent chord stabs of "Dominant Roles" closes out this classy measured release in style.

Review: The Ancients is one of the best examples of a new producer embracing abstract sounds. Both "Big Bang Origins" and "Children Of The Gods" start off as eerie, textured soundscapes, but in the case of the former, it lapses into distorted Regis-style techno beats, while the latter veers into classic "X-102/3"-era Mills grooves, with snares crashing and flailing as the spooky textures persist. A similar Mills-inspired approach is applied on "Giants Upon The Earth", but Ruiz also knows how to make more mellow grooves as the brittle claps and yelping melodies of "Cromagnon Modified For Anunnakis" and the dreamy early 90s UK techno styled "Alpha" so ably demonstrate.

Review: If you're looking for evidence that hard techno is still alive and well, you'd be well-advised to check 'New World Order'. Tuomas Rantanen's 'Echo Tangents' is the most intense contribution, its distorted break beats and droning synths bludgeoning the listener into submission, but it's a close battle as Oliver Kuchera's 'Keychain' is an insane panel-beating track and the evil analogue yelps and droning synths of Pablo Bosio's 'Baalzephon' are reminiscent of the highlights of James Ruskin's and Surgeon's late 90s work. The highlight however is Luis Ruiz' 'Greenskin'; less pacey than the other contributions, its eerie chords and intense filtering and driving percussion will endear it to fans of Technasia and Jerome Sydenham.
